Association NEWS

DID You KNOW?

Monthly friendly advice for our Reunion neighbors about covenants issues & guidelines Before our reminder about mailbox upkeep, the Covenants’ Committee would like to applaud our residents that have faithfully maintained their properties in all areas. It is only because of your efforts in following the Guidelines that our community continues to be rated one of the most desirable in Hall and neighboring counties. Mailbox inspections are the focus of August’s covenants objective so if you are already aware that yours is in need of restoration, replacement, or painting, it would be good to move forward on those projects prior to receiving a violation notification. Listed in The Patriot are persons who specialize in mailbox repairs and come recommended by neighbors who have used their services. As a reminder, mailboxes must be black in color, must have clear numbers visible from the street that meet covenants qualifications, have hinged doors, and are attached to proper posts – free of rust or fade. To reiterate the Declaration of Protective Covenants distributed to every homeowner upon the closing of your home (or passed on from the owner to any renters):

4

Page 16: No mailboxes and apparent posts and/or structures shall be erected without the proper written approval of the Board or its designee. Generally, the forgoing must be of the same type and color as that originally installed by the Declarant or its affiliates. The Covenants’ Committee took the month of July off to attend to family and personal holiday plans. As a reminder these neighbors donate their time and energy to this task – they are not paid nor have they received any incentive other than knowing that their efforts help to keep Reunion a safe and beautiful place to live. We hope that you are having a wonderful summer – Your Covenants Committee Members The Covenants Committee is comprised of dedicated volunteers who do not make HOA rules, but simply monitor the community to make certain that all who live here follow the regulations that you were made aware of at the time of your purchase. We aim to keep Reunion the pristine neighborhood it is just as other committees strive to oversee the pool, social life, safety, and the Meeting House agendas.

Association NEWS Fifty-seven members of the Reunion Country Club Empty Nester group gathered at The Meeting House on the evening of June 15th to celebrate an early welcoming of the summer season. As requested by the hosts of the event, attendees showed up in all manner of vacation, beach and summertime attire. Straw hats, brilliantly colored Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses were only a few of the prominent items of garb on display for the night. Hosts for the “Fun in the Sun” event were Donna & Jerry Smith, Sue & Scot Smith and Bette & Gary Hodges. They did an outstanding job of planning and coordinating a fun filled and very active night for the enjoyment of the Empty Nester group starting, of course, with food. Members in attendance were asked to bring entrees, appetizers and desserts that are generally associated with the picnics and cookouts of summer. In response, there was a plentiful offering of fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw and other yummy summer time foods along with tasty desserts.

Empty Nesters Ready for Summertime

“Fun in the Sun”

The evening began with a social period during which time members of the group mingled and visited with one another. Attendees were encouraged to pose for photographs in front of a summer themed, beach scene backdrop which served as the “photo booth”. The group shared a lot of fun and laughter in admiring the various choices of summertime fashion on display. At the end of the evening, Danna Lowery was awarded best costume for her cross country hiking attire. Entertainment for the night came in two forms. First of all, the hosts challenged the group with a form of “name that tune” in which snippets of 15 songs having to do with summer were played. The individuals of the group were awarded one point for each song title recognized and one additional point for naming the artist or group that performed the song. The winner of that competition, with an ear for the music, was John Marshall. The final, and most exciting (and humorous), competition of the evening was the hula hoop contest. Various members of the group came forward to see who could best recall and recreate their hula hoop skills of old to keep the hoop in action for the longest period of time. Judy Smith was the proud winner of that competition as she performed rings (pun intended) around the other hoopsters. Many thanks go to the hosts of “Fun in the Sun” for their hard work and imagination in putting the event together and providing so much fun and laughter to the Empty Nester group. The usual thanks go to the worker bees that so faithfully help with set up for the events and assist with clean up afterward. Of course, no Empty Nester event would be the same without the wonderful and dependably delicious culinary offerings that everyone looks forward to each month. August 2019

Tips for Students:

Tips for Drivers: • Prepare to stop when a s bus has its overhead yellow lights flashing • Always stay in sight of the bus driver • Stop at least 20 feet away for buses when red lights are flashing • Don’t hurry off the bus; check traffic first • Slow down in or near school and residential areas • Don’t go back to the bus after exiting • Watch for children between parked cars and other objects

With school back in full swing, it’s more important than ever to practice school bus safety!

Know the Law. Obey the law. On average, each school bus is illegally passed once every day. According to the NHTSA, 21 children under the age of 19 die every year as pedestrians getting on and off buses.

Makes this a civil offense, resulting in a fine of $300.00 for the first offense, $750.00 for the second offense, and $1,000.00 for the third offense, within a five year period.

Allows the revenue from these tickets to be shared with school systems.

Exempts the bus driver from the burden of reporting violations leaving them to focus on the children.

On average, each school bus is illegally passed once every day.

The new law does not replace the existing law that allows law enforcement to issue tickets resulting in up to $1,000 fine, up to 6 points on driving record, and a mandatory court appearance if caught illegally passing a stopped school bus.

Ticket will be issued to the owner of the vehicle that illegally passed a school bus.

Allows stop arm cameras to be placed on the outside of school buses to capture images of motorist illegally passing.

here’s what the new law does:

On July 1st, 2011 a new law went into effect, that will have a dramatic impact on keeping our children safe when loading and unloading school buses.

FRUIT SALSA & CINNAMON CHIPS INGREDIENTS *Fruit Salsa* 16 ounces strawberries diced 2 kiwi peeled and diced 1/2 cup blueberries 1/2 cup raspberries 3 tablespoons sugar-free apricot preserves or jam *Cinnamon Chips* 4 flour tortillas I used soft taco size cooking spray 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon INSTRUCTIONS Preheat oven to 350Âş F. Cover a large baking sheet with parchment paper. On a large plate, combine the sugar and cinnamon. Spray each tortilla front and back and carefully lay on the plate, one at a time. Move around lightly to get the cinnamon and sugar to adhere to the tortilla, then flip coating the other side. With a pizza cutter, cut cinnamon and sugar tortilla in half and then each half into four pieces, creating 8 slices per tortilla. Spread out on the baking sheet. Repeat with all tortillas and then place in the oven for 8-10 minutes. Pull baking sheet from oven and set aside to cool. Meanwhile, combine the fruit and the preserves in a medium sized bowl. Serve with cooled cinnamon chips and enjoy! Source: www.iheartnaptime.net/fruit-salsa-cinnamon-chips
