Association Manager’s Corner
The Manager's Message
I would like to thank all the residents that were able to attend the 2019 Annual meeting. The 2019 achievements and 2020 plans were presented to the residents at this gathering. The residents have let the Board know that they would like more communication to on the Association’s status and plans. With this the plans are going to be implemented in 2020. First, the monthly board meetings will be moved to the theater in the clubhouse to allow residents that would like to attend the meeting the opportunity to do so. The January Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 9th at 3:30. The first 15 minutes of the meeting is open for residents to bring any concerns that they may have to the Board. After this time, the meeting will be closed, and the Board meeting will begin. Residents are permitted to stay; but they may not speak on any of the subjects that are on the meeting’s agenda. Future meetings dates will be placed on the new Sterling-Life website. Board will be holding two townhalls in 2020. The first will be held on January 16, at 6:30 at Prince of Peace. At this meeting they will discuss the Spout Springs expansion plans, the transition process and will answer questions from the residents that have been submitted in writing prior to the meeting. Our second townhall will be in July this is to provide the homeowners an update on the community’s status. Welcome to our new board member Ned Murray. Ned is a resident of the Alcove section of our community. He has a background in the environmental industry. He is looking forward to helping the community as we move forward to the transition from developer to resident control.

Resident Volunteer Opportunities within
Sterling on the Lake
Are you looking to volunteer in order to make a difference in your community? Sterling on the Lake Homeowner Advisory Committee, H.A.C, is always looking for residents willing to donate some time to help maintain this wonderful community that we all love and enjoy so much! The H.A.C. is comprised of five distinct committees, each serving an aspect of the community. Each committee meets monthly and works closely with the Property Management Team and reports back to the Board of Directors via the H.A.C. chairperson. Each committee is comprised of residents who are committed and invested in gaining knowledge and sharing that knowledge in how the community operates.
THESE 6 COMMITTEES ARE:
New Golf Cart Signage The association has new signs that have been erected within the community regarding golf carts. In November 2018, the City of Flower Branch passed an ordinance regarding the use of golf carts on city streets. The signs indicate that registered golf carts can be driven on the Sterling on the Lake’s streets. The Flowery Branch ordinance requires all golf carts are to be registered with the city. Please contact the City of Flowery Branch to register your golf cart. The golf carts are only to be driven by licensed drivers. No one under the age of 17 are permitted to drive carts on the city streets. All carts are to be insured and they must have the required street legal equipment to be compliance with the ordinance. Please access the Flowery Branch government website to review this ordinance and to register your golf cart.

Volunteer Opportunities
Looking for opportunities to give back to your community, meet new people and/or log some volunteer hours? One of these opportunities may be for you!
FOR YOUTH AND ADULTS: Good News at Noon is an organization which hosts many local friends in need for meals 7 days a week, 365 days a year. All the meals are prepared, donated, and served by various churches or groups. There is currently a need to provide lunches for about 30 people on Saturday/Sunday. There may also be a few weekday slots open. This is an ideal volunteer opportunity for a family or teams of 4-6 people. Meals can be as simple as an entrée casserole, vegetable, fruit, bread and dessert. Good News is also a Men’s Homeless Shelter and Christian Ministry located just off Queen City Parkway (Hwy. 985, exit 20) on the Flowery Branch side of Gainesville. For additional information about the organization and volunteer opportunities, please visit www. goodnewsatnoon.org. If you are interested in being a part of this ministry in any way, you may contact Sterling resident Sandra Henderson at sandrahen@bellsouth. net or 770-262-7850 (call/text). Homeless Hookups meets in Sterling approximately 3-4 times per month. Some sessions are open to adults only, while others are youth friendly.Volunteers learn to fold, cut & loop plastic grocery/store bags in order to create mats for individuals who are homeless. After initial training, volunteers may work from home! If you would like to receive announcements about upcoming group sessions, please join Dawn Stone’s Homeless Hookups group on Facebook or request to be added to the email distribution list by contacting jepray@outlook.com. NORTHEAST GEORGIA HEALTH SYSTEM (NGHS) OFFERS OPPORTUNITIES FOR TEENS, COLLEGE STUDENTS AND ADULTS. The teen volunteer program provides high school students a wonderful avenue for exploring careers in healthcare, while assisting with non-clinical volunteer duties and contributing to the quality of customer service at hospital campuses. The program also provides teens the opportunity to learn the importance of giving back to the community. This program is in high demand and, with limited placements available, typically fills up by the first of March. Teens are welcome to serve during the school year after completing the summer program. NGHS will begin taking volunteer applications in February 2020 for Summer 2020. Before applying, please carefully review the NGHS Volunteer Services Handbook, available at https://www.nghs.com/fullpanel/uploads/files/ 20
volunteer-handbook-2019.pdf. For additional information, please visit https://www.nghs.com/teen-volunteers or call 770-219-1830.
College students interested in volunteering are required to submit a NGHS volunteer application with background check to Volunteer Services. College students interested in volunteering during a specific semester are advised to apply by mid-term of the semester before they wish to begin. Additional information is available at https://www.nghs.com/college-volunteers or by phone call to NGMC Braselton (770-848-1830) or NGMC Gainesville (770-219-1830). Adult volunteer opportunities are available within the hospitals, long term care facilities, medical plazas, Hospice, Lifeline, or with special events, providing rewarding experiences for compassionate, empathic and positive individuals. Because of the nature of the care delivered to patients, adult volunteers are carefully screened and placed into appropriate assignments. Adherence to standard policies and procedures as well as dependability and promptness are critical. For additional information, please visit https://www.nghs.com/adultvolunteers or call 770-219-1830.

Pet Owner Reminders
If you are a pet owner, PLEASE keep in mind the following good neighbor tips: 1. Make sure that your pets are collared and have an identifying tag, so that if they do escape, they can be returned to you. 2. Make sure dogs are on a leash, if not on your property, including when on common area. Dogs may not be off the leash at any of the amenities, any time, including the lake, walking trails, and parks. 3. Make sure cats are not creating a nuisance for your neighbors. 4. Bring barking dogs into the house immediately! Remember Hall County Animal Control Ordinance states a dog is a public nuisance if it makes any vocalizations for more than fifteen (15) minutes without interruption or more than thirty (30) minutes if the vocalization is intermittent. 5. ALWAYS clean up after your pet when not in your own yard, including when on common areas. Periodically remove waste from your yard aw well to prevent health and odor problems. 6. If you are being bothered by a nuisance animal, I recommend first speaking with the pet owner in a pleasant, nonconfrontational way. Explain your position and try to reach an amicable solution. If a satisfactory solution cannot be reached, contact Hall County Animal Control at 770-531-6830 to file a complaint.
