March 2022 The January weather did not favor Reunion Pickleball players. There was some snow, but a whole bunch of cold days so once again the Drill Based Clinics were canceled to be rescheduled in February. Some of the hardier players continued to play at the Tuesday and Thursday Morning Open Play Sessions and few of the very, very hardy players came to the evening sessions. The Pickleball courts are reserved for open play most Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 10am-noon, some weekday evenings from 7-9pm, and some Sunday evenings; however, specific days/ times vary, so check the Calendar on the Reunion Pickleball Facebook Page. There are no leagues or teams, we just play matches and have fun. You are invited to come join us. We’ll help you get started. You can find more information on equipment, court reservations, clinics, lessons, etc. on the Reunion Pickleball Facebook page: www.facebook.com/groups/reunionpickleball; the community Facebook pages, the Reunion Website and Emails. Want to join Reunion’s Pickleball Players or Have Questions, contact: ReunionPickleball@gmail.com

Sunday, March 20 from 4:00-6:00pm in the Meeting House $175 per swimmer ($150 each additional child)

EMPTY NESTERS EXCHANGE “GIFTS” On the night of January 15th, a group of the Reunion Country Club Empty Nesters gathered for their first event of the New Year. With winter storm warnings being in effect the number of members in attendance was a bit low, but those in who braved the upcoming anticipated blizzard came ready for a fun evening. After the usual social period as members began to flow into The Meeting House, co-chairs Sarah and Rod McElwee made some welcoming statements and announcements before inviting the members present to help themselves to the buffet of various appetizers, entrees, side dishes and desserts. As is always the case, the food was in abundance and was predictably delicious. As the Empty Nesters were completing their meals, Sarah led the group in a short business meeting during which she went over the budget and reminded everyone of annual dues payment. Everyone recognized Rosemarie and Bill Wood for their outstanding contribution to the group as out going co-Chairs and Kathy Sposa was given the appreciation of the group for her duties and hard work as out going Secretary. Prior to the meeting, Sarah and Rod had asked members planning to attend to bring with them some unwanted or un-needed gift to contribute to a White Elephant Gift Exchange. Everyone who brought a “gift” for exchange was given a number. When a member’s number was called they had the option of selecting a “gift” from the table of mystery or being allowed to “steal” a gift already selected by another attendee. The array of “gifts” ranged from wildly hilarious to seriously useful. At any rate, the reactions of the group and the imagination behind some of the exchanged items brought roars of laughter throughout the night. It, once again, proved that an entertainment theme for an Empty Nester function does not have to be elaborate in order to be enjoyable. Many thanks go to Sarah and Rod along with Rosemarie and Bill for putting the events of the evening together. The usual thanks go to everyone who brought food for the mutual enjoyment of the group. No Empty Nester event would be complete without the manual efforts of those who helped set up for the meeting and those that helped to clean up afterward. As you can see, the Empty Nesters are a fun bunch and a social club made up of residents here in the Reunion community. If you are interested in joining the group, please email reunionemptynesters@gmail.com.

Reunion Spring Garden Tour will be held Saturday, March 12 at 10 AM in the Meeting House. Email Carol Brody for details. reunionlandcape@gmail.com All Reunion residents are invited to attend this event planning meeting.

Begins in April

Sow Some Seeds This Year Starting garden plants from seeds indoors can be an enjoyable project for kids of all ages. Many garden favorites are found in a greater variety of colors, sizes as seeds, rather than as started plants. Enthusiastic gardeners can hardly wait to get those seeds into the ground, but you must keep one eye on the calendar – March weather in North Georgia is tricky. Planting too early can mean the seeds get killed off by a hard frost. That's what starting seeds indoors is all about: a way to jump-start your spring garden without risk that a later frost will wipe out your seedlings. As a general rule, most seeds should be sown indoors about six weeks before the last frost. An egg carton seed tray and toilet paper rolls are free and reusing materials that is good for the environment as they decompose in the soil.
