Resident News & Information
From the desk of Gary Hulion We are off to another runaway year. As most of you are aware, there were two new members elected to the Board of Directors in January, Robert (Bob) Rivers and Dan Gershkowitz. Ron Micuch was also reelected to the Board. The Board is made up of fellow residents who volunteer their time to ensure the smooth operation of the community through the management team. These members spend an average of 10 to 15 hours a week making sure that you are represented by taking calls, preparing and approving an operation budget and assisting residents with needs and concerns. It is your community and you can help the board by becoming more involved. Read your governing documents and understand what your responsibilities are, attend the monthly open Board meetings, volunteer for committees who aid the board in its duties and engage other residents.
R Read the documents A Attend the meetings V Volunteer for committees E Engage other residents And finally, the best way you can help the Board is to not spread rumors or information that has not been verified. The best way to ensure you are getting the most accurate information is to ask a Board member or management staff.

How Do Our Garden’s Grow? By Sarah Galshack The Cresswind Garden Committee is off and growing in 2019. There are lots of activities that everyone in the community can become involved in. In February, Lance Haney, a Monarch Butterfly specialist, gave a great presentation on how we can all participate in helping to boost the Monarch’s declining numbers. Due to loss of habitat (just think how much habitat was needed by Cresswind to create our beautiful community ), the Monarchs could use our help. The Community Garden will be planting pollinator-attracting flowers, including Milkweeds, the only plant that is useful to Monarchs (yes, they are a bit picky). There are four main types of Milkweed, Common, Butterfly weed, Swamp Milkweed, and the Monarchs favorite, Tropical Milkweed. Local nurseries and plant sales are good sources for these plants. Make sure they are Pesticide Free. If every yard in Cresswind planted some milkweed, think of the enjoyment we would get from watching and helping the beautiful Monarchs thrive. Need more information? Join Friends of the Garden (free), join our Facebook page at Cresswind at LL Community Garden, contact the Garden Committee or check out www.monarchbutterflygarden.net.
Architectural Review Committee (ARC)… By Landy Johnson When do you need to request approval from the Architectural Review Committee (ARC)? Any non-living object added to the exterior of your home falls under the ARC’s purview. This includes flower pots, furniture, wind chimes, swings, arbors, lighting, statues, etc., and hardscaping such as retaining walls and paths. The exterior of your home includes your front, back and side yards, and your deck. If you purchased a new home, a rule of thumb is, “If it is not alive, and it wasn’t there when you closed on your home, you should request approval from the ARC before you add it.” If you are updating your yard with a project involving walls, benches, paths, lighting, and landscaping, you will need to file applications with BOTH the ARC and the Landscape Committee. You can use the same drawing for both applications; the key is that different people review different parts of the project. Please do not hesitate to ask the ARC for help with your application. The ARC guidelines and request forms are available on the Cresswind website. Review the guidelines before you plan changes or additions to your yard, so that you know what is allowed. For example, did you know that water fountains and bird baths are not allowed in the front yard? If you have questions, reach out to a committee member. Thanks to ARC member Deborah Seymour for the information above. Now, from the Chair, a quick clarification to last issue’s article about painting your house. It is still the case that the color scheme you choose must be different from that of the two houses to the right and left of your house, and the one directly across the street. If it is difficult to tell, an ARC members can take our paint chip wheel to any house in question and do a quick comparison. Page 6 | The Waterfall | March/April
Rules and Regulations Committee By Fred Irvin The Rules and Regulations Committee has received requests from several stakeholders for changes to the latest version. We will be drafting those changes and forwarding them to the Board of Directors for approval. Once approved, they will be posted to the website. The Committee has two vacancies to be filled and invite any residents interested in working on this committee to contact Fred Irvin at flirvin@ gmail.com.
Marina Committee Update By Randy Garcia
Our Cresswind Marina Committee (CMC) has kicked off activities for 2019. 2019 committee members include: Randy Garcia Chairman Warren Lange Vice Chairman Dave Pech Secretary Vickie Gassman Member at Large Reg Girdharry Member at Large The mission of the Marina Committee is to effectively and efficiently oversee the management of the Cresswind Marina Exclusive Common Area. We have so far this year worked with Board and Management to add “non-skid” strips to all Dock ramps. We have supported and will continue to work with our Board as they address those transition issues and questions surrounding the marina area. It is 1st quarter and the water level is up around summer full pool. Look around and check out the growing number of boats in our marina and the growing number of boat owners on the docks around you. Meet and greet your new Cresswind Marina neighbors. Should you have any questions or just to simply discuss, please feel free to contact any of CMC members shown above.

Welcome Committee News By Denise Skeels Our Cresswind Welcome Committee of twelve members has been hard at work contacting new residents. We held Newcomer’s Orientations in the Ballroom in November 2018 and February 2019 for those new residents closing on houses from April through December 2018. Approximately 85 residents attended these two presentations by MTScapes, First Service, and our HOA. They were also able to pick up information about Gainesville and surrounding Hall county. The next New Resident Orientation will be in May, 2019. If you do not hear from a Welcome Committee Member within four weeks of closing, please contact me at skeelsdenise@gmail.com. We do not want to miss any new residents. Welcome to Cresswind!
Find the contact person for the Phase you live in and get in touch with them. Tell them what you need and your contact person will take it from there. Someone from the CARE Committee will respond once we locate what you need.
News from the Board of Directors 1. Recent Board elections resulted in two newly elected members and one returning Board member. Welcome to Dan Gershkowitz and Bob Rivers and welcome back Ron Micuch. 2. A big THANK YOU to the two departing members, Jim Albers and Frank Boduch, for their significant contributions to our community. 3. The annual meeting was held at the Gainesville Civic Center on January 17, 2019. At the conclusion of the meeting, a Question and Answer period was held. A video of the meeting, along with the Q & A session, can be viewed on the Cresswind website. 4. Mr. Tony Adams, VP Kolter Homes and the developer representative, was introduced to the community. He is succeeding Mr. Bob Rademacher. We wish to extend our appreciation to Mr. Rademacher for his dedication toward making Cresswind the number #1 active adult community in Georgia. 5. Please review the material from the annual meeting, especially the financial update and reserve analysis by Deb Ellis and Sid Jacobs. 6. The BOD would like to give special recognition to Mark LaClaire for the award-winning Lifestyle program in 2018 and the promise of an even better 2019. 7. The transition from a developer-led to a community-led HOA continues to make progress. We expect everything to be finalized later this year. 8. We are very pleased that so many of our members are enjoying the improvements that were made in 2018, especially the renovations in the basement and the fitness area. There is more planned for 2019. 9. Finally, we wish to extend our appreciation to all residents who have volunteered across a wide range of activities that benefit all of us and make living here a wonderful experience. The Library’s Story By Eleanor Whalen
Education Committee
The Levitt Design Center once located on Scarlet Oak Drive was remodeled by Kolter under the leadership of Bob Rademacher, creating the “Interim Clubhouse” for the Cresswind residents. The renovated building was spacious and all the empty display shelves seemed like the perfect place to start a library. Residents were asked to donate to the new project and soon those empty shelves were full of paperback and hardback books. Teddi Hecht, a retired Librarian, saw the need for some organization; she and a group of women got together and sorted through all the donated books, putting them in alphabetical order by author.
The Cresswind Citizen’s Academy is in full swing with 45 Cresswind residents attending each week until the end of March. In each session, we learn more about how our city operates and what plans are being considered for growth and transportation improvements.
The new Club (our current clubhouse) was nearing completion when Paul Pormen formed the “Friends of the Library” group. This group of residents would take turns shelving donations and returned books. The original group of twelve volunteers has now grown to more than double that amount. The Club was finally completed in May of 2012 and time to move the library! Books were packed into bins attempting to keep them in some sort of order. Trucks and hand carts transported everything to the lower level of the Club. The original library collection partly filled the shelves in the center area of the new library. Donations of books kept flowing in, the library expanded, up, down and sideways. A non-fiction section was created and Audio Books plus DVDs were added. The Cresswind Library in the Club is heavily used with monthly volunteers always trying to keep up with the donations and returns that appear daily on the Library Cart. The library accepts books and paperbacks in good condition with a copyright date of 2010 or newer. Books that do not meet the criteria are donated to a local bookstore and paperbacks make their way to the hospital for patients and visitors to enjoy. Visit your library and take a book home to enjoy!

Keeping Cresswind Beautiful
By: Tom Randall
Almost every day of the week you can rest assured there is an MTScapes crew hard at work somewhere in Cresswind LL. Often working from dawn to dusk, these dedicated men and women cut acres of grass, edge miles of sidewalks, and manage countless shrubs and trees throughout the community. Dressed in bright MTS shirts, they arrive in clean, well maintained trucks ready to work long hours. Be it 90 degree plus temperatures in the summer, or bitter cold wind and freezing rain in the winter, there is a MTScapes crew somewhere in Cresswind working hard to continually beautify the community. Friendly and courteous, these crew members can be seen smiling and perhaps even laughing as they work tirelessly together throughout the day. As you see them in your yard or on the roadway during your morning walk, please feel free to greet them with a wave and hello. Inevitably, you will receive back an enthusiastic wave and big smile. As we enter 2019, Cresswind LL is beginning to transition from a world of new home building and development to a more sustained community of lasting landscape beauty. Aligning homeowner and association interests, MTScapes is working hard to continually improve techniques and strategies to maintain Cresswind LL’s high standard of beautiful landscapes within budget guidelines and strong financial stewardship. MTScapes also provides a full line of landscape services to Cresswind homeowners at competitive prices. Custom landscape design, hardscapes, water features, irrigation upgrades, night lighting, and drainage improvement. There are many additional maintenance services available for your yard and garden as well. Custom pruning, additional shrub care, mulch change out, and just about any other landscape service can be provided. Complete an MTS Maintenance Request via the Cresswind LL online homeowner portal to request an estimate. If you have any questions, please call MTScapes at (678) 771-8571.

Travel Club News
By Mary Hensien
The Cresswind Community Travel Club welcomes you! We have a variety of experiences and opportunities in which you can enjoy traveling with your neighbors. What better way is there to make lifelong friends and memories? The Community Travel Club’s tour of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in February was magnificent. We had front row seats in our own Cresswind Clubhouse on Super Bowl night and just one week later we navigated the same field, just as Tom Brady did! (ok- a loose definition) Now, that is living the Cresswind life! Over 100 of our Travel Club members enjoyed this experience early one February morning as we boarded busses heading into Atlanta. We enjoyed lunch at Molly’s B’s, a famous restaurant in the stadium, then put our walking shoes into action touring the nooks and crannies of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. What a gorgeous Atlanta landmark! It is no secret that our Community Travel Club has the best Fox Theater trip deals ever offered. You do not have to move to New York City to experience these wonderful Tony awardwinning Broadway Plays. Your Community Travel Club offers these experiences right here. The February 27th Les Miserable event was such a treat! The round-trip charter bus transportation and dinner at the famous Mary Mac’s restaurant, featuring the “Grand Taste of the South” before the play, made it such a
relaxed and memorable night. This was an event we will never forget. We had such a grand time. GAINESVILLE- This is OUR TOWN! So many of our fellow residents have gathered here, from far and near, for various reasons. Many of us were politicians, leaders, executives, spokespersons, and even mayors in the towns in which we have come from before moving to Cresswind. In March, our Travel Club provided an opportunity for us to get to know more about our wonderful City of GAINESVILLE. We had an enlightening day together learning about the impact that our city has made upon Georgia and upon the world. Also, now we have an arsenal of places to take our children, grandchildren, and friends when they come to visit! One of the most sought after trips ever offered by our Community Travel Club will be in April to the Atlanta History Center, The Swan House, and to view The Cyclorama - all in the same day. (And that includes lunch!) Due to the hard work of the trip’s coordinator, her educational background in history and education, and her ability to coordinate sites, we are able to offer this unusual experience at an amazing low price. No wonder it sold out in 15 minutes! Community Travel Club Members know a deal when they see one. Join us. You are always welcome. Check us out on our website - You will be glad you did!

Looking for a Book Club to Join? It is now easier to participate in a Cresswind book club. Cresswind’s newly designed website comes with a section to locate and contact a book club of your choice. Under the heading Clubs, you will find a link to “Book Clubs.” This is a chart showing the following: Leader’s Name, (number of ) Members, Openings, Group Name, When/Where to Meet, Leader’s phone number and Leader’s email. Just find a club with openings and call that Leader to join. Of course, feel free to start your own club, especially if you cannot find an opening for a club that meets your date and time requirements. Should you start a club, contact Chuck Wharton to provide your information and he will update the chart. Also please note that some book clubs have provided lists of the books they have read. Go to our Library, locate the white 3-ring binder on the coffee table, and peruse the lists for ideas of books to read.
International Missions Club By: Tom Flaim Cresswind is blessed with many great clubs to help a variety of worthy, local charities and people in need. The International Missions Club was formed to provide an outlet for those of us that also desire to help those in need outside our local community and country. Our mission is threefold: 1. Learn… from speakers representing different mission types and global organizations, specifically on their activities, their lives, and the realities of where and how they serve. International ministry has extremely unique and varied challenges, and the goal will be to provide a fuller understanding of the many facets of international ministry. 2. Engage… in regular service projects that everyone can participate in for featured missions to enhance the lives of children and women in dire need. In addition, mission excursions are planned for Cresswind active adults at all-inclusive hotels with day trips and short excursions into the mission field. Experience international ministry through fun and safe trips abroad! 3. Donate… if you feel so led. By learning about mission activities and needs, a mechanism is provided to donate to vetted organizations in a meaningful way. If you want to help but are wary of sending your savings to organizations working internationally, come and get a deeper understanding of how you can share your compassion and impact the world! Bible Study Club
By Dave Dittmeier
The Bible Study Clubs continued on several fronts. The Women’s Bible Study concluded a study of the book of 2 Peter. The Men did an in-depth study of the Book of Luke and a new evening Men’s Bible Study was started to accommodate those Cresswind men who are still working or who cannot otherwise make the Friday morning study. Several Couples Bible Studies continue to meet in private homes in the community. The Way did a study on Mary, the Mother of Jesus. All of these various groups are open to all residents who are interested in studying the Bible and all welcome new participants. Plus, we have no dues! The Bible Study Club continued its monthly nondenominational service with local pastors as guest speakers. In January, we hosted the Pastor from Trinity Baptist Church and February was the Pastor from Trinity Presbyterian Church. The non-denominational services are held the first Sunday of the month. All residents are welcome to attend.

“Sometimes, being with your friends and golfing is all the therapy you need.”
Save The Date! We are very pleased to welcome a local author to an Author Event as described below. The Cresswind Book Clubs have a web page that provides details about the many clubs here. See the Daily Update for the website address. Cresswind Presents Western Historian and Environmental Award Winner Mark Warren On Tuesday April 9, from 1- 3pm, Mark will discuss his 63 year journey to learn the truth about America’s most famous peace officer and how that lifetime of research culminated into a trilogy entitled Wyatt Earp, An American Odyssey. Then, join us as we explore nature through the eyes of the Cherokee. Owner of Medicine Bow Wildness School, and author of Two Winters in a Tipi, Mark also presents his new books, Secrets of the Forest, a 4 volume series for all who want to learn a life closer to the natural world. Adobe Moon, Born to the Badge, and Two Winters in a Tipi are available through all major booksellers. For Secrets of the Forest, check out Mark’s website at www.secretsoftheforestbook.com Like us on Facebook!
If you play golf, have ever played golf or want to learn to play golf, the Ladies Golf Club is for you! We play 9 holes every Thursday, April to October at the Chattahoochee Golf Club. Tee times for the most part will start at 10:00 am. The cost is $22.00 for 9 holes which includes the cart. We welcome all levels of golfers. We play noncompetitive golf...our goal is to have fun and make new friends. Check out the Cresswind activities calendar this month for the date of our Kick Off meeting. Please join us to learn more about our Club and the fun activities we have planned for this golfing season. Becky Tomsu will update us on plans for our monthly Nine and Dine events. Bowling is Rolling On! Our twenty-eight week bowling season is now in its second half. The first half of the season was won by a team named “Pin Pals”. Jim Cook is their captain and his team includes his wife Pat, Fred Irvin, and Joe Dennis. When our season concludes on April 10th, the second half season winning team will have a bowl-off with Jim’s team the following week for the overall championship and a nice chunk of the season’s prize money. While this bowl-off match is taking place, the remainder of the regular bowlers and subs will have a contest called 9-Pin No Tap should they decide to pay the $5 entry fee. This is an individual contest, not a team event. If a bowler knocks down 9 pins, it counts the same as a strike and the next bowler is then up for their chance. If they knock down fewer than 9 pins, they must then try to get a spare with their second ball. Of course, a strike also counts as a strike! Each bowler will bowl three games and the winners will be the men and women with the highest total scores. If the pot of money is large enough, we hope to divide it among the top 5 men and top 5 women for a payout at our banquet the following week.

By Phil Vinyard This new event will hopefully bring more people to the alley while the top 2 teams have their bowl-off. We will schedule the 9-Pin No Tap to start a little before the bowl-off teams begin so that we can finish and enjoy watching the bowl-off conclusion and congratulate the winning team. The Stars and Strikes Bowling Alley in Buford will set up the two teams having the bowl-off in the middle lanes with the rest of us participating in the 9-Pin No Tap on either side of their lanes. Stars and Strikes is not charging us to bowl for that day so all of the $5 entry fee for the 9-Pin No Tap will go for this event’s prize money. On April 24th, we will have our end of season banquet in the Clubhouse Ballroom. Everyone brings a dish to share and all bowlers, substitutes, and spouses are welcome to attend. This is a really fun time when our estimated $6000 in prize money is passed out to both individuals and teams. If you are not in the Cresswind Bowling Club, just think of all the fun you are missing and plan to join in the fun next season!

Adventures in Dining
Every meal is an adventure!
By: Karen Silverthorn What a delicious start to 2019! Five houses with a total of 42 members enjoyed a multi-course Thai menu in early February. Everyone raved over the Thot Man Khao Phot (sweet corn patties) and the Tom Kah Kai Soup. Participants were pleasantly surprised with all the tasty, but not spicy Thai dishes. Our March dinner celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with homage to Ireland’s unique heritage. Diners will enjoy Mini Reuben’s with Cheddar Guinness Dip; Apple Dressed Pears with Cashel Blue Toasties; Irish Stew with Guinness Irish Colcannon and Irish coffee of course! Our mission is a simple one - to enjoy delicious meals while meeting new neighbors around an elegant dinner table. Most of our menus are themed to highlight regional menus or international countries.
host home. For each dinner, we average 6 - 8 houses each using the same recipes and making the same courses. Food and beverage costs (average $45 - $65 per pair/couple) are shared equally among participants at each house.
All recipes are provided, courses assigned between those attending and one person is assigned for each course to help and answer questions of others making the same dishes at the other participating houses.
Annual membership in the Cooking Club is required. Guidelines for Adventures in Dining are on the Cooking Club’s website. Anyone can join at any time during the year. If you are interested in joining, email directly the coordinator (Karen Silverthorn, silk3349@charter.net) to be added to the email list.

Cresswind Investment Club: Knowledge, Profit, & Fun
Genealogy Club By Dave Dittmeier
By Peter Bertasi The Investment Club is a group interested in learning about and investing in the stock market. We meet monthly for review and discussion of stocks that the club owns, potential purchases, and possible sales. Members of the club can make presentations on their favorite stock, and the club organizes presentations from outside experts for club meetings as well as for the Cresswind Community. Recent topics ranged from tax issues, to Medicare, to free analysis sites on the internet, and onto macro-economic outlook. Our most recent community event was on February 21st and was well attended with a free box lunch. Also, following Cresswind traditions, we include two parties a year as well! Anyone interested is welcome to visit our club which meets the first business Monday of each month (excluding holidays) at 2:45 in the Crow’s Nest. If you would like to visit with us please contact Peter Bertasi at nascarn986a@gmail.com or Janet Nelson at jnotesto87@gmail.com. We look forward to meeting you and listening to your ideas on investing!
In 2019, the Genealogy Club began its 4th year. It commenced with an outstanding presentation including a brief recap of 2018, a discussion of ten “Did You Know” topics, the different types of naturalization records, the power of Facebook Photo Restoration and a discussion of the research assignment > “The Kegel Klub”. For our February meeting, we hosted a guest speaker. One of our members spoke on Preserving Old Photographs. In March, we are having a representative from the local Family History Center talk about the proper use of FamilySearch.org The Genealogy Club is open to all residents regardless of their level of research and expertise. We volunteer to help each other.

That’s why contributing to your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) is so important. Fortunately, you still have time to maximize your 2015 IRA contribution before the April 15 deadline. By contributing now, your retirement savings can have more opportunity to grow. This past two months we have done a fun Valentines Celtic Knot drawing and mad a wheel of patterns to help choose patterns for future projects. We are always happy to have new people join us. This is a fun and easy art form that can help reduce stress. We had a new addition to Make & Take in February. Jeanne Melsen did a workshop introducing Mixed Media Collage. It was a great group and everyone left with a beautiful inspirational message in Mixed Media. She is planning a series of classes introducing various Mixed Media techniques. Be on the lookout for those classes. Should be great! Ingrid Bolton had a class on Ukrainian Egg Making on Feb 20th. This is such a fascinating skill and she did a great job teaching it. Cresswind Pottery Club
2019 Ping Pong
By Joyce Plawecki Exciting things are happening in pottery class this session. We have learned to make pinch pots, cylinders, and perfect rectangle boxes. Trays with beautiful patterns pressed into them, napkin holders, cylinders with fun designs on the outside, Christmas ornaments, wall art, decorative bowls and sculptures are being made from these basic designs. As the new members progress to more advanced projects, their creativity and unique ideas are emerging. If you are interested in being creative and have a basic knowledge of clay, please contact Brenda Crosby -crosbybk@windstream.net. Classes are Tuesdays 12:30 to 5 pm and each Friday is a workshop from 1:00 to 5 pm in the Arts and Crafts Room.
Writers in the Wind
The Ping Pong club kicked off the new year with a Meet and Greet social time. Our membership has grown over 175% and we have moved into a new space which is the Lanier Room. We now have a larger area and will offer a variety of activities for all to play and enjoy. This year we will have an increased offering of tournaments and possibly have some competitions with outside communities. All are welcome no matter what level of play or how since you may have played! Lessons are also available- all you need do is ask. We would like to announce the new Ping Pong board members: Skippi Smith......President Jim Cook............Vice President Kim Miller.........Secretary Randy Garcia......Member at Large

The Quilting Club
By Evelyne Palmer
The Quilting Club has set a busy schedule for 2019. This year we will include more Quilting/Sewing demonstrations conducted by our talented members. Our current schedule includes using a color wheel to pick your fabric colors, how to use rulers, and free-motion quilting in March. These demonstrations are held the 3rd Thursday of the month. Our plan includes attending local Quilting Expos and exhibits (first one in March), work on more personal projects, and plan more road trips for shopping the surrounding Quilt Shops. The Holiday Market held in October will feature a large quilting project this year. Our commitment to making donations quilts will continue. Our primary recipients are Legacy Link for Seniors in need in the Hall County and surrounding areas, Quilts for Kids, and contributing quilts as we can. Our current project is a Quilt for Elatchee Nature Center. We meet every Thursday, 1:00 to 4:00 pm in the Arts and Craft Room. All levels of Quilters, from beginner to experienced are welcome. Stop by, meet us, and see the work we do. If you have an interest in sewing and want to join us, we welcome all new prospective members! We do many quilting related projects, big and small, work at individual levels, and have fun! Contact either Evelyne Palmer, hybiscus5@outlook.com or Bonnie May at Quilt.lady2@charter.net. The Club is available to offer assistance to our fellow residents if you have any quilting projects you started and now have the time to finish.

Social Singles
By Elaine Vetter
2019 has started out busy for Social Singles including a White Elephant raffle (where members went home with a new treasure or an item for the Goodwill Bag), lunch at Atlas pizza, and a trip to Athens for lunch and the UGA Women’s Gymnastics Meet. Our fourth annual Super Bowl party moved from the Fitness Lounge to the Crow’s Nest and Billiard Room where members enjoyed homemade chili with all the ‘fixins mixed in with a little football. “Tacos are My Valentine” was the theme for the February 14th evening of fun and games with a buffet provided by Moe’s Southwest. Group outings were taken to both the Atlanta Gladiators hockey game and the Gwinnett Lacrosse at the Infinite Energy Center about 20 miles south of Cresswind. And a few adventurous members even snow tubed at Stone Mountain Park in late February. We are switching from “wearin’ of the green” and Corn Beef and Cabbage for St. Pat’s day to Gold, Purple, and Green along with masks, beads, and Cajun food for a Mardi Gras party in early March. The winter weather has cooperated for a few walks at Wilshire Trails in Gainesville with a plan to check out other parks in the area during the next couple months. Other regularly scheduled monthly activities include lunch bunch, bowling, and a meal out for just the guys. If you are single and looking for new things to do with other single residents, this is a great group to join. Check out our website at cllsocialsingles.com or contact Elaine Vetter at elvetter@hotmail.com for more information.

Here we go….Pickleball Update
By Rosemarie Bower
Our annual meeting, which was held January 24th, recognized the following for their help in making pickleball the fun sport that it is: Jackie Edington for going above and beyond for the donations from Benchmark Physical Therapy and Northeast Georgia Health Systems that we received. Wendy Tomme for going above and beyond working for the donation that we received from Northeast Georgia Health Systems. Brian Sturzione for all the work he does maintaining and fixing equipment for our PB club. Garon Hart for being our Webpage Master. Howie Mueller for being our very own Clark Kent. The weather has been a chilly one, but you will find brave souls out on the pickleball courts. Way to go! Our first tournament of the year, Polar Express Buzz, was held January 26th. Sixty players were in the line-up. Fun was had by all and congratulations to all our winners! NOVICE training began February 21st. Susie Holbrook and Brenda Young are teaching the class. Spring Leagues will begin March 14th. We will have morning and evening leagues. We are looking forward to a couple of tournaments that will be held in March. The first one will be held on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. We will have players from Deaton Creek joining our folks. I wonder if we will see any leprechauns on the courts? Next will be our Clay Myers 4th Annual Round Robin Tournament Saturday, March 30th. Weather permitting, we plan to have an unveiling of our bricks that were purchased last year. Watch for more information on this in the daily update. Check out our website: cresswindpickleball.com Come down to the courts and check us out! We will be happy to see you!

Cresswind LL Veterans Inc
By Pete Lyons
Members had a chance to meet our University of North Georgia scholarship recipient in January (She’s the younger one in the picture.). A Veteran herself, her husband is on active duty and she is living separately with their child while earning her nursing degree. Helping Others recently included paying for electricity when the heat was turned off for $2.31 (We paid the bill plus over $100 more.), purchasing food at the supermarket and delivering it to a 72-year-old Veteran’s house, delivering donated furniture, buying bicycles for Veterans on foot, and so forth. If you want to become involved and help others, share your name at www.cresswindveterans.org.
Another Successful Fantasy Football League is in the books! Gary Crawford was the overall League winner. There were four Division winners total. See Pics attached. Thanks to Bob Bobkowski for his overall leadership and management of the League. Sports and Games Bingo nights are still going strong with sellouts for every event. Next event is Tuesday, March 12th, a St Patty’s Day Bingo Night. Watch for Daily Updates with other Sports and Games events such as Bocce Ball, Miniature Golf (starting again in April), Basketball, and hopefully Cornhole. Looking for volunteers to help out with Cornhole. We already have one willing body, but need at least one more. Contact Pete Lyons if interested. Over the Holidays, Sports and Games donated monies to a local elementary school to help provide much needed games and sports equipment for the kids. We got back many heartfelt and funny “Thank You” notes. Thanks to the Bingo Night attendees as the monies taken in are used for many needed Cresswind activities and an occasional outside community effort such as the elementary school donation. Come join us at Bingo and also help support the other sports and games around Cresswind.

The winter chill is gone and spring weather has arrived. It is the perfect time for tennis. We welcome those new to Cresswind and those who have lived here longer, but have not participated in tennis, to come join the fun. Even if you have not played for several years, or feel a bit rusty, we welcome you. Thanks to Bill Papciak and his team of instructors, we offer Tennis Clinics which give us a chance to regain or sharpen our skills. After a brief winter break, our women’s and men’s competitive teams have begun their spring seasons. The women are playing in the 3.0 USTA 40+ (yes, we play our daughters), 55+ and 65+ leagues. The men participate in 3 ALTA leagues and 2 Silverball leagues. This is the first season that the men are adding a second Silverball league which plays against local communities. Our first Round Robin Social will be on Saturday, March 9th from 2 – 5 pm, with a rain date of March 10th. We plan on an enjoyable afternoon of exciting tennis followed by food and frolic. Everyone is welcome to join the festivities. June 8th is the date for our next Round Robin Social. A tennis club website will soon be available to keep you updated on tennis happenings. Meanwhile, for more information about tennis events, contact our president, Jim Seifert at seifertj@ bellsouth.net.

It is early spring but the Cresswind LL Kayak Club has already been planning some fun events for the club members and the Cresswind community. For the club members, as well as other Cresswind residents who want to experience the fun of being on the water, we will continue to lead informal group paddles. This spring we will resume the Saturday morning paddles from the Cresswind Marina and throw in some evening paddles. We also plan to repeat another fun event in September – a group paddle to Skogies Lakefront Restaurant at the Gainesville Marina, for a brunch. The club has scheduled a community kayak day on Saturday, April 6th. This will give all Cresswind residents the opportunity to explore kayaking. You will be able to talk to club members and spend some time on

Theatre at Cresswind!
By Wayne Blum
The Neighborhood Theatre Group has a new play coming this spring. It is another comedy. That’s right. We cannot get enough comedy! The play is called “You Can’t Take It With You” by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman. THE STORY: At first the Sycamores seem mad, but it is not long before we realize that if they are mad, the rest of the world is madder. In contrast to these delightful people are the unhappy Kirbys. The plot shows how Tony, attractive young son of the Kirbys, falls in love with Alice Sycamore and brings his parents to dine at the Sycamore home on the wrong evening. The shock sustained by the Kirbys, who are invited to eat cheap food, shows Alice that marriage with Tony is out of the question. The Sycamores, however, though sympathetic to Alice, find it hard to realize her point of view. Meantime, Tony, who knows the Sycamores are right and his own people wrong, will not give her up, and in the end Mr. Kirby is converted to the happy madness of the Sycamores, particularly since he happens in during a visit by an ex-Grand Duchess, earning her living as a waitress. No mention has as yet been made of the strange activities of certain members of the household engaged in the manufacture of fireworks; nor of the printing press set up in the parlor; nor of Rheba the maid and her friend Donald; nor of Grandpa’s interview with the tax collector when he tells him he doesn’t believe in the income tax. The play will be directed by Joe Tellus. This is Joe’s first venture into directing here in Cresswind. He says his previous experience involved directing school children. This should be interesting! Please plan to attend to support Joe and about sixteen of your friends and neighbors. The dates are May 16th – 18th at 7:00 pm and May 19th at 3:00 pm. These past and future productions are not possible without the combined efforts of actors, costume designers, set decorators, chorus, dancers, house management, and many other volunteers. In fact, it took well over 100 volunteers for our last play, “Present Laughter”! If you are new to the neighborhood or have been around for some time and want to get involved with the theater, please contact Wayne Blum at theblums@charter.net. No experience is necessary. If you do not want to try acting, there is plenty to do “behind the scenes”. This year, 2019, promises to be another successful year for your Neighborhood Theatre.
