December Ladies Book Club
The Book Club will have its yearly holiday luncheon on Thursday, December 15th, at 11 am on the Clubhouse’s lower level. Attendees will need to RSVP by December 7th to debbie.gudenkauf@icloud.com or colleenkrogh@bellsouth.net. As in the past, entrees are purchased, with each attendee bringing a side dish. We expect the quiche to be about $5 each. There will also be a gift book exchange. Please bring a wrapped new hardcover or larger paperback book you have enjoyed or are interested in reading. Sometimes these books become part of our next year’s reading list. This year’s special treat is the author Renee Propes, who will join us for lunch to discuss her latest book, “Redemption.” This year’s event should be a great meeting. Please join us!

Community news 8 The Compass December 2022 HAPPY HOUR is 5 PM every Thursday All HPYC is invited to bring heavy/light Hors d’oeuvres to share with fellow Happy Hour folks at 5 PM, every Thursday. Should one feel the urge, one can arrive early and set up the venue. The Pavilion is the venue if we have Goldilocks weather... not too hot, not too cold, no storms... the alternate location is the Club House Captains Room. Come on down Thursday for Happy Hour and get to know your neighbors and share whats going on.... Cheers! HAPPY HOUR! Come join the fun each Thursday at the clubhouse 5-7PM Tucker the Truck Thank you for the exceptional opportunity made possible by Christina and Shane Brooks to decorate their gorgeous Tucker for Christmas and make him available for photos! So much fun!
As the season ends, I can’t miss saying thanks to all the people who made playing Pickleball such fun this year. First to mention is Jim Dupree and the board for expanding and resurfacing the courts. Build the courts, and people will come. That is so true as many times we had four and five courts used simultaneously. Thanks to those ladies who selected and ordered our new court furniture. Also, the “husband” power that transported and assembled the furniture cannot be overlooked.
Donations are critical to our good times. This year our players stepped up and contributed over 250 dollars to purchase Pickleballs. Thanks to those that opened their wallets and supported this sport. It’s an ongoing expense, so please expect more begging next year.
The addition of new players is vital to the sport’s continued growth. Thanks to our new neighbors for exploring this new game that continues to grow in popularity. Thanks to the old “guard” that nursed those old legs, ankles, and shoulders. It’s always nice to see you up for “one more game” before returning home to the Bengay Cream.
In closing, I would be remiss not to thank Joe Garcia and Jayne Berry for their time and energy contribution to further the enjoyment of our Pickleball gatherings. Jaynes’s decorations for the monthly socials are always unique and genuinely creative. The monthly socials ended with our annual Halloween party last
night. Thanks to those that came in costumes with food and drink in hand. There is always a next time for those who cannot make it. Historically we always used the time change off daylight savings time as the trigger to move the starting time back to 10:00 am to allow mornings to warm up. With that change coming up on Sunday, November 6th, the official start time for the Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday games, starting Monday, November 7th, will move from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Please try not to winterize your paddles during the coming months, as we live in Georgia, and we all know the weather is highly unpredictable. There is always a chance to find that one nice day and play PICKLEBALL!
My personal thanks to some of the best and closest friends I’ve ever had. Enjoy the up-and-coming holiday season with your friends and family. Best wishes to everyone.
I Look forward to seeing all of you again real soon. Warm regards -RON

Thank you to the many people who help make Harbour Point memorable for all our kids and the many cul-de-sac parties that have been a Harbour Point tradition for years. And thanks to Lisa Brooks for organizing the first Trunk or Treat at the marina parking lot for neighbors.
