he first step in making money with collectibles is locating them. Most people have a treasure trove in their attic, garage, or storage unit and don’t even know it. The average jewelry box can yield hundreds and even thousands of dollars worth of jewelry. With gold well over a thousand dollars per ounce even the broken chains and bent or damaged rings can be worth good money. Also, old baseball cards, stamps and coins are items worth getting appraised. We all have heard the stories about the Honus Wagner card or the 1943 copper penny found in attic collections. The first place to start is finding or locating items you may already have in your possession. Depending on where you live you may have a lot of other good sources for collectibles that you never considered before. Good places to find collectibles
are: yard sales, estate sales, local classified ads, websites, local auctions, thrift stores and more. One of the best web sites for finding local auctions is Auctionzip.Com. Once on the site you can narrow down your search by typing in your zip code to locate auctions near you. Also, you can find local auctions that have the types of collectables you are looking for. This is the best site for locating local auctions anywhere in the US. Once you find a place that has collectibles, now you are ready to perhaps do some buying. Before you get out your cash or checkbook, you will need to do a lot of research to determine what is worth purchasing. We will go into further detail on doing the research in the next edition of this publication. If you go to a local auction and are just getting started, it is best to start with box lots. Real valuables have been found in box lots. The only problem with box lots is the amount of worthless items that will need to be gone through as you try to locate the valuable items within it. Look at it as a treasure hunt. One small item within a large box can pay for the lot many times over. Box lots are the true money maker for many collectibles hunters. Another great way to find collectibles and make a solid profit from them is to go to estate or yard sales and negotiate with the seller. The majority of the time if you are willing to buy several items at a yard sale or in some case everything they have, they will give you a great deal. If you think about it they just want to get rid of the stuff and if you take it all they will cut you a deal. Many collectors have purchased very valuable items through this technique. It is best to go to yard sales later in the morning when the people selling are getting tired of standing around outside and just want to be done. You can certainly find good deals early in the morning too, but when looking to buy a large amount from one seller it is best to go later in the morning because the sellers are more willing to give you a good deal. With all of this said the main thing to remember is that negotiation is your best friend and the worst that someone can say is no and you can make them a better offer or walk away. If you are lucky enough to have a small auction hall near you that runs regularly scheduled auctions you will want to visit them often and you should come across large lots often and that is where you will make your money..

The Problem With Teaching Young Children The “Stranger” Rules Have you ever met a child who didn‚Äôt know the stranger rules? Why then, if every kid knows the “rules,” will ten-outof-ten kids go with the right stranger with the right story? In fact, that truth is the one thing that all criminally-abducted kids have in common. Regardless of the kind of family they came from, their looks, size, or anything else the one thing all of these victims have in common is... ...they all knew the rules! Every parent, when discussing a missing child or abduction, proudly states, “my child knows the rules. I made sure I taught them so I don’t have to worry.” They make this statement as though the parents of abducted children were somehow neglectful in their duty. The implication is that: 1) If the other parent had, this wouldn’t have happened, and... 2) I did, so I’ve got nothing to worry about. And NOTHING could be further from the truth. To prove it, let me ask you a question. “Why did you teach your child the stranger rules?“ If your answer is different than, “So they’ll be safe,” I’d be surprised. And why shouldn’t you? You want them to be safe, right? Of course. Here‘s another question. “Why did your child learn the stranger rules?” If I were a betting man, I’d be willing to bet your answer was something like: “So they’ll be safe.” And, you’d be... wrong!
