EMPTY NESTERS
RING IN THEIR SPRING FLING! Reunion’s Empty Nesters group gathered at The Meeting House on the evening of April 23rd for their monthly get-together. There is no better way to welcome Spring than with the Empty Nesters—good friends and great conversation! The festive tables were decorated with spring tablecloths and a beautiful spring arrangement. After a lively social period, filled with good stories and just catching up, several announcements were made by Sarah McElwee (co-chair of Empty Nesters), Ron Scroggins (Treasurer) and Merridee Michelson. Merridee, a Broadway aficionado who has produced many Empty Nester productions, has this year adapted the musical MaMa Mia for its Reunion Empty Nester debut, which was scheduled to take place on May 21. Rehearsals with Empty Nester cast members were still taking place as of this writing—and they spent countless hours in rehearsals. Many thanks to Merridee for all she has given to these productions—and to the wonderful Empty Nester volunteer actors who make it all possible! A big THANK YOU to Judy and Don Smith for hosting this “Spring Fling” Empty Nester event. Thanks also to all of those who helped with set-up, contributed all the wonderful food and helped to clean up.
Note: Mea Culpa! We had such a wonderful time at our April Spring Fling, I forgot to take photos for this edition of The Patriot! I’m still trying to fill the big shoes of Don Smith’s excellent monthly reports on our meetings. Instead, we’re including some pretty spring photos of Reunion--although they pale in comparison to the natty springtime attire worn by our members at the April meeting. While I’m groveling, I have another confession: I mentioned in the April issue of The Patriot that the Neighbors of the Year Award was not given in 2020, a mistake on my part. JUNE 2021 Pickleball play really started to increase as spring (and warmer temperatures) arrived. The number of Reunion residents interested in trying this fast growing sport also increased dramatically. By the way, if you’re thinking pickleball is an old-folks game you may interested in knowing that the average age of pickleball players nationally is 38. There were two Beginners Clinics (included a total of ten new Reunion players), and one Intermediate Clinic (with eight of Reunion’s more experienced players) in April. There will be more of the Beginners Clinics scheduled in the coming months because there are currently over 25 Reunion residents who’ve expressed an interest in learning to play. The Pickleball Courts, #5A and 5B, can be reserved on ReserveMyCourt.com for play anytime from 7am – 11pm every day. They are reserved for Open Play most Tuesday and Thursday mornings from either 9–11am or 1–3pm, most Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from 7–9pm, and some Saturday afternoons from 2–5 pm. The days and times of the Open Play schedule may vary, so check the Calendar on the Reunion Pickleball Face Book Page. There are no leagues or teams, we just play matches and have fun. You are invited to come join us and we’ll help you get started.

Keep fire pit at least 10 feet away from any structure or combustible surface.
•
Clear the area of leaves, grass and other debris that may catch fire.
•
Use crumpled paper or a store –bought fire starter covered with a small sticks for burning. Never start a fire with gasoline or lighter fluid.
•
Avoid using pine or cedar as they pop and throw sparks.
•
Keep water nearby or be sure to have quick, easy access to a hose in case the fire gets out of hand.
•
Do not lights fires on windy days or nights
•
Obey local fire bans.
•
Keep children away from fire pits and never leave unattended even after the flames are out as there is still al chance of a child getting burned.
•
