EMPTY NESTERS
THE MOVIES COME TO EMPTY NESTERS Over the years, the members of the Empty Nester group of Reunion Country Club have never been hesitant to strike out on road trips in search of fun and entertainment. There have been outings to tailgate and watch baseball games at Cool Ray Field in Gwinnett County. Many of the group has season tickets to enjoy the very talented student thespians involved in Gainesville High School Theatre. When something of merit arises on the agenda, it is not uncommon for the Empty Nester group to venture northward to Dahlonega for entertainment at the historic Holly Theater. Empty Nesters are a common fixture at The Great Escape movie house in the Hamilton Mill area. Co-hosts for the month of May Empty Nester event, Nancy & Ron Scroggins, Loretta & Jon Summerville and Gail & Ted Sawyer, decided to do something “out of the box” and bring the movies to the Empty Nesters rather than the other way around. With the aid of a HUGE portable movie screen and a computerized projector along with some seating innovation, the cohosts were able to turn The Reunion Meeting House into a miniature cinema on the evening of May 18th for the presentation of the Clint Eastwood movie, “Mule”.

The “special” at the Concession Stand on movie nite was grilled hotdogs, provided by the hosts, along with appetizers, side items and desserts contributed by members of the Empty Nester group. As usual, the food was abundant and tantalizingly delicious. There was an over supply of hotdogs and plentiful portions of complimentary offerings such as deviled eggs, potato salad, baked beans and more along with cakes, pies and cookies to whet the sweet tooth. As a crowning touch and to add to the ambience of the event, Fran Bridwell took it on herself to fire up the popcorn popper to provide the traditional movie viewer snack (along with the aroma that goes with it). Many thanks go to Nancy & Ron, Loretta & Jon and Gail & Ted for a truly unique Empty Nester experience. Thanks also, as always, to the indispensible worker bees who so unselfishly contributed the work of setting up for the event and cleaning up afterward. Everything gelled perfectly to result in a wonderful night of fun, fellowship and entertainment.
