River Town Team .... Invites the Public to Plant Tree Seedlings by the river On Thursday, April 19, at 5pm Lewisburg Landing Park on S Front and St George Streets The Lewisburg River Town Team has launched a Green Team that’s tackling conservation and maintenance tasks above and beyond the brief of the Borough Crew at the Lewisburg Landing Park by the St George St Boat Ramp. Every Monday evening the group is tackling litter and Japanese Knotweed and the like. In addition to those weekly sessions, this coming Thursday they will also be organizing a tree planting. This time of year there are many regional plant sales

offered by the County Conservation Districts to assist property owners and conservation groups with doing the right thing and working to reestablish Penn’s Woods. This activity will entail planting some tree seedlings in the no mow zone established last year at this time on the site. The public is invited to take part in the tree planting (as well as any other ongoing Green Team activities). The new trees will join the mixed crop of deciduous and evergreens put in last spring. Some of those didn’t survive, but many are staking their claim to the site. People are welcome to come out and have a go at putting in future shade. Volunteers should wear work clothes and sturdy

shoes. If you have gloves and tools to bring, please do, but know that there will also be loaners on hand. The process is somewhat strenuous, but not excessively so, given the small size of the trees. Those who are not up for digging and planting will be able to help in other ways, e.g. with litter pick up, watering, and taking photos. To get a sense of what the green team has been up to

Lewisburg invited the public to attend a Listening Session to hear and be heard on the subject. This month, the public is again invited to a Report Back on what came up last month. A compilation of what was said both in the way of issues and no-holdsbarred problem-solving will be presented. The group will consider whether anything is missing from that assessment. Walk It! A wrestler will lose a match. They may lose several matches, or not even win in those early years. They may fail to master a specific move in practice, growing frustrated with each failed attempt. Wrestling teaches the importance of “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” If a young kid is learning how to code, or working on a math problem, they may not get it right. Through wrestling, they have learned that if they continue to work on their failures, they can eventually get it—and achieve success. Effort: Repeatedly trying to overcome challenges, and failures, takes effort. That’s another value that shouldn’t be overlooked, Concannon says.
