Valley Vehicle Fin er Currently, DBI is fundraising for a Revitalization Plan for Downtown Bloomsburg. This plan is expected to generate actionable and achievable goals that the community can produce to beautify the Downtown, increase foot traffic on Main Street, and encourage interest from outside developers in bringing new storefronts to the area. A great deal of research has already been conducted on Bloomsburg as part of the Revitalization Plan. Some key statistics include that slightly over 50% of all businesses located in Columbia County can be found in the Bloomsburg zip code (proving the critical importance of Bloomsburg in relation to the county). DBI also learned that Columbia County experienced $153 million dollars of tourism spending in 2013, which can be attributed in part to the popularity of the Bloomsburg Fair. More information on the collected research is available on the DBI website. DBI believes that a healthy, vibrant Downtown is an indicator for the economic condition of the Town, County, and surrounding region. Downtowns also pay business privilege and mercantile taxes, contributing to the overall growth and economic improvement of the Town and County. Additionally, DBI hosts many events to fund-raise and to increase excitement in the Downtown. One such event is the upcoming fourth annual Brewsburg, which is an evening of microbreweries, local food favorites, wines, and live music. This year the event will have an additional theme of a fabulous 80’s costume party as the event falls on Halloween night. People are free to come in their everyday attire, or dressed in their 80’s best! The live tribute bands will be providing awesome covers of favorite tunes from the 80’s. Other popular events include ArtFest, ArtWalk, Downtown Halloween Window Painting, and the North Pole Express.
