Maybe we have decided to give up on love. Maybe we have waited long enough for love to find us. Maybe we have been disappointed in love in the past. Maybe people have hurt us so badly that we needed to numb ourselves from the pain. However, maybe now we feel that we have to find a way to deal with love once again. See, it is God’s will that we love because without love nothing else matters (1 Corinthians 13: 1-3). See, love is more than a feeling. Love is a choice of behaviors that grows within our life. Love is a fruit of the Holy Spirit that

is produced in our life as we yield to God. Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never selfish or rude. If you love someone, you will always be loyal to that person, no matter what the cost. You will always believe in that person, always respect and expect the best of that person (1 Corinthians 13: 4-7). St. Paul’s letter on love in 1 Corinthians 13: 1-13 is really a description of how God loves us. As we begin to absorb God’s love, we will find ourselves reaching out to love again.

No one loves perfectly but we cannot give up on love. We can accept the responsibility to love others and stop waiting for them to love us without playing the victim role. We cannot expect to be good at loving immediately again but we can be patient as God’s love grows within us. See, when we choose to act in loving ways, the emotions will follow and we will find love coming back to us.
