Association Manager’s Corner
The Manager's Message It has been a very busy summer at Sterling on the Lake! HERE ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS: To ensure that our lakes remain healthy the Board has engaged a new lake maintenance contractor to manage the large lakes within the community. They will visit the community once a month to monitor the lakes, confirm P.H. levels and check the fish population. They also remove litter in the lakes and along the shore. In addition, we are addressing the beaver population in several of the lakes. To improve the efficiency and the functionality of the clubhouse, we have implemented some renovations and repairs. The Manager’s office, the Activities Director’s office and the small room by the Gathering room have been renovated to make them more efficient and make the building more suitable for large gatherings. The craft room has been converted to a storage area for the kayak paddles, life jackets and other items used for community activities. We have replaced the HVAC units in the fitness room and the compressor in the Gathering room. Proposals for Audio and Video equipment upgrades are being reviewed by the Board of Directors and we hope to have this upgraded equipment installed in the Fall. The infinity pool connected to the lap pool at the clubhouse has been repaired, and we now have solar lights along the lake pathway from the lake pavilion to Lake Sterling Boulevard. The association has two 3-person kayaks, one 2-person kayak and four 1-person kayaks available for residents to use without charge. Just drop by the clubhouse to sign your rental agreement and pick up your paddles and lifejackets. They are available Monday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00-5:00pm With the Spout Springs Road widening project delayed until October, the Board has approved installing perennials at the front to add some color. We do not know when the expansion will affect the community’s Spout Spring’s entrance. As the school year begins, we need the residents’ help in maintaining the community – Please limb-up your street trees on the side facing the street to a minimum of eleven feet (11’) from the ground to allow for school buses and delivery trucks to safely access the streets. The branches along the sidewalk should be raised to a minimum eight feet (8’) from the ground to allow for pedestrian traffic. Dead trees are the homeowner’s responsibility to remove and replace with the same species. It is recommended to do this in late fall. If you have a question on the type of tree you should plant on your street contact the office and we will help you with this. It has been noted that some residents and their guests are parking their vehicles in the streets during the day and in some cases overnight. Vehicles are always to be parked in the homeowner’s garage or driveway. Parking in the street or cul-de-sacs makes it difficult for emergency vehicles or school buses to pass and can create a safety hazard. Please be respectful of your neighbors and park in garage or driveway. If you have any questions, please contact me at tquinn@cmacommunities.com or come by the clubhouse. My door is always open. 10 QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR KIDS AFTER SCHOOL INSTEAD OF HOW WAS YOUR DAY
50 questions to ask your kids after school instead of “How was your day?” What made you smile today? Can you tell me an example of kindness you saw/showed? What did you do that was creative today? Who did you sit with at lunch today? Tell me something you know today that you didn’t know yesterday? Did you like your lunch? What was the hardest rule to follow today? If you could change one thing about your day, what would it be? What made your teacher smile? What made her frown? If you could switch seats with anyone in class, who would it be? And why? Pet Owner Reminders
If you are a pet owner, PLEASE keep in mind the following good neighbor tips: 1. Make sure that your pets are collared and have an identifying tag, so that if they do escape, they can be returned to you. 2. Make sure dogs are on a leash, if not on your property, including when on common area. Dogs may not be off the leash at any of the amenities, any time, including the lake, walking trails, and parks. 3. Make sure cats are not creating a nuisance for your neighbors. 4. Bring barking dogs into the house immediately! Remember Hall County Animal Control Ordinance states a dog is a public nuisance if it makes any vocalizations for more than fifteen (15) minutes without interruption or more than thirty (30) minutes if the vocalization is intermittent. 5. ALWAYS clean up after your pet when not in your own yard, including when on common areas. Periodically remove waste from your yard aw well to prevent health and odor problems. 6. If you are being bothered by a nuisance animal, I recommend first speaking with the pet owner in a pleasant, nonconfrontational way. Explain your position and try to reach an amicable solution. If a satisfactory solution cannot be reached, contact Hall County Animal Control at 770-531-6830 to file a complaint.

While we cannot stop bulling from happening altogether, we can minimize the impact it has and prevent our kids from becoming targets. This class is for both parents and children who would like to know more about how to stop a bully and what to do if you are targeted by one.
BASIC SELF DEFENSE STRIKING Saturday, October 12th, from 10:00am-12:00pm Everyone knows how to throw a basic punch and kick. As animals it is baked into our DNA. Unfortunately, punches and kicks used incorrectly and can injure the striker more than their opponent. This class will help show basic concepts and strategies related to striking to minimize personal injury and maximize an attacker’s discomfort.

Sterling on the Lake Fitness
MEET OUR FITNESS INSTRUCTORS Gayle Amey, As a lifetime yo-yo dieter, I have spent countless dollars on the latest “Miracle Diet Plan” and exercise gadget. I have bought and tossed, the Thigh Master, Shake Weights, Exersaucer, Ab Roller, Gazelle, Treadmill and an Elliptical to name a few. (not to mention the VCR tapes for Aerobics, Tae BO, Sweatin’ to the Oldies, Thin thighs in 30 days, Butt Blaster...) One day, as I was on my new Elliptical for about five minutes and looking at the clock, hoping it said 30 minutes, I realized that I needed motivation from an outside source. That afternoon, I signed up for my first Zumba Class. That evening in class, I realized that I found my people! Ladies just like me, going through the same thing, all in a room exercising together, not even looking for a clock! Since that day in 2012, I have obtained certifications in Zumba, Zumba Toning, Zumba Gold, Zumba Step and RIPPED.
Diana Wagner, I have lived in beautiful SOTL for 7 years. I have been a member of Fit Frenzy Studio since it opened and belonged to the gym in the same location before that for 6 years. Being part of this small exercise community was a primary source of my first friendships when my family moved to Georgia. I enjoy leading fun high energy group exercise with encouragement while emphasizing correct form for safety and offering individual modifications as needed so that everyone is exercising at their own capacity with the goal of progress during each session and not perfection. I think group exercise inspires people to work harder than they would on their own. I look forward to being a part of a fitness journey within our community! Christy Recinella, My family has lived in Sterling on the lake for 9 years and I have been a PiYo instructor for almost 3 years. I teach PiYo because I love the way it works your entire body with a low impact method that also stretches your muscles while strengthening them. I love all things fitness and health related and helping people feel more confident, strong and healthy.
I have devoted nearly all of my spare time bringing my realization to women every day. In March of 2018, I took it to another level by opening Fit Frenzy Studio, LLC in Buford, GA. I am blessed to open the doors to any woman that wants to take the step through them. Together with my team of amazing instructors, we are changing lives and making a difference. Come join our family! Susie Fuller, My passion is now helping other moms get their lives back in order by working on themselves. I live by example and I have walked the walk and talked the talk. I get what it's like to be cute and chunky my entire life. I live the life I want now and don't really care what anyone outside of those closest to me thinks. In 2008, I weighed 210lbs. At 5'2", I was about as round as I am Short! I did it and I can honestly say that it was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I lost over 90lbs and 95% of the weight I lost was on my own without any help from trainers. I believe everything in life happens for a reason and we may not know what that reason is until later. I truly believe I finally had the strength, courage, determination to conquer this battle so I could learn from it and help others. Because of my decision to be a happier, healthier MOM, my kids are now making very good healthy decisions on their own!
Stefanie Long, Stefanie is a registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance. She has been teaching for a little over 8 years, everywhere from a traditional yoga studio setting to boot camps. Stefanie has experience and training in a variety of yoga styles, such as Iyengar, Ashtanga, vinyasa, restorative, and power yoga. Additionally, she specializes in training and has certifications in trauma sensitive yoga, Christ Centered Yoga, yoga for teens, PiYo and paddle board yoga. Most of Stefanie’s classes are multi-level classes. She offers a lot of options, and you choose what is best for your energy level, experience, physical limitations etc.
