Missing Street Signs A reminder from Kathy, your Association Manager Recently, it has become evident that street signs, including “Children at Play signs, have been intentionally removed from their installed location. This is both a hazardous and costly form of vandalism. Signs replacements can cost a few hundred to a few thousand dollars each.

NOT using these posts to display advertisements (lost pets, garage sale signs, etc.). Adhesive from tape, glue and other products damages the paint and finish of these signs and posts, and causes the posts to become unsightly and age prematurely.

Sign replacements have been installed. It is my hope that residents continue to take an active role in monitoring activity within the community, Community members can utilize Facebook and in their immediate areas. Please do not hesito post lost pets, items for sale, etc. to a much tate to report directly to Flowery Branch Police larger overall audience. Also, please note that Department (770-531-6788) any suspicious our community guidelines do not allow for indiactivity, at any time. vidual yard sales outside of the two established Also, please help in keeping these signs/posts for our community per year (Spring / Fall). looking their best for as long as possible by Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Tennis Committee Update As most Sterling on the Lake Tennis Players may be aware, there have been many changes that have occurred over the course of the summer to the Tennis Committee. More information will be coming in the next few months, but until everything is finalized, below are a few issues that

might be of immediate concern to any residents that play tennis here at Sterling on the Lake. Our current Tennis Committee members are: Scott Elston (Committee Chair), Jamie Floyd, Daniel Matus, and Renee Adams.

Facebook: The SOTL Tennis Facebook page will be changing in the upcoming weeks. If you were Facebook friends with the previous/old page, that page is no longer affiliated with the community’s Tennis Committee or programs at Sterling on the Lake. Tennis Groups Page: Our website has been updated to include updated Tennis Groups Page! If you were a previous user of this group, your user information has been reactivated so that you can seamlessly access the information. The Tennis Groups Page includes tennis documents, a calendar, Pro contact information and more. Court Scheduler: Several residents have inquired on how to use the Court Scheduler, and how to update information and reserve court time. The court scheduler is available online www.sterlingonthelake.tennisbookings.com Lost passwords can be automatically requested from the site to assist you with logging in. The main page of our court scheduler, click “Forgot Password”. On the secondary page, enter your username or email address associated with your account. An email from the site will be automatically sent to you. If you are having trouble logging in, please contact Scott Elston, Tennis Chair via email at Tennis@Sterling-Life.com. 10

September/October

Tennis Shots Updated Contact Information is important! Once you are logged in to the court scheduler, please periodically update your personal information by visiting your Profile. Keeping your information the most up-to-date will help the Tennis Committee communicate upcoming events, opportunities, lessons and more! When you make updates to the court scheduler, don’t forget to also update your user profile on www.Sterling-Life.com! ALTA Team Captains: If you are a captain of a Fall ALTA tennis team, please contact Scott Elston as soon as possible. He will need your team roster so that he can collect any non-resident fees that may be assessed and make sure the courts are scheduled accordingly for the upcoming season of play. Unauthorized Soccer on Courts: There have been several complaints regarding a group of boys/men playing soccer on the tennis courts. This problem is being addressed and signs are in place at the courts stating that the courts are for tennis use only. If any resident observes anyone using the courts for an activity other than tennis, politely ask them to leave. If they refuse, please call Flowery Branch Police Department Dispatch at 770-531-6788. For any other resident questions or concerns, please direct your emails to the Tennis Committee at Tennis@Sterling-Life.com. The Tennis Committee appreciates your patience as they transition into their new roles and work to make sure the Sterling on the Lake Tennis Community is well represented and our program offerings continue smoothly.

Our Sterling on the Lake Sunday Ladies Team (Level B3) have just become Alta City Champions!

Warm congratulations to our neighbors in their achievement! Lake Living Highlights

The one that got away... After weeks of attempting to catch the fish that stole his bait and got away, our neighbor Jimmy was overjoyed to hook this 4+ foot species of carp in the lake. While this fish is not the original thief of his bait, it was surely one not to miss taking a photo with! Carp can grow large and are strong fighters on a rod and reel fishing pole, and are mainly vegetarians here at Sterling on the Lake, helping us control lake vegetation. They are wary and can be quite difficult to catch. Jimmy had success with this carp and some of its friends by using bread; these fish also like corn.

Fishing Camp... Our first fishing camp this summer was a success, with a full roster of campers aged 5-8 years old! Campers had a great time learning about our lakes & trails, conservation, animal life and so much more from Mr. Robby (our lake Biologist). Among crafts, hands –on learning activities (such as water quality testing) and art projects… there was (of course!) FISHING!

Fishing with friends... Will and Jack unexpectedly played the game of chance (and won) while they were out fishing this summer! Catching a 14lb.+ large mouth bass made amazing memories for them, but after releasing him back into the lake … and catching him again made event better memories!

1pm - 8pm Saturday, October 18th For more festival and event information, visit www.HarvestBalloonFestival.com

About Our Beneficiaries Sterling on the Lake would like to invite you to be a part of its 5th annual Harvest Balloon Festival on Saturday, October 18, 2014. This festival along with our previous Pumpkin Festivals has been giving back to local and national charities for the past 8 years and has raised “and donated” over $100,000 to families and animals in need. We are incredible proud of the funds raised, especially during these tough economic times. The proceeds from the 2014 Harvest Balloon Festival at Sterling on the Lake will be shared between two charities - Challenged Child and friends, Inc., a local nonprofit in Hall County serving children with disabilities through educational, therapeutic, nursing and family counseling services, and the Hall County Animal Shelter, Hall County Governments’s first full-service animal shelter with over 300 kennels that comfortably house about 8,000 animals each year. While the purpose of the festival couldn’t be more serious, the festival itself is a celebratory community event, incorporating good old-fashioned outdoor fun and family participation. Festival goers enjoy traditional family favorites and new fall activities while supporting worthy causes. Our Beneficiaries: Challenged Child and Friends Founded in 1985, Challenged Child and Friends is a 501c(3) non-profit organization located in Gainesville, Georgia on a 15 acre campus. They serve children with disabilities and their typical peers through state-of-the-art educational, therapeutic, nursing and family counseling services in an integrated environment. www.challengedchild.org Hall County Animal Shelter Hall County Government’s first full-service animal shelter opened in October 2009. The shelter has over 300 kennels that comfortably house about 8,000 animals each year. www.animalshelter.hallcounty.org If your company or business is able to support this event, even with a small donation or in-kind donations (cases of water, food for volunteers, etc.) Please let us know! We are also still seeking crafters/artisans and direct sales companies that would like to join the festival. If you are interested in aligning your business with this amazing event, please email us at Activites@Sterling-Life.com for more details! 20

Did you know? The University of California conducted a survey where MRI scans showed that a typical backpack places heavy compression on the discs and increases curvature of the spine. Heavy backpacks could cause permanent damage. “We see kids complaining of back problems, shoulder problems, and we are seeing more Scoliosis in the teenage years.”

Chiropractic care is uniquely suited to help this condition. In our office, we are committed to the health of children and offer
