YARDS Summertime yards need continuing maintenance. Be sure your yard is in tip-top shape by keeping the lawn cut and edged, bushes pruned and beds weeded and mulched. Hard work may even win you the Yard of the Month award!! MAILBOXES The hot summertime sun fades mailbox paint. Take the time to refresh your mailbox and replace any missing numbers: • Mailbox and Post: Must be painted with a Black Satin Finish • Flag: Must be painted in high visible Emergency Red Gloss exterior paint • Reunion Logo/Medallion: Must be painted in a Metallic Antique Gold with a paint marker such as Testers Enamel Markers or American Accents Leafing Pen • Mailbox Numbers: If your numbers need replacing, they should be 2” gold numbers on both sides of the mailbox. EMPTY NESTERS
July can be a busy month in Reunion, with many of our residents fleeing the community to the mountains for cooler weather, heading to the beach, or just lounging by the pool. But not our Empty Nesters! Joanne and Mike Giel invited the “Nesters” to a Summer Picnic and Games Event. The room was decorated with tables befit with red and white checkered tablecloths and mason jars filled with fresh summer bouquets made by Joyce Carey and straight from the garden. The scene was picture perfect - all we needed was grass and the great outdoors; however, most were content with the inside cool air. Once everyone arrived, appetizers were served, and then onward to the picnic food and what picnic would not be complete without fried chicken and hot dogs (famously grilled by Don Dennis)? There was so much scrumptious food all of our plates were packed. As usual, there was a long line at the dessert table.
The fun and laughter began almost immediately. We could tell just how much planning and work went into this event by Mike and Joanne Giel, and their helpers, Susan Eyring and Joyce Carey. Each of the games had multiple participants and there was no lack of contestants.
#2) Head Band Word: Guess Game This game was very unusual and apparently made famous by Ellen DeGeneres. The point was for a seated person to where the head band with a clue that they couldn’t see, and their partner had to give them clues for them to guess the word. This was a very challenging, but fun game, with many winners of FABULOUS prizes. #3.) To Tell The Truth: Four of our Empty Nester Veteran’s presented stories from their days in the military. They were: Gary Hodges, Gary Sczwast, Dennis Dwyer, and Kirk Baldwin. The winner was Irene Speakman for guessing the truthful Veteran, Dennis Dwyer who is a Retired Marine Captain, who served in Vietnam. His truth was that he Jimmy Stewart, as his son was in the Marines. I hope I have that right Dennis. To all of our Veterans who have served in the military, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! #1) Wheel of Fortune: Joanne was the Master of Ceremony, with Susan Eyring playing the role of Vanna White. Multiple rounds were played, and from one of the losers, it isn’t as easy as it looks. Three winners took home some “Fabulous” prizes! Peg Baldwin who won 1st prize, won a Boat and an SUV! Rebecca Hagler, who won 2nd prize won a Sports Car, and Gerry Ofsharick, who came in 3rd place, won Lawn Darts! All TOYS, of course, but FABULOUS, nonetheless!!!

Pickleball interest in Reunion continues to grow by leaps and bounds – or pickleball players might say by dinks and volleys. In July, US Pickleball Association Ambassador Susan Chambers led one Beginners Clinic, two Intermediate Clinics and one Youth Camp. The Beginners Clinic was the third this summer, while the two Clinics for Intermediate Players were the first as was the Youth Camp for Junior Players under 18 years of age. Less than a year ago a few Empty Nesters started playing pickleball, they were soon joined by interested adults, and now Reunion players include youth/juniors. Like across America, pickleball in Reunion has become the fastest growing sport you’ve never heard of!!
