#HeForShe Well before the official #HeForShe movement was underway, The Ursuline School benefitted from the support of men honoring the important Ursuline women in their lives.

Bob Dohrenwend, husband of Patricia Niles Dohrenwend ‘62, not only encouraged his wife’s loyal support of her alma mater, but chose to personally donate to the school as well. “I associate independent thinking and selfconfidence with Ursuline women,” shares Bob, “Patty’s rigorous education provided a firm basis for her career in an era when that was not always anticipated. And her Christian education was invaluable for our family life. Future generations deserve the same.”

It was at the suggestion of Steven Trudel, husband of Barbara Hornig Trudel ‘95, that the Barbara Cunniffe Hornig Memorial Scholarship was established. “Ursuline maintains a very special place in our lives, as it has been home to several generations of Cunniffe and Hornig women. The pride in the school, community and quality of its alumnae have been fixtures of conversations with the family over the 16 years that I have been a part of it. It was natural for me to propose to Barbara a few years ago that we create a scholarship in memory of her late mother. The idea came from the Scholarship Endowment Report sent by the school; and seeing what other families have done. It just felt like the perfect way to honor Barbara, an educator herself, and support a place the family holds so dear.”

Eamon McCooey, father of Megan ’10 and Amanda ’18, is motivated to support Ursuline for the experiences it created for his daughters. “I continue to be amazed by how highly Ursuline graduates speak of their time at the school,” he shares. Eamon feels that during those critical high school years, the foundation set at Ursuline - academically, spiritually and socially — provides young women with the skills and confidence needed for whatever direction their journeys take them. Our world needs strong, smart empathetic leaders and “in an increasingly secular world, Catholic education is needed now more than ever.” The McCooeys continue to support Ursuline as parents of alumnae because they understand that “donations to the Annual Fund and the Campaign allow the school to maintain — and hopefully enhance — Ursuline’s ability to provide opportunities for so many deserving young women.” 60

We are grateful to Bob, Steven and Eamon for their loyal support and look forward to sharing additional #HeForShe stories in future publications.
