Health people of any age can experience a heat related illness however those at the greatest risk are people over 65, infants and young children. The most common heat related illnesses are heat exhaustion and stroke.

Summer Heat Heat exhaustion occurs from sun exposure and not drinking enough fluids after spending time outdoors. The time to avoid outdoors is between the hours of 113. Symptoms of heat exhaustion are heavy or profuse sweating, paleness, extreme fatigue, nausea and/or vomiting. The treatment of heat exhaustion is to rest, drink plenty of fluids slowly and cool your body slowly. If not treated heat exhaustion can

result in heat stroke. Heat stroke occurs when your body temperature rises above 103 degrees Fahrenheit. Symptoms include, hot dry skin, dizziness, nausea, fainting, vomiting, headache and rapid pulse. If you feel as though someone is experiences heat strokes please seek medical attention immediately. Heat stroke can become severe very quickly and can cause death

su, which literally means “finger pressure”, is actually much more than the word implies. It is a type of alternative medicine consisting of finger and palm pressure, stretches, and other massaging techniques. In fact, it combines techniques from both Eastern medicine such as accupressure, where it focuses on pressure points and the system of energy meridians, to techniques that look like Western forms of physical therapy, osteopathy, and more. Much more than the simple “relaxing rub-down” of conventional massage, one local Shiatsu practitioner, Jason Whistler, who runs the “Healing Hands” clinic in Sunbury and who is completing his level 4 practioner’s certification, says that Shiatsu can help with many different

ailments and move the individual to a much freer - more pain-free - state of well-being. Shiatsu has been reported to help reduce stress and calm the nervous system. It boosts stamina and improves digestion, menstrual function, concentration, and mental state. It promotes better posture and helps relieve back and neck pain, muscle pain, nausea, anxiety, and depression. It enhances body awareness and creates a greater feeling of well-being.
