Reunion has a fun Halloween tradition called ‘BOO-ing’. Maybe you’ve seen the ‘Ghosts’ in the windows of your neighbors’ homes. It’s a fun way to get the kids & the whole . . neighborhood excited about Halloween. How do you do it?? You secretly set a Halloween basket of treats (along with a ghost to display in the window and an explanation sheet) at your neighbor’s door…then…ring the doorbell and RUN!! Each house that is BOOed does the same for two more neighbors and the fun continues throughout the neighborhood. (ghosts & explanation sheets are available in the Meeting House)

Community News The Empty Nesters celebrated the 52nd anniversary of the Woodstock Festival (August 1969). This FAR OUT event was hosted by Maria (Lady Sunshine) & Alan Turk, and Merridee (Merri Mischief) & Ken Michelsen. Most attendees arrived sporting their “hippie” fashions to rooms decked out in flowers, banners, tie dye tablecloths and posters created by Maria. There was even a “Love Bug VW Van” photo op for all, with the help of Bill Wood, resident photographer. Glenn Rush set up an original video of Woodstock playing in the background. He also managed both the music of the times and the Woodstock trivia & “Name that Tune” game, which was won by Jack Sposa, Tom McDermott, Bill Humble, Dorothy Peterson, Fran Bridwell & Liz Rush. Other prizes were given for: Most humorous food title – won by Karen Exposito for her “Gimme some skin pot-atoes” Best costume – won by Rodney Smith who really outdid himself and was hardly recognized Most buttons of the time – won by Joanne Giel with buttons galore on her hat One of the highlights of the evening was the appearance of a celebrity guest, CHER (Joanne Giel) who sang the sultry “Fernando” (to a very surprised Don Dennis). Fernando was a come-back hit in “MaMaMia Here We Go Again”. Cher was accompanied by her back-up chorus, and members of the cast of “MaMaMia” (Sue Dennis, Maria Turk, Fran Bridwell, Peggy Reiland, Merridee Michelsen, Karen Esposito, Michelle Larson & Loretta Summerville). The Empty Nesters version of “MaMaMia” will run sometime next year – stay tuned for further information on this amazing and joyful show.
A short business meeting was held and Joanne Giel read a poignant “Thank You” from John Marshall with respect to his dear wife passing (JoEllen) and the Celebration of Life gathering held in her honor. She was greatly loved and is missed by all who knew her. A hearty “THANK YOU” to the Turks & Michelsens for such an OUT OF SIGHT gathering. Special thanks to all who helped with the set up/clean up. A GROOVY time was had by all who attended!

OCTOBER 2021 Reunion’s pickleball courts are less than 6 months old, yet some of its players participated in the Chateau Elan Pickleball Series 3 Tournament on Aug. 21 and 22. Amanda Gambill and Christy Butler competed in the Women’s Doubles 3.0 and finished in the top 10. Ben Bolden and Dustin Rivera did likewise in the Men’s Doubles 4.0, while Ben and Sherry Johnson finished in the Top 8 of the Mixed Doubles 4.0 Division. The Pickleball courts are reserved for open play every Tuesday & Thursday morning from 9–11 am. The Courts are also available for Open and Family play some weekday and Sunday evenings; however, specific days and times vary. Please be on the lookout for Emails and check the Reunion Pickleball Facebook page for days and times. There are no leagues or teams, we just play matches and have fun. Paddles and balls are available, so come join us and we’ll help you get started. Courts can also be reserved for individual play at ReserveMyCourt.com.
