On May 3rd, 2015, the Good Time 4-H club met at the Limestone Township picnic area. Members cleaned debris, raked leaves and painted the picnic tables, benches and pavillion. The club chose this community service to thank the township for allowing them to use the township building to hold their meetings. Afterwards, the club welcomed Elizabeth A. Capaldi, PhD. Dr. Capaldi is an Associate Professor of Biology and Animal Behavior at Bucknell University. Dr. Capaldi spoke to the club about the importance of bees in agriculture. She also shared some of her research about diseases bees contract and answered questions from club members. Sandeep Thakrar, a Senior Advisor at Neema Hospitality and a childhood friend of BethAnn, was so inspired by her story that he wanted to give back to her and her charities. Telford and Thakrar were close friends growing up in Mechanicsburg, PA. Years later, they reconnected when Thakrar learned that Telford was battling brain cancer and competing in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii in 2012. “When I heard that my childhood friend BethAnn had terminal brain cancer I was devastated,” says Thakrar. “When I learned how she is dealing with that life challenge, I became inspired to do everything in my power to help her find a cure. Watching her fight each and every day for children with Brain Cancer changed my life and inspired me to be a better person.” Telford, who now lives in Fairfax, Va., has raised over $750,000 dollars for research into pediatric cancer and brain tumors through the non- profit Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. “Though my brain cancer has given me many obstacles to overcome,” Telford said, “it has blessed me with the support, love, and friendship of so many. It is so wonderful to be reunited with my friend Sandeep, and to have his and his family’s support. I am so thankful.” Neema Hospitality will donate $5 per night. Awardwinning jazz singer and recording artist Rondi Charleston is performing the Jazz in July Concert on Monday, July 13. Both concerts begin at 8 p.m. in the Wells Faro Amphitheater on the upper campus. Tickets for the Starlight Concert featuring Marc Cohn and Jazz in July go on sale Monday, May 18. Cohn burst onto the music scene in 1991 with his self-titled debut album, which solidified his place as one of his generation’s most compelling singer/ songwriters. It featured his hit single “Walking in Memphis,” and other memorable songs like “Silver Thunderbird” and “Ghost Train.” He followed up his platinum selling album with two more releases in the 1990s at which point TIME magazine called him “one of the honest, emotional voices we need in this decade” and about whom Bonnie Raitt declared, “Marc is one of the most soulful, talented artists I know … I marvel at his ability to mesmerize every audience he plays for.’’ Raitt, James Taylor, David Crosby, Graham Nash and Patty Griffin all made guest appearances on Cohn’s early records for Atlantic. He released his fourth studio album, “Join The Parade” in 2007 after being inspired by the horrific events of Hurricane Katrina and his own near fatal shooting just weeks before. Rolling Stone magazine endorsed his latest release, 2010’s “Listening Booth: 1970,” by stating “Cohn is one of rock’s most soulful croons – a rich immediately-recognizable tenor that makes these songs his own.’’ The album features a collection of his favorite covers from Cat Stevens’ “Wild World” to Grateful Dead’s “New Speedway Boogie.’’ It peaked on the U.S. Albums Top 100 at number 28. “I feel like I’m constantly in the process of trying to start a new record,’’ Cohn says, commenting on his career. “It really involves a lot of patience and absorption. Often I’m just waiting for the right frame to put a certain picture in. And I never know how or when that’s going to happen.’’
