Valley Vehicle Fin er teaches workshops at Brushstrokes Art Supply, Gallery and Framing and at the Packwood House Museum. Lina Ferrara, CDA, has studied fine art and decorative painting in the United States and Florence, Italy. She has had her work accepted into juried art competitions and galleries, and her work can be found in private collections in the U. S., Italy, Holland, and Germany. She has also authored several books on artistic subjects. Albert Maguire is currently a Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania, where he specializes in vitreoretinal surgery
and runs a clinical trial of gene therapy to treat childhood blindness. His formal training in painting is limited to that taught in elementary and middle school art classes. His recent paintings were inspired by the work of the Lascaux cave painters, Andrew Wyeth, and the animal portraitist, George Stubbs. Elizabeth Murdoch Maguire was born in Pittsburgh, grew up in Princeton, NJ, and has been a resident of Lewisburg for over 20 yrs. She received a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of Vermont, an M.A. in Creative Related Arts from New York University and studied photography

Over 50 original paintings done on site in France and Italy will be featured in a twoartist show at the Kelly Gallery of the Packwood House Museum, 15 N. Water Street, Lewisburg, PA, in November. The show,entitled “Plein Air France and Italy” will feature recent work of Lewisburg’s Simonne Roy and Ithaca’s Brian Keeler. The show will run from November 1 through 15. The opening reception will be held November 1, 2014 from 5 – 8 p.m. and
is open to the public. The show coincides with Lewisburg’s annual Stroll Through the Arts on November 7, a very popul a r event sponsored by the Lewisburg Arts Council. In addition to opportunities to attend the opening reception and to see the show on the evening of the Stroll, the public is welcome to visit Kelly Gallery at Packwood House Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Simonne Roy has spent prolonged periods of time living and painting in France since the age of twenty when she studied there for a year. She just returned from two years of living and painting in France.
She says of the Packwood show “I have been working with this show in mind for two years. While in France I explored many subjects – some familiar(countryside) and some quite new to me (medieval architecture). Many of the paintings are colorful and bright in the impressionist style –reflecting hours spent tromping through vineyards and fields of canola and sunflowers. By contrast, other paintings are quite dark and mysterious, some are night paintings, that depict the medieval neighborhood where I lived.” A life-long resident of Pennsylvania, Simonne has been painting outdoors since she was a child. She graduated magna cum laude from Mount Holyoke She paints in oils and watercolors and sells her work through shows, galleries, and her website. She also does commissioned paintings of homes, gardens, landscapes, and commercial buildings. The artist has found recognition and praise for her paintings. She won first place in the Lewisburg Arts Festival show for “Blueberry Field.” Her painting “Sunflower Field” was accepted into the competitive juried show sponsored by Doshi Gallery held at the State Museum of Pennsylvania. Brian Keeler has been traveling and painting in Italy for over 20 years. His first year there, 1992, he took a printmaking workshop in Urbino and also delighted in being in Raphael’s hometown. Keeler has made the early trailblazing treks of the 19th century
French painter Jean Baptist Camille Corot an inspiration, as Corot was one of the first to paint plein air in Italy. Keeler has followed in Corot’s footsteps, by finding and painting many of the same motifs that Corot depicted. Keeler says his style and approach to painting are his own, but Corot’s mission to paint the light of Italy has nonetheless served as an inspiration. Keeler has produced a two-volume instructional DVD “L’Italia dipinta all’aria aperta,” painting in the open air in Italy. Keeler has also just had a book published by Northlight Books, titled, Dramatic Color in the Landscape. This show at the Packwood House Museum will include many of Keeler’s recent oil paintings and pastels as well as some studio work. Although he has recently moved to Ithaca, NY, he is from Wyalusing, PA,and still maintains a residence and studio there. Keeler is the son of a painter, the late William Keeler, and he received his initial arttraining at Keystone College in LaPlume, PA and graduated from the York Academy of Arts in York, PA. All pieces will be available for purchase. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
