Harbour Point resident, John Burkhalter, embarked on a calling in 2009 that has resulted in the publishing of his new book, Jesus’ Every Word and Deed Woven From The Scriptures. I recently sat down with John to discuss his new book. The book is available on ChristianBook, Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other booksellers everywhere.
The complete life of Jesus using only the exact words from the Bible, woven to seamlessly read like a book. This extraordinary work combines the four unique eyewitness accounts of Jesus’ life into a single, unified and harmonious narrative of Jesus’ Every Word and Deed. Fifty-nine Old Testament prophecies are also included where fulfilled in Jesus’ life.
Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council in Washington, DC states: “Finally there is a resource that combines the four Gospels into one continuous and compelling account that makes the story of Jesus even more accessible to those who seek Him. Additionally, Old Testament prophecies that foretell Christ’s words and deeds are inserted in a way that enriches the whole and everything is color coded for easy identification. I commend John Burkhalter for his labor intensive effort that promises much reward for those who engage it.”
Students and scholars alike will enjoy this easy to read but comprehensive work that offers insights for everyone. The entire teachings and actions of Jesus are recorded in this easily readable format which also contains a mirrored Scripture Reference Section in the back showing where every word is found by book, chapter and verse. The eBook version allows the reader to easily toggle back and forth between the book and reference sections. No “artistic license” is taken and the entirety of the work stands alone in describing the acts, wisdom, and teachings of Jesus in a complete yet concise format. Separately, a Readers Theater version of Jesus’ Every Word and Deed presents the work in an interactive medium for verbalizing all the roles in bible study groups, podcasts, plays and more.
So why this book and how’s it different? The four Gospel accounts of Jesus’ life provide separate viewpoints, and as would be expected, each includes eyewitness details and events not found in the others. So each reveals a part of the record of Jesus Christ. With the permission of Biblica to use the NIV text, this book combines all those details and events into a single storyline to provide a complete view of Jesus’ life, teachings, death and resurrection. All duplication is eliminated, but the unique details of each are preserved, as the EXACT Scripture wordings are woven together to provide the entire account. There’s a certain simplicity in reading the whole unified message with all the details and events from the four parts.
Q: When did you first realize you wanted to write this book and what inspired you to write it?
A: I was sitting in Sunday School in a class about the Gospels in 2009, and each are so different. Some appear to conflict with each other, but that’s not true. But each is so different Some have certain events that others don’t. Matthew, Mark and Luke are similar, but John is different. They are all independent eyewitness accounts because they are different and have different details. I thought why not have all of the details from the different accounts weaved together? Nowhere that I could find weaved together the story using the exact words from the Bible.
Q: How long did it take you to write the book?
A: I began in 2009, and in 2019 I asked permission from Biblica who is the owner of the New International Version to use their version in the book. While I assumed it would be rubber stamped, I was told I could use their version however I had to quote the most current version. Well it turns out that I started in 2009, and in 2011 they put out a new updated version. They didn’t do much, but I had to go back through the entire 4 books of the Bible and check every word and make the changes to the new version.
Q: What do you enjoy when you aren’t writing?
A: Writing the book has been my main focus for the last 13 years. I’m really glad that God did not give me the sense that it was going to take 13 years to
do this, because they would have really intimidated me! So a lot of my focus has been on this book. I did enjoy golf, but I have that up about 5 years ago. I fish and still enjoy that and go about once a week. I don’t catch many fish, kinda like golf, I’m not very good at it even though I enjoy it.
Q: What was one of the most surprising things that you learned through writing the book?
A: I think how seamlessly everything fit together and how it reads. It flows almost like a movie script or any other book, and it is a very easy to read book. I was pleasantly surprised that after I charted it out that the story really wove together easily.
This month the Book Club will meet on Thursday, November 17 at 10:00 on the first floor of the clubhouse.
Our book is “Redemption: A Story of Grace” by Renee Proper. Renee will be joining us at our December Luncheon to discuss and answer questions. This is her third book in the Abington Series. Please join us for good conversation!
Here is a short summary: Seven years after the death of his duplicitous wife and the betrayal and disappearance of his best friend, Teddy Williams has built a comfortable life with Kate, his bright, beautiful new wife and the daughter they both adore.
When he decides to help Katie pursue her childhood dream of training a Kentucky Derby Champion, Teddy envisions a project that will draw them closer as a couple. But the challenges of upgrading their horse farm to a state-of-the-art Thoroughbred racing facility are greater than he could have imagined. Red tape, roadblocks, and miscommunication threaten to fracture their marriage, while sabotage and a ghost from the past threaten their very lives.
Can Kate’s dream of winning the Kentucky Derby come true? Will Teddy’s and Katie’s marriage survive their Run for the Roses?
More importantly, will they?
