Finally, after two more plays: “Over the River and Through the Woods” and “Radio Razzle Dazzle” in August and September, the Courtyard Theater will present the live version of the cult favorite musical, “The Rocky Horror Show” which, although rated “PG”, is well known to have
audience participation which causes the warning to potential audience members who have never seen either the play or movie to expect shocking language from the viewers. The theater will also be selling bags of “goodies” so essential to audience participation in the play. If you’ve never seen “Rocky” you are well advised to ask a friend who has seen it what it is about.

ealth care rationing has been a part of our medical community for a long time. American’s are accustomed to rationing by ability to pay. Doctors, medicines and facilities are not unlimited. But, even if you have insurance, you may still be denied health care. You’ve heard about cancer patients being denied more treatments because of inability to pay? That’s rationing. Age-based rationing is less heard of. Socially, we spend $9000 per person over the age of 65 and less than $900 per child per year. Some see spending money on the elderly as a tremendous waste. That’s why the ‘Obama Death Panels’, as they were nicknamed, were created. Regardless, we are starting to see the effects of the new laws and how rationing will actually happen. Our vets coming back from defending our freedom are denied coverage and health care. Some are waiting months just to see a doctor. Pioneer Day 2014
Celebrate 52 Years of Tourist Fun in Ashland, PA
Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine in Ashland will be hosting its 22nd annual Pioneer Day on Saturday, August 16th, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This year’s Pioneer Day is in celebration of Pioneer Tunnel’s 52nd anniversary as a tourist attraction. In addition to its coal mine tours and steam train rides, which will be running continuously, many special events will take place in Higher-Up Park which is adjacent to the Pioneer Tunnel grounds. Music and entertainment will be provided free of charge. Visitors waiting to board, and while taking the coal mine tours, will be entertained with coal mining songs and stories by Stu Richards and Tommy Symons known locally as the “Breaker Boys.” There is a charge for the coal mine tours and steam train rides. The regionally popular “Ray G” will be performing on the bandstand in the park from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with a mix of 50’s – 90’s classics and modern country music. Bring a lawn chair and sit back and relax while listening to some great music. A craft fair will be held throughout Higher-Ups Park with many unique handcrafted items. Several local community organizations will be selling raffle tickets on theme baskets, fundraising items, and offering pictorial displays and free information. The highlight of Pioneer Day is al-
ways the food concessions. Several local churches, organizations, and food vendors will be selling chicken barbeque dinners, bleenies, homemade baked goods, haluski, halupki, hamburgers, hot dogs, bean soup, pizza, pulled pork sandwiches, sausage sandwiches, rib-eye steak sandwiches, pierogies, french fries, ice cream, barbeque, funnel cakes, bundukies, traveling tacos and many other delicious foods. Authentic Egyptian food which was a big hit last year will be available again. New this year will be ham and bean soup and PA Dutch chicken corn soup cooked in old-fashioned kettles on the park grounds. Containers will be available for “soup-togo.” If you’ve never been to Pioneer Tunnel, one of Pennsylvania’s Top Ten tourist attractions right in your own backyard, plan to come to Pioneer Day for a day filled with great food and entertainment. If you haven’t done it before, take our mine tour and find out all about our rich coal mining heritage and what it was like in the days when “coal was king.” Also take a scenic ride on the “Henry Clay” where you’ll see a strip mine, a replica of a “bootleg” coal mine, and hear all about the Centralia mine fire. This book is a very psychological account of Mike Kaminski’s life as he struggled with suicide, addiction and spirituality as he lived with the actions of uniform patrol in Baltimore City and life-threatening investigations undercover in drug groups and organized crime associations followed by several years as a private investigator for defense attorneys. Eventually, he would run from that violent life and world and enter a seminary to receive ordination. However, the ghosts of his past would continue to haunt him as he continued to hide in addiction and hope for suicide.
