GARAGE SALE SAFETY TIPS
It’s getting close to the Spring Garage Sale in Reunion! Besides getting all of your junky-to-funky items ready, take a minute to read these Safety Tips so your day is a wonderful success. Setting Up the Sale • Keep all like items together as much as possible. Clothing in one area, children’s toys in another, household items in yet another area will help you keep a mental picture of your inventory as your sale progresses. • Place expensive items close to you where you can keep an eye on them. This may be where you have your cash table set up. • Remove items from their boxes and display them. It makes your sale look more interesting, but more importantly you can keep an eye on all your items. • It’s a good idea to fold up appliance cords and use a rubber band or tape to attach the cord to the unit. It’s also a good idea to have an extension cord or batteries on hand to let the buyer check to see that the item works. • Display hazardous or breakable items out of children’s reach. • You should have old newspaper and plastic bags handy to wrap up and bag breakable objects. During the Sale • Pictures can be a great inventory and security aid. Take pictures of your items and print off an inventory sheet. Once you or your helpers sell something, you can “X” it off the sheet. • Have two people working the Garage Sale at all times. One can manage the cash while another schmoozes the buyers. It also provides for bathroom breaks, etc. • You should greet everyone to let them know that you have seen them and are ready to answer questions. • Always be alert for distractions. Sometimes thieves work in pairs. One distracts you while the other pockets your kid’s game console. • Always lock all of the doors to your home. DO NOT under any circumstances let anyone in your home - FOR ANY REASON! • Make sure your Garage Sale doesn’t look deserted between shoppers. Always be visible in your sale area. • Don‘t give out your phone number. If someone wants to check later in the day to see if an item is still available, get their number instead. • HAVE YOUR CELL PHONE ON YOU AT ALL TIMES, IN CASE YOU NEED TO CALL FOR HELP.
April 2016
Handling Cash • It’s a good idea to have one designated cashier, so no prospective buyers can claim that they paid someone else. • Your cash box should have enough small bills and coins to last the first hour. Once you start selling things, there will be more than enough to make change. • To simplify making change, you might think about pricing everything a minimum of $0.25 and in multiples of $0.25. • If you decide to use a cash box, make sure it is locked, secured to the table, and monitored at all times. Another option is to use a fanny pack. • As you start to take in money, put portions inside your home every half hour or so. • When a person is making a purchase, leave the bill out in plain view while you make change. Put it under a paper weight to keep it from blowing away.
DURING THE SALE • Have two people working the Garage Sale at all times. • Always lock the doors to your home. DO NOT let anyone in for any reason.

Association NEWS
In an effort to chase away winter and urge the coming of spring, a number of the Reunion Empty Nesters group members gathered on February 20th for an old fashioned, southern picnic (indoors at The Meeting House, of course). With members encouraged to bring traditional picnic food items to share with the group, tables were filled with fried chicken (naturally), potato salad, baked beans and other familiar “dinner on the ground” delicacies along with a wide variety of dessert dishes. The entertainment for the evening was a live auction. Members donated items from their homes that were no longer in use to be auctioned off at the event. Following the theory of one person’s junk being another person’s treasure, a wide array of items were available for auction. Jack Ofsharick served a dual role as auctioneer/standup comedian as he efficiently obtained the highest bid for each available item and kept the audience rolling in the aisles in the process. While some people picked up some tremendous bargains at the auction, everyone had a fun filled night of almost constant laughter. The event was hosted by Joyce Carey, Carolyn Notheis and Laura Baker with set up assistance from a number of the group’s membership. This was the first event of its kind with the Empty Nester group and it was received with excellent reviews. Great job, ladies, for a well run, nicely planned and very enjoyable Empty Nester event.

Don & Sandy Wages 6025 Grand Reunion Drive Congratulations to Don and Sandy Wages of 6025 Grand Reunion Dr. While everyone else is ordering mulch and trying to add some early spring color to their lawns, the Wages already have those bases covered. The wrought iron bench is a nice touch also and the backyard of this property is just crazy beautiful! Hence, your 'Winner winner chicken dinner' March Yard of the Month. Congrats!
