EMPTY NESTERS A STUNNING SATURDAY NIGHT
As the sounds of Dueling Piano partiers echoed from the Clubhouse across the parking lot, there was a different kind of crowd noise coming from the Meeting House, as a group of Empty Nesters gasped at the sound of Taser needles hitting a cardboard target. Many of the group described the Home Security meeting as one of the more interesting and important of the group’s monthly programs, this one organized by Kathy & Jack Sposa. Special guest Rodney L. Smith, Founder and Training Director at Georgia Firearms and Security Training Academy (known as “GAFASTA”), provided a dynamic and memorable presentation of how Reunion residents can prepare to keep both themselves and their homes safe. Rodney covered everything from how to make our homes safer to the basics of self-defense, including the importance of locking your doors and having an alarm system to how to handle an ‘active shooter’ situation and what rights you have to defend yourself. Big themes: always be prepared, be situationally aware and get trained! Rodney, a Reunion resident, was joined by colleagues from U.S. LawShield, who provided helpful information on the complex web of legal and courtroom issues surrounding self-defense. Nearly 40 residents were entertained by demonstrations of how tasers and stun guns work. As the lights were lowered, Empty Nesters left their seats and scrambled toward the walls before our guest speakers set off the stun guns and then the tasers (a loud and unforgettable moment). Later, residents had the chance to purchase or signup for other products and services including high-end tactical flashlights that also had a built-in stun gun. As usual, the evening was full of great food and fellowship and the Nesters were so captivated by Rodney Smith and his colleagues’ program that (until they walked outside) were virtually unaware of the Dueling Pianos musical celebration going on across the street. Two groups of Reunion residents having (very different) kinds of fun on the same Saturday night!

Skills include introduction to front/back kicks, blowing bubbles, breath control, underwater exploration, front/back glide, kick & arm strokes. 10:45-11:25am Introduction to Water Skills and Fundamental Aquatic Skills - Learn basics of swimming including holding breath underwater, supported &unsupported front/back float, flutter kicking, alternating arm strokes front/ back, coordinated arm strokes.
10:00-10:45am Stroke Development - Skills include jumping in deep water, retrieving an object from the bottom, rotary breathing, front/back glide for distance, body position in deep water, front/back crawl, elementary backstroke & butterfly kick. 10:45-11:25am Stroke Improvement and Stroke Refinement - Skills include long glide, swimming underwater, open turns and flip turns from wall, front/back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, elementary backstroke, surface dives, swim all strokes.
