The Bee Geez USA to Help Fund Local Schools Selinsgrove PA - Tickets are selling rapidly for the concert which will benefit 4 local high schools on March
7th.The event which fea- drama groups at Milton, Setures the tribute group “The linsgrove, Shikellamy and Bee Geez USA”, will be Midd West High Schools. helping to fund musicals and The concert is being produced by SUN High School Musical Awards, Inc., a non-profit corporation founded three years ago by local entrepeneur and former musical performer Art Lieberman who was the co-founder of The Courtyard Theater in Selinsgrove in the Susquehanna Valley Mall. The concert will be held on March 7th at 7:00 PM at Susquehanna University’s beautiful Weber Chapel which seats 1,500. Lieberman attempted to produce an event 3 years ago, but claims his timing was bad. Instead, after opening the theater with Bob Taylor who continues to operate the venue, Lieberman booked the Bee Geez USA for a concert.
“The reaction to the group was astounding”, says Lieberman. “They sold the place out well in advance of the performance date and then amazed the audi-

When the Bee Geez USA appeared locally last year, they sold out the Courtyard Theater, the Susquehanna Valley Country Club and drew over 600 screaming fans to Hufnagle Park in Lewisburg, Beginning last year, the non-profit corporation started to explore dates which would be convenient to all ten high schools in the Snyder, Union and Northumberland Counties to which the name “SUN” applies. Only Lewisburg High School had a competing event and had to opt out. “I’m not entirely sure why more schools didn’t opt in”, says producer Art Lieberman, “but there is a positive for the ones who did. They will have a bigger slice of the monies raised from the concert”.Tickets for the concert are $25 and are now available through the four High Schools. People who want to support a particular school should purchase their tickets from them. All ticket buyers must call the box office at 570-966-0080 to confirm their seats since all seats are reserved. Tickets are also available directly from the box office by telephone. All tickets, including the ones purchased at the schools, will be “will call” and available in the lobby of the Chapel on the day of the event. Tickets may also be purchased at the event, on the evening of the concert for $30. “We advise people to show up at least a half hour prior to the show to get their tickets”, says Lieberman. The tickets themselves are receipts for the concert and the price will be considered a donation to the schools for tax purposes. The box office for this concert is open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM weekdays. The producers are also seeking sponsors to pay for the costs of the production to maximize the donations to the school. Protect Kids from Measels Breakout (StatePoint) A measles outbreak that began in late 2014 in California has since spread to multiple states. Most of those who have gotten sick from this highly infectious disease were not vaccinated against measles. Experts are calling the current outbreak an important reminder to vaccinate children fully against the disease. “Vaccines are one of the most important ways parents can protect their children from measles and other diseases,” says Sandra Hassink, MD, FAAP, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). “The measles vaccine is safe, necessary and effective.” The AAP is offering some fast facts about measles and the measles vaccine. • Measles is a highly contagious respiratory disease that spreads easily through the air or on infected surfaces. It causes rash, high fever, cough, runny nose and red watery eyes. In rare cases it can cause encephalitis that can lead to deafness or mental retardation. Of every 1,000 people who get measles, one or two will die. • The AAP, the Cen-
ters for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Academy of Family Physicians all recommend children receive the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine at age 12-15 months, and again at four to six years old. • It’s best to protect children with MMR vaccine as soon as they are old enough to receive it. Delaying vaccination leaves children vulnerable to measles for a longer period of time. Vaccinating on time also protects other children in the community, including infants younger than 12 months who cannot be vaccinated and are most susceptible to serious illness, hospitalization and death due to measles. • Getting the measles vaccine is much safer than getting the measles infection. Like any medicine, the vaccine is capable of causing side effects but usually these are mild, such as pain or swelling at the injection site and a fever that lasts a
day or two. The risk of the measles vaccine causing serious harm is extremely small. • If you are not sure if you or your children have been fully vaccinated against measles, talk with your doctor to see if anyone in your family needs to be vaccinated. There is no risk in receiving the measles vaccine if you have been immunized before. Your pediatrician is your best source of advice on vaccinations. When it comes to your children’s health, take control when and where you can. Experts agree that a great place to start is by ensuring your children receive the measles vaccine, as well as the full range of vaccines recommended by your pediatrician.

Creamy Champagne Dill Pork Chops What You Need 4 pork chops 1 medium sliced onion 1 cup sour cream 1 tbsp dried dill 1/2 cup champagne or white wine Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions • Mix sour cream, dill, salt and pepper. Set aside. • Brown onions and pork chops. Remove pork chops. • Deglaze pan with champagne making sure to lift all bits from bottom of pan. • When combined add sour cream mixture. Whisk. • Add pork chops back to pan and stir. • Simmer on low heat covered for 20 - 25 minutes. • Serve over noodles or mashed potatoes. • Top with fresh dill.
