Ready to Take your Fitness to the Next Level in 2016? Join the NEW Sterling on the Lake (SOTL) Spartan Team!

We are looking for people who want to be healthy in 2016 and take on new challenges as they take their fitness to the next level. Take the 60-Day challenge and join us as we prepare for the Atlanta Spartan Sprint which is a 3-4 mile race with 30+ obstacles on Saturday, March 5th in Conyers. We will talk about how to train for 60-days and what it takes to tackle a Spartan race for the first time. The meeting will be run by Gary Marx and Gino Molinet, Sterling on the Lake resident founders of our SOTL Spartan Team. Gary (pictured above) was a 2015 Spartan Rookie who completed his first Trifecta after being inspired by Gino’s personal story of becoming a Spartan (which was featured in the December 2014 Sterling Life Newsletter). Gino has run more than 30+ obstacle races and is a member of the Spartan Street Team. When it comes to Spartan Racing, it is said that “you’ll know at the finish line.” Gary and Gino will help you get there … together as Sterling Spartans!

Now, they’re going to have to do it for real. Jurrasic World • Friday, January 29th Movie Starts at 6:30pm • Rated PG-13
Twenty-two years later, Dr. John Hammond’s dream has become a reality: Jurassic World is a bustling luxury resort off the coast of Costa Rica where families gaze with fascination as dinosaurs of every shape and size roam again, all displayed and safely contained for the guests’ amusement. Because the park’s commercial prosperity demands new innovations to keep guests returning, geneticist Dr. Henry Wu is pushed beyond the bounds of ethical science, manipulating genetics to engineer a dinosaur - the Indominus rex - that has never walked the Earth before and whose abilities remain undiscovered. Overseeing every corner of Jurassic World is Claire, who finds herself unexpectedly saddled with nephews, Zach and Gray, who she sends off to explore the park. Claire is consulting with Owen, an ex-military expert in animal behavior, when Indominus rex escapes. Order in the park turns to mayhem as dinosaurs escape into the open, and Claire and Owen must find her nephews before it’s too late.
Walk in the Woods • Thursday, February 11th Movie Starts at 6:30pm • Rated R
Celebrated travel writer Bill Bryson, instead of retiring to enjoy his loving wife and happy family, challenges himself to hike the Appalachian Trail - 2,200 miles of America’s most unspoiled, spectacular and rugged countryside from Georgia to Maine. The peace and tranquility he hopes to find, though, is anything but when he is joined by his long lost and former friend Katz, a down-on-his-luck serial philanderer who, after a lifetime of relying on his charm and wits to keep one step ahead of the law, sees the trip as a way to sneak out of paying some debts and into one last adventure before it’s too late. The trouble is, the two have a completely different definition of the word “adventure.” Now they’re about to find out that when you push yourself to the edge, the real fun begins.
Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation Friday, February 19th
Movie Starts at 6:30pm • Rated PG-13 With the IMF disbanded, and Ethan out in the cold, the team now faces off against a network of highly skilled special agents, the Syndicate. Ethan gathers his team and joins forces with disavowed British agent Ilsa Faust, who may or may not be a member of this rogue nation, as the group faces their most impossible mission yet.

January / February Fun Facts JANUARY
FEBRUARY
January is the first month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars, and one of seven Gregorian months with the length of 31 days
February is the second month of the year in the Julian and Gregorian calendars. It is the shortest month and the only month with fewer than 30 days; the month has 28 days in common years or 29 days in leap years.
• According to Facebook users, January is "Change Your Profile Picture To A Muppet" Month • January 1st, 1776, the first American flag, the "Grand Union", was presented. Betsy Ross later added the stars in place of the Union Jack. • Leap years exempted, January always begins on the same day as October. • In leap years, January always begins on the same day as April and July. • The Chinese floral emblem of January is the plum blossom • January is National Soup Month in the United States.
Networking in your Neighborhood Starts Here! • Promote Your Business • Share Your Services • Provide Resident Incentives To inquire about Advertising, please contact Bobbie at 770-535-6332 or bgittens@gainesvilletimes.com Resident discounts available, please call for pricing.
January/February
• In common years, February can pass without a single full moon. The next time this will happen is in 2018. • Once every six years, February is the only month that has four, full seven-day weeks. • February starts on the same day of the week as March and November in common years, and on the same day of the week as August on leap years. • February ends on the same day of the week as October every year. • In leap years, it is the only month that begins and ends on the same weekday. • People born on a leap year technically celebrate their birthday only once every four years, but most observe it on the 28th.

Help the City of Flowery Branch Manage Issues with SeeClickFix Web/Mobile Citizen Mobile App! Did you know that the City of Flowery Branch employs a new program allowing residents to report quality-of-life issues and request services through an online and mobile interface? This new platform aims to improve the quality of life within the city and to further encourage greater civic participation. Powered by SeeClickFix, the place-based reporting platform allows residents to document neighborhood concerns and improvements alike, ranging from litter and flooding to damaged sidewalks and malfunctioning traffic signals. With the online and mobile reporting platform, residents can report concerns through service request categories (via the City of Flowery Branch website, mobile applications (iPhone, Android), and SeeClickFix.com). When submitting issues via mobile app, for example, residents can provide location, descriptive, and photographic information as they see the issue in real time. Once the resident submits an issue, the January/February
reporter, City of Flowery Branch, and anyone ‘watching’ the area will receive an alert. The City of Flowery Branch can then acknowledge the service request, route it to the proper department, and update the request—and residents following the issue—once it’s been resolved. The partnership allows residents to report community issues, as well as view, comment on, and vote to fix problems submitted by their neighbors. Citizens can even create their own “watch areas” to receive notifications about all issues reported in their community, enabling them to follow the progress of all service requests---not just the ones they report. Reports can be submitted and tracked from the City of Flowery Branch website directly at www. flowerybranchga.org, where residents will also find links to download the mobile applications. Download the application to your mobile device today… and start to See, Click and Fix!
