Committee Corner News from the Architectural Review Committee (ARC) The mission of the ARC is simply stated: “To preserve and enhance the aesthetic qualities of Cresswind at Lake Lanier for the enjoyment of all current and future homeowners, while protecting and growing the value of our homes.” How this mission is fulfilled is not so simple, and it relies on every Cresswind homeowner having a basic understanding of our Cresswind rules and regulations that apply to the ARC.

Why is the ARC mission important? I still remember our first visits to Cresswind. It was so pretty and we loved driving around the community enjoying the lovely homes, front gardens, and common areas. The community we lived in did not have an ARC or homeowner’s association. Sure, we had wonderful neighbors and friends, but believe me when I say there was a wide variation in what our neighbors’ thought was attractive or necessary. When we put our house on the market, our realtor cautioned us that the “uneven” look of our neighborhood would impact our selling price. Needless to say, we were excited to move to a beautiful community where the aesthetic qualities would be maintained. So, what does aesthetic qualities mean? If something has aesthetic qualities it will be pleasing to one’s senses. At Cresswind, the ARC tries to ensure that we maintain our aesthetic qualities by ensuring a harmonious feel to the look of our community. What does this mean? It means creating and maintaining a pleasing or consistent whole, having the parts of our community (homes, gardens, etc.) agreeably related, coordinated, balanced, proportional, and compatible. This is the basis of most, if not all, of our ARC (and the Landscaping Committee’s) rules and regulations. And this is why all changes to the exterior of a Cresswind residence require ARC approval in advance of starting the work. We strongly encourage our homeowners to reach out to the ARC when they start planning changes or additions to their homes and yards. As a point of clarification, the ARC is responsible for reviewing proposed “non-living” changes to the exterior

By Debbie Seymour

of our homes, e.g., hardscaping, yard ornamentation, patios, decks, etc. The Landscape Committee is responsible for reviewing proposed “living” changes to the exteriors of our homes, e.g., plants, shrubs, trees, etc. When you purchased your Cresswind home, you signed or initialed a whole stack of papers, including a contract saying you would adhere to the Cresswind rules and regulations, and you may have been given a CD that contained an electronic version of these rules and regulations. A lot of information is exchanged at a home closing, and it can be a challenge to remember everything. Thankfully, the latest version of the rules and regulations can be found on our Cresswind website under the Resources tab. It is important to use the latest version of the rules and regulations when you plan your projects, as they are periodically updated. Another very important reason to be familiar with and follow the ARC rules and regulations is that a significant amount of work handled by our Board of Directors is directly related to residents’ failure to understand and/or follow the ARC and the Landscape Committee’s rules and regulations. These are challenging times, and our Board of Director’s have full agendas. If we are familiar with the rules and regulations, we will not add unnecessary work to individuals who are already, voluntarily, committing a significant amount of their personal time to our community’s well-being. Typically, the ARC averages approximately 30 requests per month. However, for the last 3 months, the ARC has received an average of 60 requests per month. So, the ARC is very busy, but happy to assist our Cresswind neighbors’ with getting approvals for their home improvements. So, please don’t forget to put in an ARC request for all changes to the exterior of your home!

Covenants, Rules & Regulations Committee By Mario Russo

Over the past few months, the Covenants and Rules and Regulations Committee has been hard at work updating the complete CLL Rules and Regulations Manual. This is the first time since October of 2018 that an update of the CLL Rules and Regulations Manual has been done. This updating would not have been possible without the assistance of many of the committees, clubs, and workgroups that are stakeholders of the different chapters contained within the manual. Once the final review has been completed by the different groups, the draft manual will be forwarded to the Board of Directors for evaluation before being placed online for the CLL residents. The CRRC is working to have the updated CLL Rules and Regulations Manual online by the later part of September. Look for an upcoming announcement in the coming months that the updated manual has been put online for viewing. If we can answer any questions you might have, please feel free to contact a committee member. Committee members are listed on the Cresswind website. Page 6 | The Waterfall | September/October

Committee Corner

Cresswind Education Committee by Mary Selbitschka

A BIG “thank you” to our residents who contributed to the very successful Public Safety Appreciation Event. Your contributions provided over 150 meals for our police and fire men and women who serve us every day. Between July 28th and July 31st, Cresswind Education Committee members delivered over 150 lunches, beverages, and snacks to the Gainesville police, and Gainesville and Hall county fire stations serving our neighborhood. Each location also received gift cards that were distributed via a drawing. Humbled appreciation was expressed by all. We were happy to purchase delicious meals from two local restaurants, Johnny’s BBQ and the Longstreet Cafe on Riverside Drive. We also thank our partner, the Cresswind Community Fund for their professional assistance in getting this accomplished. Education Committee member, Lois Ehlers, coordinated the well planned and executed event. Enjoy the picture below and in the Scrapbook section taken by the police and fire and shared with us from the event. Past Event In July, we had a Zoom presentation by Matt Cargle on Internet Safety and Fraud. The topics were timely and informative. We hope to have Matt again later this year to cover other internet and computer related topics. In August, Chattahoochee Riverkeepers presented via Zoom. Headwaters Director, Dale Caldwell and Headwaters Outreach Director, Mallory Pendleton, spoke about the history of the Chattahoochee Riverkeepers and their

Health & Fitness Committee By Laurie Solomon The Health and Fitness Committee would like to thank all Cresswind residents for your cooperation now that we have opened the Fitness Center, indoor pool, and outdoor pool (with water classes). The social distancing, the sign ups, when necessary, and wiping down the gym equipment after use will keep us all in a safer place. It takes everyone to accomplish this goal. Wendy Warder’s class has also resumed on Monday and Wednesday at 4:45 pm in the gym with a limit of 10 people. The sign up for that class is available online. For those residents who choose not to return to group activities, you may want to think about exploring Functional Fitness training. As we age, it is crucial to retain the ability to perform the activities of daily living (ADLs). ADLs include: mobility (standing and walking), self-care (bathing and grooming), handling one’s living environment (driving, shopping, household chores), maintaining physical abilities necessary for tasks that improve quality of life (recreational activities, caring for family members). Most ADLs require coordination and balance of the body in order to successfully perform a movement. Simple solo activities can help maintain independence. Page 10 | The Waterfall | September/October

connection to the river and its health and use. Ways for residents to become involved were shared with those in attendance. Ongoing Events

Walking with good form is imperative, as well as walking both forward and backward, and moving laterally. Doing this will give you the ability to call these movements into play when necessary. Throwing and catching a ball is good for hand eye coordination as well as getting the upper body to move in different directions. Balance training should initially be done by a wall or stable support to avoid falling. Stand on one leg, then switch to the other and see how long you can maintain balance. As you get more adept, try not to hold on and when you are ready you can do it with your eyes closed which changes your whole perception of the space around you. Having the ability to move from a seated position to standing using just your legs is a worthwhile goal. Try it during TV commercials and work up to not using your hands for support. Having the ability to get up and down off the floor is another functional fitness activity that will serve you well.

Functional Fitness training needs to simulate real life tasks that are performed on a day to day basis. Maintaining the ability to carry out these skills for as long as possible is a goal worth striving for and offers an excellent return on your exercise investment.

Welcome Committee News By Sue Joninas

Our Cresswind Welcome Committee is still reaching out to new residents regardless of the pandemic. Our members are sending cards, calling, and offering their support. We let the residents know they can call us and we will help them in any way we can. We also find that neighbors on their street are reaching out to make them feel welcome. We hope to begin making visits sometime soon. We are hoping to hold a Resident Orientation in September for all new residents since March. If that does not occur, we will be making up welcome packages for the residents. If you do not hear from a Welcome Committee Member within four to six weeks of closing, please contact me at sjoninas@gmail.com. We do not want to miss any new residents, even in this difficult time!! Welcome to Cresswind!

Committee Corner

Landscape Committee

By Linda Furgerson

We are all indeed extremely fortunate to live in Cresswind Lake Lanier. The lake provides endless scenic beauty, fabulous sunrise views, and outstanding sunsets. But with all that beauty there also comes responsibilities and restrictions. Three watershed authorities operate within the Hall County, City of Gainesville area, including within our own Cresswind. The most prominent, and most restrictive, being the Army Corps of Engineers. Here is some information, specifically about Corps of Engineering Property, but is also applicable to land owned/maintained by the other watershed authorities. Some Background Lake Lanier was created by the completion of Buford Dam on the Chattahoochee River in 1956 and is also fed by the waters of the Chestatee River. The lake encompasses 38,000 acres or 59 square miles of water, and 692 miles of shoreline at normal level, a “full pool” of 1,071 feet above mean sea level and the exact shoreline varies by resolution. The lake was built and is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and water supplies. It is patrolled by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GDNR), as well as local law enforcement. There are several reasons for continuing to have trees on Corps’ property. They establish and maintain natural habitat for wildlife; they help reduce soil erosion; and they keep the shoreline natural to reduce the noise levels. Lake Lanier has a very limited natural environment on its shorelines and the Corps is working hard to maintain and protect what is there. Did you know that it is illegal to remove trees from public lands surrounding Lake Lanier? It’s just like going on your neighbor’s property and cutting down trees. The US Army Corps of engineers is continuing its dedicated program to enforce timber trespass on public lands to protect the shoreline. When it is obvious that trees have been removed from Corps’ property, rangers will come out and talk with the homeowners adjacent to the public lands. The Corps will make every effort to determine when the trees were removed and who was responsible for removing them before taking any action.

Page 16 | The Waterfall | September/October

Plain and Simple Here are the Rules Regulations governing the use of Lake Lanier are established in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 36, Part 327. Copies are available at the Operation Management Office. Any type of work or installation of facilities on public property must be approved by the Operations Project Manager. A permit must be issued prior to any work being done on public property. To protect and properly manage Lake Lanier’s land and water resources the following acts are PROHIBITED: • Clearing of trees and understory vegetation

• Planting of non-native and ornamental vegetation

• Placement of unpermitted items (such as swings, picnic tables, benches, storage sheds, boat trailers, etc.) • Grading/Land disturbing activities.

A violation of the Shoreline Management provisions or of the regulation shall subject the violator to revocation of permits or a fine of not more than $5,000.00 or imprisonment for not more than six (6) months or both. Fines and replanting

The penalty for removing trees from public lands can be a combination of fines and a requirement to replace trees as much as a two-to-one ratio, depending on the size of the trees that were removed. If there is a dock permit associated with the property, the permit will be tagged noting the encroachment and may also be voided. If it is voided,

all dock facilities will be required to be removed. This where it gets important to Cresswind. Although the fines are assigned to the individual homeowner who commits the act, the “demerit” actually goes against Cresswind as a whole. If enough “demerits” are attributed to Cresswind, this could result in our dock and other boating facilities being REMOVED! You Can Request to Have Dangerous Trees Removed You must receive a permit before removing damaged or hazardous trees located on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers public lands and federal properly. Trees posing a threat to public safety or property should be reported to the USACE Lake Lanier Project Management Office, at (770) 945-9531.

Resident News

The President’s View

My Fellow Residents - By now you already know that we have completed the Transition and Turnover of both our Community and Marina from Kolter, our Developer to our Care, Custody and Control. With minimal issues, we can now celebrate our going forward independent futures. As seamlessly as it occurred, it represents a true Milestone in our Community’s long history. Certainly, a great deal of thanks and gratitude goes to those who toiled on behalf of Community to bring us to this day. Please do not forget that along with this transition, all of the current Rules, Regulations and our Guiding Documents, our Charter and City and County Ordinances are still in full force and effect – there are no changes in those areas. As a result of the transition, Purchases and Sales of Marina Boat Slip Rights will have been put into effect. We can also celebrate the completion of the first phase of our signing of the new Spectrum Contract, the completion of the initial Road Repaving efforts as well as having our entry gates closed 7x24 as we had discussed.

As far as COVID –19 and our Amenities, as of this writing, we have continuously been reviewing statistics within Cresswind and as you are aware the cases have not abated in our area. We all continue to hope for a downturn in these figures and the approval of a Vaccine in the near future. It has indiscriminately reached out to many of us, our families and friends and hopefully we have been able to weather those difficult periods. Our Amenities have been re-opening slowly, and we optimistically look toward that continuing in the future. We are also reviewing the location and methodology for our upcoming Election and Annual Meeting – we will keep

the Community apprised as it comes closer. We are in the midst of preparing the 2021 Budget and having our Reserve Study re-performed. They should be completed in the early Fall and will then be presented to the Community I would be remiss if I did not convey my thanks to all of our residents and in particular our Club and Committee Chairs and their respective Boards, Fellow Board Members and First Service Staff for their assistance over these many months. Certainly, Elizabeth has brought activities and food trucks our way, and Joe who has monitored our pools. We all had a hand in getting to this point and will continue to shape the Future of Our Cresswind Community. Please stay Safe, Strong, and Active. Regards, Dan Gershkowitz

Bible Study Club By Dave Dittmeier

A Prayer to End Covid 19 Submitted by David Dittmeier

Lord, Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages “curing every disease and illness.” Come to our aid now, that we may experience your healing love. Jesus Christ, healer of all, stay by our side in this time of uncertainty and sorrow.

Be with those who have died from the virus. May they be at rest with you in your eternal peace. Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. May they know your peace. Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process.

Cresswind Bowling League by Jim Cook

The Cresswind Bowling League will begin the 2020-2021 bowling season in September at Stars and Strikes in Buford. The Bowling Board and League members will abide by any Stars and Strikes bowling rules/guidelines in relation to Covid 19 and those rules/ guidelines will be the final structure under which we will be permitted to conduct our league play. The Bowling Board reminds each bowler that you will be bowling at your own risk, as always, pertaining to injury or illness. The Bowling Board will expect that Cresswind bowlers will use good judgement in order to have a fun bowling experience and be protective of our collective and individual health during the season. These expectations include; If you are experiencing illness on bowling day, please do NOT bowl that day with respect for other bowlers. Any additional information about the Stars and Strikes rules/guidelines should be available by September 1, 2020, by clicking on the the Cresswind ‘Bowling Club’ website link on the Cresswind ‘Daily Update’ email. Page 28 | The Waterfall | September/October

May they know your protection and peace. Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve. Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks. May they know your peace, as they work together to achieve it on earth. We ask these things, Father, in the name of your Son and Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Cooking Club News By Lisa Giblin

What do they say “The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men?” Well, the Cooking Club had high hopes we would be able to host several events in the summer and fall. We are still hopeful that once the state mandated guidelines are eased, we will be able to host a few events in 2020. The Cooking Club Board continues to meet and discuss options for hosting an event where the community can feel safe to enjoy it. In the meantime, we are turning our attention to planning for 2021. The Cooking Club Board will be filling three positions in 2021. Nominations will be solicited in October with the election in November. We encourage residents to please communicate their interest to any Board member. We are excited about changing the future direction of the Cooking Club and we are looking for individuals that want to be a part of setting a new direction. In addition, keep an eye out for a survey we will be generating to all Cooking Club members. The goal is to capture your input. We want to balance our offerings with not only large events but smaller interactive settings which would include Chef led demonstrations, online classes and other topics of interest. We look forward to your participation and ongoing support.

CPAC Update By Wayne Blum

This year has been a frustrating and challenging one for CPAC. We are a community used to being active in many ways. Due to the pandemic, our theater and choral events this year have been cancelled. However, working closely with our HOA, we have come up with a few fall events that may be of interest to our residents. On August 20th - 22nd the theater group staged an event called “Scene It.” Because this article is being written before the event, I cannot comment on its success! Hopefully, all those that attended enjoyed it! If so, we will certainly entertain the idea of repeating it in the future.

September 17th - 19th we will present a scaled down version of our Annual Variety Show. To date, there are approximately 10 acts scheduled to perform. In this event, Cresswind residents showcase the hidden and not-so-hidden talents. October 15th -17th finds our storytelling group putting on an event entitled “Once Upon A Time II.” This is an event whereby 10 or more residents entertain you with a story of their own making. Is it fact or fiction? That is for you to determine. The above events are scheduled to be performed outside on the lawn behind the Cresswind Clubhouse. Guidelines for social distancing will be followed and face masks will be required. At this time, the guidelines stipulate that no more than fifty residents will be allowed to attend each performance. Page 30 | The Waterfall | September/October

This past year, we have offered online entertainment such as an audio rendition of “I’m Herbert” a video presentation of “Inside the Department of the Exterior” and clips from old theater productions. We will continue to make this type of entertainment available until such time that we are once again fully active.

What’s Happening

Cresswind Veterans Club By Bill Edmondson

Our Cresswind Board continues to manage and plan our charity’s assistance to others in Hall County, despite the current conditions we face. Doing so by phone, email, and occasional face to face we have several success stories of providing financial assistance to vets in need. Within the past two months, we have received 3-4 referrals from United Way and churches in our area of vets having difficulty with their expenses; we vet their needs and which is most appropriate, and then decide to whom (landlord, medical provider, etc.) and amount to provide. We also have continued our Hospice program by providing services and support to those in need…several services held for patients within the past few weeks. Some may still allow face to face, but most are at a distance or directly with family members; even at that, the patient knows we are there and involved…a great satisfaction and benefit to the patient and family. And our Vet Court Mentoring Program continues for those vets involved in the Hall County Judicial System. We have some half-dozen mentors actively engaged with their mentees, trying to encourage and support them as they overcome some rather bad decisions in the past and try to turn their lives around for the better. We have a new mentor coordinator, Ron Micuch, who oversees the program and is responsible for assigning our mentor volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, please reach out to Ron. Our Board has also had to postpone our next raffle for several months and rescheduled the winning prize till next year. We have scheduled a week stay in a vacation house on Hilton Head Island for May 8–16, 2021. Ticket sales and drawing dates will be announced once our Clubhouse reopens. Also, as a reminder, our annual clothing/coat collection will be held as we approach fall; keep an eye open for details in the Cresswind daily updates. Best wishes to you all…we look forward to a time we can have our next club meeting…meanwhile stay safe—social distance— wear your mask. God Bless!

Dance Rhythms Club

Wendy O’Hanlon started the Dance Rhythms Club in January 2020 and held classes on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday mornings in the Lanier Room. As you know, our lives changed mid March with the closing of the clubhouse. After homes were organized and deep cleaned, outdoor gardens and landscape projects completed, the dance group needed to reconnect and Wendy, along with approximately 20 of the 30+ members, found a way to maintain their physical and mental well being with their passion for dance. Early mornings are now filled with the sounds of music at the Pavilion along with the rhythmic play of pickleball close by and the calls for “turn the music up!” To allow for social distancing, the class attendance was reduced and scheduled on multiple days. Wendy is so appreciative of her dance group for keeping her moral up and especially to Lou Dunn for her talents with photography and video work for the Cresswind web page (Tab Info, Clubs, Dance Rhythms). Questions for Wendy, please email golfgirl2011@att.net. We are just Better When We’re Dancin’! Stay well everyone.

What’s Happening

Cresswind Community Garden By Sarah Galshack

Did you know at one point in the development of this lovely neighborhood the piece of land the community garden now sits on was nothing but scrub with a construction trailer in the middle? Thanks to some of our very early residents who had visions of raised beds and flowers and vegetables dancing in their heads they were able to convince Kolter that that piece of property just begged to be a community garden. And so, it evolved from there.

Garden Designation is applied for, and of course, our annual Scarecrow contest (watch the Daily Update for details). A round of well-deserved applause for Cresswind gardeners who had the vision back in the day and to the present-day gardeners (still some of the originals) who continue to work so hard to keep this lovely vision alive! Kudos!

It has come a long way baby! Just look at it now. A real explosion of blooms, and gardeners busily harvesting, a place where events are held, meetings can take place, where everyone in the community can benefit from it if they choose, and so many do. We have folded the adjacent piece of property into the vision and created a Serenity Garden where you will find native plants, shade and hopefully some calm in our chaotic times. Fall will continue to be a busy time in the garden as boxes are transitioned from warm weather to cool weather vegetables, perennials plants will be divided (look for them to be available in October), a Pollinator

International Missions Club By Tom Flaim

Your International Missions Club has been working hard coming up with COVID-friendly events that will aid a great cause and bring us together as a community again. The first one is a Water@Work Trivia Night that is professionally run and only $10 to play. It will be Sunday evening, September 13th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. All you trivia fans can exercise your memory and test your skill by registering at www.wateratworkministry.org. There is a prominent blue registration button on the Home page for easy registration. The second is going to be an inaugural Walk-AThon on Halloween morning. The CDC website says that walking outdoors is the best activity you can do in these COVID times. Families will be welcome and touch-free candy will be available for the kids. You can walk any of three segments in the community, either 0.5 miles, 1.0 miles or 1.5 miles. The Walk will culminate at the Event Lawn in back of the clubhouse where we will enjoy a boxed Chick-Fil-A lunch. By Linda Gillot Do you have an RV? Let us know if you are interested in joining the RV Club. Please email: cll.rvclub@gmail.com. The Steering Committee welcomes comments and trip suggestions for 2021.

We started this traveling season with Karen Silverthorn and Brenda Crosby stepping down as co-leaders of our band of happy travelers. They have worked tirelessly on behalf the Club for three years and we thank them for their service. Priscilla Stockwell will now keep us all organized with the new Steering Committee sharing various responsibilities. Our first outing this season was not actually a trip since we had eight rigs do an informal gathering August 30th -September 3rd right here in Hall County at Bolding Mill Corps of Engineer Campground for some good ol’ fashioned camping – of course with heat/AC, microwave, TV, and other various creature comforts. Next up is Cades Cove, TN September 23rd-30th. Then we head south in November to enjoy a little warmth at Orange Beach, AL. Possible future outings include rescheduling the Charleston trip, and we are kicking around the idea of traveling The Natchez Trace from Nashville to New Orleans in April, 2021. There are lots of historic and interesting places to visit along the way. So much of this great country to see. So little time! In addition to traveling, our group also has several socials throughout the year. For up-to-date info about us and our events, check out the RV Club website: https://sites.google.com/ site/cllrvclub September/October | The Waterfall | Page 39

What’s Happening

Community Travel Club

By Pam Papciak Check out our website for details of this December 8th through 10th trip.

Protocols are in place to assure your safety on both trips following Georgia and North Carolina’s guidelines. Social distancing, required mask wearing, daily sanitation of both the coach and hotel rooms are a few of these stringent protocols. All of Cresswind’s safety is our paramount concern.

If you are ready to travel, the Community Travel Club (CTC) has two exciting trips coming up this year. One local and the other a ‘Road Trip.’ The first is October 21st to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. October is the month of scarecrows in the gardens, and the last month to see the special exhibit Alice’s Wonderland Reimaged. It is the perfect time of year with moderate temperatures to wander (while social distancing) the pristine gardens. Details of the trip will be presented at our September 3rd meeting at 4:00pm under the Pavilion. If you are looking for a way to brighten the December holidays, our Asheville trip is for you. It includes a candlelight tour of the Biltmore House with over 40 decorated Christmas trees, elaborate floral decorations, music and more. A guided tour of Asheville, and the “Winter Lights” Holiday Show at the North Carolina Arboretum with over a half million holiday lights, are just a few of the activities planned for you. We will be staying in the heart of Asheville at the Hyatt Place Downtown.

Small Band News

By John Kelley

If you listen carefully you may hear hints of music in the air. Cresswind small band members are gathering at a safe social distance to rehearse some music for our neighbors. We look forward to being able to “play out” soon. Rumors are there is a new band featuring a “southern rock” sound- cannot wait to hear them. There are still a few driveway concerts and a few offerings of homemade music on the web. We are brainstorming how to make our music available to you our neighbors- let’s make this happen as soon as it is safe for all. Stay safe- there has never been a better time to dust off an instrument from your closet and make joyful noise- enjoy. Page 40 | The Waterfall | September/October

Good news! If you are already a CTC member your 2020 dues will carry over through 2021. If you’re not a member, contact us at cresswind13@gmail.com to find out how to join the Community Travel Club and take part in these amazing trips! If you have not looked at the CTC website recently, please do and check the Photo Gallery. It has photos from our past trips that you might not have seen. You will see the fun Cresswinders have sharing new experiences together in their travels.

Cresswind Model Railroad Club Unprecedented times for sure! We’ve had safety protocols in place for months, limiting gatherings and closed facilities… we are staying home and postponing a lot of our activities; but the one thing on our side is ample time spent at home… and with that, progress is being made by our members on their own layouts at home (see photos for progress reported by several members below). We telephone and email tips and technical advice amongst each other…we attend meetings and

What’s Happening

Tennis Club By Sandy Barmak

It has been a busy time on the tennis courts despite the summer heat and humidity. We are all looking forward to cooler fall temperatures. The reservation system has worked well and many are enjoying our open play, round robin, and men’s competitive play times. Of course, as the coronavirus is still around, we are careful to follow all the guidelines of social distancing and other CDC regulations. We are anxious to return to USTA, ALTA, and Silverball competitive team play. However, as COVID is still with us, and as l write this, we cannot have outside guests on our courts, it is uncertain when we can once again participate in league play. Some of our tennis club members are participating in leagues that play outside of Cresswind.

emergency guidelines and “Social Distancing”. Questions? Contact Bill Papciak, Player Development billpapciak@ gmail.com. We all appreciate the opportunity to hone our skills and learn new strategies. You can see the smiling faces from previous clinics. The status of our Tennis Club activities is constantly changing, as are other amenity activities at Cresswind. To be up to date on the latest happenings, be sure to check the Tennis Club website, https://cresswindll.wixsite.com/ cwtennis, the Daily Update, and your Tennis Club weekly emails. If you would like more information about our tennis program contact Sandy Barmak at sandybarmak@gmail.com.

We all miss the opportunity to socialize with our fellow club members. Our social committee is hoping that they will be able to organize a round robin social for our members in October. It may be different from our usual socials as we follow social distancing guidelines, but it will be great to get together. Bill Papciak and his skilled team of instructors have free clinics planned for the fall. They are scheduled for Saturday September 12th - 10:30 am, Tuesday 15th - 9:00 am, Saturday 26th - 10:30 am. No advance sign-up is required. Men and women of all levels are invited. Each session will last about 90 minutes and we will use three courts, one or two instructors per court. We will comply with health-safety

Social Singles Staying Connected! By Elaine Vetter

Social Singles continues to look for ways to connect with members during this time. Based on a survey sent out at the beginning of April, special interests groups were formed using Zoom. Over the past four months, these groups have evolved and grown and friendships have formed. Whether it is a zoom session, texting, hiking, kayaking, biking, meeting at the pool etc... it has been a way to meet others and stay in touch. There have been several walks on Wilshire Trails followed by lunch downtown before the summer heat chased us back inside. We also did a History ‘Scavenger’ Hunt through Page 44 | The Waterfall | September/October

downtown Gainesville which was created by the Visitors Center. It was very interesting to learn more details about our community and the people and events which have shaped it. With state regulations limiting large group activities, we will continue with the smaller group gatherings. Once the fall temperatures arrive, we hope to have meet-ups for walks/hikes and outside activities where social distancing is more easily accomplished. If you are single and would like to join our club, please access our link on the Cresswind website and share your contact information.

Make & Take By Kathie Zeranski

I have been in discussion with our HOA Board about classes in the Arts & Crafts Room and as with so many in the neighborhood and in the country, we are on hold. Like you, I miss doing art projects and being together with my friends and neighbors but also like you, I know this is what we must do. I have spoken to a number of the people that teach classes and they are all anxious to get back into the clubhouse. As soon as the Board gives me permission, I will be contacting people and scheduling classes for us all. Things, of course will be different at first because we all need to be safe but we will return to our arts! Please be safe until then. If in your time at home you think of a fun activity, let me know and we can add it
