August Landscaping Committee Update July Yard of the Month
August Landscaping Tips Deadhead annuals for more blooms. Now is the time to divide hostas, daylilies, and iris plants. Doing so every 3-4 years will encourage more blooms. Container gardens will require fertilizer this month. Containers may require watering each day due to the August heat. Plant bulbs during August/September. Begin planning your fall plant colors and yard decorations.
Congratulations to Harry & Melissa Hames- 7330 Hedgewood Way. The flowering hydrangeas, colorful caladiums, rock wall, and manicured lawn are picture-perfect.
Continue to put out water for our furry bird friends.
The landscaping committee would like to extend our appreciation to the following homeowners who opened their beautiful gardens to many residents at the inaugural garden tour in July: Holly Williams, Jenny Evans, Natalie Fletcher, and Carol Brody.
Reunion Landscaping Committee Updates Hosted the Inaugural Garden Tour for 75 people touring five gardens. Repaired two irrigation line breaks in Brenau Park. The committee worked with Hall County to repair two disintegrating portions of sidewalks at the front entrance. The first application of the year for pine straw has been completed.

AUGUST 2021 Summer has arrived in Reunion and the heat combined with the Georgia humidity made playing conditions less than ideal. But in spite of that Reunion’s pickleball players continued to play in both the morning and evening Open Play sessions. Plus, many players came to the courts to play matches on their own. The Pickleball Committee began the process of obtaining more pickleball courts for Reunion residents. The initial step was to develop options, followed by contacting potential contractors. They then presented the options and estimated costs of each to the Advisory Committee at their June meeting. The AC then forwarded the information to the Fieldstone-Pulte Board for review. Hopefully, the Board will have made a decision on how to move forward before the deadline for the next Patriot. Stay tuned. Ben Bolden and Mike Giel finished their Pickleball Flex League Play with a record of 3 Wins and 4 Losses. While they didn’t have a winning record, they won 2 of their 3 Level 3.0 matches. They would have certainly made the playoffs if they had not been playing in a combined 3.0 – 3.5 League. The Pickleball Courts, #5A and 5B, can be reserved on ReserveMyCourt.com for play anytime from 7am – 10pm every day. They are reserved for Open Play most Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9am – 11am, most Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm – 9pm, and some Sunday evenings from 6pm – 8pm. The days and times of the Open Play schedule may vary, so check the Calendar on the Reunion Pickleball Face Book Page. Beginners Workshops are conducted some Wednesday evenings from 7 – 9 pm. Participation in these Workshop is limited to Reunion residents interested in learning to play pickleball and specific dates are on the Calendar posted on the Reunion Pickleball Facebook Page.
You can find more information on equipment, court reservations, clinics, lessons, etc. on the Reunion Pickleball Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/reunionpickleball and ReunionHOA.org. Want to join Reunion’s Pickleball Players or Have Questions: Contact us at: ReunionPickleball@gmail.com

EMPTY NESTERS ENJOY SUMMER BREAK TILL AUGUST With a number of conflicts affecting our summer schedule, the Reunion Empty Nesters are taking an early summer break, with regular monthly meetings starting again in August. In the meantime, a few Empty Nester families shared with The Patriot their special trips and that they have either taken or will do so before the end of summer. Sarah & Rod McElwee celebrated their son’s big wedding up in Ohio. Sarah writes: “Our big fun was our son’s wedding in Chagrin Falls, Ohio in June! We are so thrilled and had the best of times. [The] weather was perfect and we are SO excited to have a “new” daughter! It’s another six time zones to Europe, where Kirk and Peg Baldwin visited as their summer travel included trips to Northern Italy, Switzerland, Portugal and Spain. Here they are on the beautiful island of Isola Bella on Lake Maggiore in northern Italy’s Piedmont Region. And even the crazy high gas prices couldn’t hold Ron and Nancy Scroggins from their planned trip out west, which they took in their RV, which has most of the comforts of home (Nancy was cooking eggs and bacon on their four-burner stove when we checked in with them during their stay in Salt Lake City). After seeing more of the Wild West, they headed to the Calgary Stampede in Calgary Alberta, which they have visited before. Ron and Nancy have been all over with their RV, including visiting all the presidential libraries and, after this trip, they will have visited all the National Parks in the United States. Ron says it’s no problem pulling their car behind their RV—although he says you have to leave plenty of room to turn around! Dave & Lisa Altman hosted their daughter Ashley and her two daughters for the month of June as USAF son-in-law Michael prepares for his next assignment in the Tampa area. These two kids enjoyed visiting with their Atlanta area cousins, including Milly, Maggie and Luke McWhorter, who live with parents Bob and Katie on Peacock. Pictured was a back-yard “milkshake break”!
