N E W S F R O M T H E H O S P I TA L I T Y C O M M I T T E E

NEW RESIDENT MEET AND MINGLE SUNDAY, JUNE 6TH, 2021 / 3-4PM We want to extend a warm welcome to all our new residents! We are always excited to welcome more families into the community! Our last Meet and Mingle was so much fun! We hope that you are feeling at home here in Traditions. For those who could not make our last Meet and Mingle, we hope to meet you next time. Residents here have many activities to enjoy, such as tennis, golf, pickleball, yoga, and much more. Other groups or committees are not limited to but include Bible study, Empty Nesters, Social committee, and others. You can find an array of activities to suit your lifestyle. Moreover, if there is a committee you would like to join, simply review the list of committees in this newsletter and let the Committee Chairs know! We are always looking for people to join the Hospitality Committee! Any college students looking to serve their community during our upcoming Christmas D’Lights event scheduled for December 4th can contact me any time at hospitalitycommittee@traditionsofbraselton.org Also, please follow the community’s official Facebook Page entitled: Traditions of Braselton Community Association. There you will be updated on all community events! We are also pleased to let you know about our new Sub-Committee called Comfort and Care led by Lyn Coburn. The purpose of this group is to reach out to families experiencing bereavement to show our neighborhood support. If you have a loss in your immediate family, or are aware of a neighbor who has, please let us know via email. It is important to us to show our support when needed the most. Our only way finding out who needs our support is by YOU informing us! Last, please be advised that we follow COVID guidelines. Please wear a mask to attend the Meet and Mingle. RECIPE CORNER

CROCKPOT SALSA CHICKEN www.delish.com This is probably THE simplest recipe... ever? A slow cooker meal made with only 4 ingredients is really something to celebrate. The chicken falls apart and becomes immensely tender, flavored with the familiar flavors of chunky salsa and taco seasoning, and brightened up with bursts of lime juice. Serve this over rice, in lettuce cups, or as tacos. This recipe is the epitome of set it and forget it. Want to change it up a little bit? Sub the red salsa for a salsa verde for a totally different flavor and an equally easy dinner. If you’ve made this simple recipe, let us know how it went in the comments below! YIELDS: 6 SERVINGS

PREP TIME: 0 HOURS 5 MINS

TOTAL TIME: 3 HOURS 15 MINS

INGREDIENTS

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts 2 tsp. taco seasoning mix 2 c. chunky red salsa Lime wedges, for serving

INSTRUCTIONS

Arrange chicken breast in slow cooker. Sprinkle all over with taco seasoning mix. Pour 1 cup of the salsa over seasoned chicken. Cover and cook on high for 3 hours (or low for 6-8 hours). Use two forks to shred the chicken. Add remaining cup of salsa and toss to coat.

NEWS FROM THE EMPTY NESTERS

“Hoops and Holes” Emptynesters April Event

The day was Saturday, April 10, 2021 and we finally get to have an event again. So, we pulled out all of the stops. The place was the Owners’ Clubhouse, and the Empty Nesters came to PARTY. The decorations were all about basketball and golf and everything orange and green. The EN committee met to create a host of fun basketball and golf games because we know how competitive we can get. The table decorations included glass cylinders of grass, golf balls, tees, basketballs with tiny men everywhere and the brain teaser TEE triangle games. We welcomed so many new neighbors to our group that it is hard to keep up. We are blessed to have so many new members as well as committee members. We have a few committee members we want to thank for their years of service to our group- Lynn Kolb, Beth Eggleston, and Carol Higbie. We also want to welcome new committee members- Jennie Deese, Beth Franklin, Helen Minor, Joy Rich, Laura Madden and Carol Mays. Looking forward to many new ideas for future fun times. No pressure, Ladies! We want to thank the Morrell’s for their generous donation of catered food from Epting events. The variety of sliders and appetizers were delicious. Numerous additional yummy foods and desserts were provided by our members (and we have some good cooks). We had our beverage of choice or a glass or two of Nancy Bolen’s “John Daly” cocktail (spiked Arnold Palmer), all while enjoying each other’s’ company. Many took the opportunity to practice the miniature golf and basketball games for later. Then the games began. We had a beautiful night (rain stopped at the right time) and made the most of it. We had five games set up for all to enjoy in teams of four- 2 golf and 3 basketball. The putt-putt type miniature golf holes that we played with a 6-inch golf club and a marble on the table was a challenge. The loop-de-loop was great fun to see who could make their putt through the loop in one shot and we even had a few hole-in-ones. Watching the real golfers standing up and trying to get both hands on the 6” club was hilarious and did not make them any better a golfer than the rest of us. The next game, created by the Poppes’ son, was a skeeballtype putting game. The object was to putt the ball into the hole with the highest point value. Each got two putts

18

MAY 2021

and several teams came away with zero points on that one. Sounded easier than it actually was. Lots of laughter to be had by all. The basketball games were up next. Head Game Hoops with a plastic basketball and the goal attached to a teammates head was fun to watch. The goalie could not see to help much, so a few helped a little more than most by almost reaching into the goal. The pong springboard hoop game was a challenge to most. The object was to catapult the ball from the spoon into the hoop. Oh the faces and the determination. There was one basket made, albeit into someone’s wine glass! Two points, I don’t think so. No skills needed- well maybe a light touch. Another basketball ball game was to bounce a ping-pong ball into the baskets with various points. We will have to change these games up next time as they were too challenging but made people laugh. The winning team, by one point, was Vicky Jorstad, Rachel Maness, Helen Minor and Ray Smoak. We had a tie for the second place team, and they tied in two tie-breakers (yes, we thought that would be enough). So they were chosen by the only team to make a pong basket- the only all male team- Brett Schwartz, Joe Minor, Norm Bolen and Ron Donat. Congrats to all the winners who received their fabulous prizes that included lottery tickets. Let us know if we have a big winner. The EN committee created an awesome first event of the year. The best part of the entire evening was listening to all of the joy and laughter of just being together, as well as a little competition. So glad we are finally able to get together again to see friends and neighbors we have not seen for a while and meeting new neighbors. Looking forward to many more events this year. Our next event will be May 1, 2021 at the Owners Clubhouse. If you would like to join us, please email emptynesters@ traditionsofbraselton.org with name(s), address, best phone number and best email address. Hope to see you soon. Art of Yoga Here it is, May already. You had every intention on trying Yoga this year, but you just have not gotten around to it. Or maybe you are just nervous about it because you do not feel like you are flexible enough... Starting yoga should not be intimidating…. In fact, yoga is fun, exciting and you will be grateful you started. The best part of yoga is – a little can go a long way. You do not need to make tremendous shifts to your lifestyle to be able to do yoga. After teaching for over a decade, I can honestly tell you – you can start with as little as once a week. Make it easy for yourself and watch it seamlessly integrate with your life. I always encourage my students to “start slow, listen your body, and move at your own perfect pace. As you move into a stretch, notice your bodies cues and if something does not feel good, then know that your body is telling you “not today” Yoga should feel good. Sure, a challenge is great, but we do not want to feel discomfort. Moving at our own pace, allows us to feel the wonderful rewards and benefits yoga does for our bodies. All the sudden you may notice that you can touch your toes and reach higher than before! That is the beauty of flexibility and flexibility is the fountain of youth! Speaking of flexibility, you do not have to be flexible to do yoga… If only I could tell you how many times people have asked me this question. You do not need to be able to touch your toes or bend easily to start yoga. It really does get better with practice and consistency is key! Remember this… No one is judging you or watching you (other than the yoga teacher). I always encourage my students to let go of any judgement, competition, or expectations. Your practice is between you and your mat. ItCoupon serves for as a safe place for you to learn to breathe, Present listen, and feel. Making that mind body connection. No one knows your body better than you, so it is up to you to follow your own lead. No two bodies look alike, and we all have different levels of flexibility, and strength so do not compare yourself to others. Just breathe, let go and enjoy! You will be sure to start feeling better than ever and wonder what took you so long to start!

FUN FACT: In India, age is not measured by a number, but by the flexibility of your body, and especially the spine. Traditions of Braselton

The Spine is the switchboard of your nervous system and the messenger to your brain. When the Spine is flexible the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain and organs are unrestricted. MAY’S POSE OF THE MONTH : MARICHI’S POSE Revitalize your body with a nice twist. Sit up straight and hug your knees into your chest while you root down into your mat through your sitting bones. Straighten the right leg and keep the left knee bent, with your left heel on the floor as close to the sitting bones as possible. When you feel relaxed in your belly, wrap your right elbow around your left knee and look over the left shoulder. Inhale while you lengthen through your sitting bones and exhale, giving your body a nice twist. Repeat on the other side of your body. Your Spine will thank you for it!!! SHOUT OUT!!!! The Zen Yoga Class is filling up! Yoga is not just for Girl’s you know! I am so happy to have a nice mixture of both sexes! The Zen Class is a great class to start with if you are a beginner or you are just looking for a slower paced more gentle class to relax, restore, and renew!
