EMPTY NESTERS SHARE THEIR HERITAGE The Empty Nester group of Reunion Country Club gathered at The Meeting House on the evening of November 20th for their monthly get together. The theme of the November soirée was “Gratitude for our Diversity” which was the brain child of hostess and host Jimmie and Jim Mikoy and their assistants Merridee and Ken Michelsen. The Empty Nesters arrived to find The Meeting House festively decorated with multicolored table cloths and miniature flags of almost, if not every, country in the world. Anchoring the small table flags was an American flag which was a collage of other countries. As Jimmie Mikoy reminded everyone, American is a conglomeration of other parts of the world. After the usual social period and a tasty and varied buffet of covered dishes there was a short business meeting in which Rosemarie Wood confirmed the incoming Empty Nester Board Members for the coming year. Sarah & Rod McElwee will be the new co-chairs of the group with Ron Scroggins remaining on an additional year as Treasurer and Merridee Michelsen taking the reins as Secretary while Dave Altman will be taking over as Print Coordinator and Historian for the group. Then the fun began. Jimmie Mikoy led the group in a world geographic trivia contest which elicited moans and groans from the audience for its simplistic difficulty. It became obvious how easily we forget things about our surrounding countries that we know we should remember. At the end of the quiz period it was clear that Tom McDermott had the better grasp of world geography as he took home the first place prize. This was followed by an open floor session with Empty Nester members standing to share their heritage; as in where their families originally came from and any stories or information about their Family Tree that they might know. There was a mixture of tales about family genealogy ranging from funny to informative to tear jerking. It was an entertaining and educational evening that represented “thinking outside the box” in the theme and presentation of the event. Many thanks go the Jimmie and Jim for hosting the night’s activities and the Merridee and Ken for their assistance. No one would have guessed, but it was Jimmie and Jim’s first time hosting an Empty Nester event. They did an excellent job! Thanks also go to all who contributed food for the enjoyment of the group and to the worker bees that helped with set up and decoration of the facility for the festivities.

Reunion Round Robin Tournament / Mixer Reunion Pickleball started in October 2020 and the Committee held a Round Robin Doubles Tournament / Mixer on November 6 to celebrate our first anniversary. Twenty-four players gathered to play some pickleball, meet new players, get some exercise, socialize, enjoy a few snacks, and simply have a good time playing this fun sport. Christy Butler, Dave & Kristy Copous, Joe & Michelle Corvacho, Amanda Gambill, Mike Giel, Tim Haddon, Gary Hodges, Lorraine Horner, Kathy Kiwert, Tom McDermott, Jack Ofsharick, Ann Owensby, Walt Piedrahita, Steve & Adriana Schoonover, Ron Scroggins, Tracey Shelton, Larry & Allyson Smith, Jenni Stancill, Taylor Tuttle, and Shirley Weaver Water was provided and all the players brought an appetizer or desert to share. Everyone was very generous and there was certainly more than enough food. The format allowed every player the opportunity to play several matches without playing with the same partner twice or playing against the same team. While there were a few organizational glitches, almost everyone had an enjoyable time and are looking forward to the next one. Prizes were awarded to: (1) the team with the greatest number of consecutive dinks: Shirley Weaver and Dave Copous; (2) the player with highest number of shots into a designated target area: Taylor Tuttle; (3) player with the most even numbered scores: Tracey Shelton; and the most unique food item: Shirley Weaver (brought Pickleball cookies to share).
