PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

Dear Hamilton Mill Residents,

We have a few reminders for you as the weather gets nicer and everyone ventures outside to enjoy the rest of summer… and FALL right around the corner! GOLF CARTS When driving your golf cart throughout the community, please do so with caution. Your safety is our number one priority. Here are some tips to keep in mind for safe driving! 1. Always drive responsibly; arms and legs should always remain in the vehicle and seat belts should always be fastened. 2. Only carry passengers that you have seats for. Do not try to squeeze in extra passengers. 3. Never drive recklessly or joy ride. Be courteous to other drivers and obey vehicle traffic laws and the rules of the road. 4. Avoid distractions while operating your golf cart. Remain attentive and avoid talking, texting, or reading while driving, reaching for objects, applying makeup or eating. 5. Never allow anyone to stand in the vehicle or on the platform located in the back of the vehicle and never put the vehicle in motion until all passengers are safely inside the vehicle and buckled in. 6. Avoid excessive speeds, sudden starts, and stops, and avoid sharp turns at fast speeds. 7. Always yield to pedestrians. BIKE SAFETY There are so many great reasons to ride your bike: It offers fun, freedom and exercise, and it’s good for the environment. We want kids and families to ride their bikes as much as possible. Here are a few tips so that you’ll be safe while you do so. 1. Wear a properly-fitted helmet. It is the best way to prevent head injuries and death. Properlyfitted helmets can reduce the risk of head injuries by at least 45 percent – yet less than half of children 14 and under usually wear a bike helmet. Under Georgia law, bicycle riders 16 years of age or older are not required to wear a helmet. Any bicycle rider under 16 years of age must

6 | HOMETOWN HERALD | September 2020

PROPERTY MANAGEMENT wear a helmet. 2. It is typically safer to ride in the street or bike lane than on the sidewalk. Further, riding on sidewalks is prohibited, statewide, for anyone over the age of 12 unless permitted by specific local ordinance to operate a bicycle on the sidewalk. 3. Use hand signals and follow the rules of the road. Ride in a straight line and don’t swerve between cars. 4. Wear bright colors and use lights, especially when riding at night and in the morning. Reflectors on your clothes and bike will help you be seen. 5. Ride with your children. Stick together until you are comfortable that your kids are ready to ride on their own.

CRAFT CORNER

Stunning Fall Flower Arrangements and Centerpieces

Summer is almost over. I know, I know, I’m sad, too… And while it does mean shorter days, cooler weather, and a whole new back-to-school mood, there’s still plenty to love about the season—like entertaining and time spent with family. Flowers are the easiest way to give your home a seasonal upgrade. FALL FLOWER ARRANGING IDEAS: Peaches and Pinks Think pink can’t work in the fall? That’s a hard no. It’s totally okay to stick with your go-to millennial shade, just make sure you add in extra greens and some browns to make your bouquet feel more rustic for fall. Dried Florals Mix dried florals into your flower arrangement for a moodier feel that gives soft colors just a touch of grit. Pomegranates A pomegranate-hued centerpiece needs fresh pomegranates in it, obviously. To make it feel elegant, add classic candlesticks and a garland for a touch of lushness. Chinese Lanterns If pastel petals don’t do it for you, give these vibrant pods a try. You can even plant this hardy perennial in your yard for a home-grown supply of little lanterns that will beatify all your fall flower arrangements. Pumpkin Vase The perfect bouquet—ranunculus, billy buttons and ferns— needs the perfect container. A white pumpkin should do the trick this season. Just scoop out the inside and hide a waterfilled vase inside. Vibrant Chrysanthemums Mums are basically fall’s version of peonies, and with so many colors, your options are endless. The blooms also symbolize optimism, joy, and longevity—just what your Thanksgiving table needs. Sunflowers Lay your florals flat for a quirky and easy arrangement (but don’t take them out of their water until the last minute). Then scatter some tea light candles for a soft, flickering flow. 16 | HOMETOWN HERALD | September 2020

CRAFT CORNER Maple Leaves Fall foliage looks just as gorgeous in a bouquet as it does on a branch. The colorful leaves create volume, but burgundy amaryllis and peonies pull everything together on a jewel-toned table. Soft and Natural Snap up a blue pumpkin for a different take on the classic jack-o’-lantern. Along with white gourds, eucalyptus, and pine cones, it’ll make even plain white dishes look magical. Dahlias Small and bold varieties of dahlias look lovely lining the center of a long table adorned with metallic accessories. To make the bright blooms feel more fall-friendly, add white pumpkins to your centerpiece. See all of these ideas, get tutorials and more at housebeautiful.com/entertaining/flowerarrangements
