FROM THE HAMILTON MILL BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Dear Residents, The Hamilton Mill Board of Directors would like to inform you that it has voted and approved (7-0) an increase in the association dues to adjust on January 1, 2020, to $1,000.00. The increase for the year 2020 comes from the Budget and Finance Committee’s audit done in 2017 and the recommendation to adjust in this coming year. In the past, residents have let us know that they would like to be notified as early as possible of any increases to better plan their budgets through the fall/winter holidays. In addition, our dues schedule will be converted to an annual 3% cost of living increase. We understand that people typically don’t like fee increases of any kind, but as our community continues to age and weather, we know that residents want this association to be fiscally prepared to maintain the integrity and appearance that has made Hamilton Mill one of the premier places to live in Gwinnett County. If you have any questions, please join us for an upcoming monthly board meeting. We encourage residents to attend and get involved. The meeting schedule is posted on hmill.com. Thank You,
The Hamilton Mill Board of Directors

RESIDENT NEWS
Dear Residents, When driving your golf cart in the community, please do so with caution. Safety is our number one priority in the community. Here are some tips to keep in mind for safe driving!
Low Inventory Alert Homes are needed in the following areas for buyers: BUFORD, DACULA, FLOWERY BRANCH, & SUGAR HILL
1. Always drive responsibly. Arms and legs should always remain in the vehicle, and if your cart is equipped with them, seat belts should always be fastened. 2. Only carry passengers that you have seats for. Do not try to squeeze in extra passengers. 3. Never drive recklessly or joy ride. Be courteous to other drivers, and obey vehicle traffic laws and the rules of the road. 4. Never drive intoxicated or under the influence of any drug or narcotic. 5. Avoid distractions while operating your golf cart. No matter the size of the vehicle, it’s still an automobile. Remain attentive and avoid talking, texting, reading, reaching for objects, applying makeup or eating while driving. 6. Never allow anyone to stand in the vehicle, or on the platform located in the back and never put the vehicle in motion until all passengers are safely inside and buckled in. 7. Always use hand signals to indicate upcoming turns as well as your turn signals. Turn signals may be small or go unnoticed by vehicles behind you, so it’s always a good idea to use hand signals as well.
Shawn Buchan
8. Always check blind spots before turning. When making a left-hand turn, yield to the through traffic lane and merge into that lane before turning left. 9. Use caution while turning, and look behind your golf cart before backing up. 10. Avoid excessive speeds, sudden starts and stops, and avoid sharp turns at fast speeds. 11. Reduce speed depending on the driving conditions and driving environment. Reduce speed on hills and inclines or declines, blind corners, and yield to pedestrians.
Call us today if we can help you determine your home value.
12. Do not leave keys in the golf cart while unattended, and always make sure to set the parking brake.
678-661-1459
13. Always yield to pedestrians. 14. Use extreme caution in inclement weather. Golf carts may be prone to lightning strikes. Avoid driving in inclement weather if you can.

RESIDENT NEWS
Reading Tidbits by Deb Puszewski, Ed.S.
As a former elementary school teacher, literacy coach and reading specialist in Gwinnett County for more than 25 years, I am always excited to share my love of literacy with anyone who wants to learn! As you and your child/children prepare for another school year, remember that our goal is always to help them become lifelong learners. Below is a basic guide with questions that will help you engage your reader and enhance his/her comprehension skills. Choose the questions that best suit the age of your child along with the genre he/she is reading. Remember, these questions can be used while reading a paragraph, a short story, a book, a poem, a traditional school text book, fiction, non-fiction etc.
Before Reading
• What do you think this will be about? What makes you think that? • Does this look like it might be fiction or non-fiction? What clues helped you to decide? • Can you think of some interesting words that might appear in this article, book, paragraph etc.? • Look at the table of contents. What types of information will you be learning? • Look at the title of each chapter. What are you curious about?
During Reading
• What are you thinking about/wondering? • Have you ever felt like (character’s name) before? How did you handle it? • Tell me what you like/don’t like so far? • How do you think the story will end? • What does this chart/graph…teach you? Do you understand how to read/interpret it? (non-fiction)
After Reading
• Was there a problem in this story? How was it solved? Could it have been solved another way? How? • What message/big idea do you think the author wanted you to get? What lesson(s) did you learn? Can you show me evidence in the book that supports your thinking? • Does this remind you of something else you have read/seen on TV/read on social media? Tell me about it. • How would things have changed if….? • Would you recommend this book to someone else? Why? Why not? • What are you still wondering about? • How did (character’s name) change from the beginning to the end? • Have you read a story like this before? Tell me about it… • Who are you most like in the story? How?
Teaching kids to read is truly my passion, and I look forward to sharing more tidbits with you in the future! For more information, you can contact me at read2deb@gmail.com.
