The “Native Paths” brochure can be requested for free at www.VisitCentralPA.org or by calling 1-800-525-7320 or 570-524-7234. Faull, Professor of German and Humanities at Bucknell University and Cindy Inkrote, Director of the Northumberland County Historical Society, to produce a driving tour brochure that highlights the rich Native American and Moravian history in the Susquehanna River Valley. The “Native Paths” brochure is the first of its kind in Central PA and was a truly collaborative project between the Visitors Bureau, Bucknell University, and the Northumberland County Historical Society. The brochure takes the reader back to the colonial period, some 270 years ago, when Native Americans, colonists and Europeans came together to trade, negotiate, and RS • TRANSMISSIONS • BUMPERS • FENDERS • HOODS • TAILGATES • PU BOXES • CAB CORNERS • WHEELS • REARS • MOTORS RS

not a motorcycle club and do not practice motorcycle club rules or regulations. The American legion Riders are family oriented just as its parent organization, the American Legion. If you are interested in joining, contact Steven Klapp 570490-3879. ufn Visitors Bureau Releases New Native American

The brochure was designed by MoJo Active, located in Watsontown. The Moravian Archives in both Bethlehem, PA and Hernnhut, Germany participated in the project by allowing a manuscript map by Joseph Shippen and a stylized image of Chief Shikellamy to be used in the brochure. Katherine Faull, a local expert on Moravian and Native American cultures, is currently translating various Moravian Missionary diaries from the Colonial Period. She says of the project, “Working with archival materials opened up a new way of looking at the Susquehanna River Valley for me. This tour is my way of sharing those perspectives with both residents and visitors alike.” Cindy Inkrote, Director of the Northumberland County Historical Society says of the initiative, “The Native Paths driving tour offers a wonderful opportunity to follow the pathways of the Susquehanna River Valley’s early inhabitants and to become more aware of the interaction of those cultures. Dr. Faull’s translation of the Moravian diaries brings a new level of understanding to what took place during the 18th century at the Susquehanna’s confluence.” For more information about

VALLEY AUCTIONS future, guaranteeing a lower standard of living for our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. These shortsighted politicos, thinking only of the present, seem to think they can go on forever, steadily increasing the public debt, by just printing more and more money without an equal increase in goods and services, hoping to find someone to buy our consequently less and less valuable bonds. As history has repeatedly shown us, this does not work. Every society that has tried this has collapsed. A prime example is the Soviet Union. If socialism were a better system, we would

all be speaking Russian. Previously democratic civilizations and nations that have tried this have collapsed into dictatorship. Germany, the latter printing so much money that its currency became virtually worthless, bankrupting the country, and resulting in the establishment of Hitler’s Nazi(National Socialist) party dictatorship that brought on the horrors of World War II. It is time to rid ourselves of such history-ignoring, out-of-touch-with-reality, power-mad politicians, ousting them from power, and never let them in office again. -Harold Bob Jones REAL ESTATE - 40

Jersey Funk/Jazz Guitarist to perform in Williamsport “B.D. Lenz promotes his new live release” Hackettstown, NJ – Feb 27, 2012 – Contemporary jazz guitarist and composer B.D. Lenz delivers a scorching live set on his new CD, Five and Live -- answering his fans’ appeals to capture and record the raw passion he delivers during his live performances. B.D. Lenz recently released his seventh CD featuring recordings made during east coast gigs. Taking a different approach, Lenz recorded all performances in a live setting instead of the controlled recording studio environment fans are accustomed to hearing on his CDs. In response to the recurring question from fans, “When are you going to make a live recording?” Lenz, with the help of engineer Steve Kelly,

recorded three gigs spanning eight months time. Recordings took place at the Cape May Jazz Festival, Triumph Brewery, and Westfield Jazz Festival capturing a cross section of material he and his band have been playing for the past few years. Lenz says, “Throughout my career I’ve viewed by recording endeavors as a separate art and entity from playing live gigs. Yet all that architecture brings a restraint that some who’ve seen us live over the years find incomplete. It’s my hope that this record is the answer to my fans’ frustration.” The never-recorded-before, ‘Brother, You Will Know’ written specifically by Lenz for this album, is one of six originals and four classic cover tunes on the CD. Lenz says, “Most of the tunes are originals that we’ve played for the past

few years. A couple are covers that are staples of our live set such as ‘People Get Ready’ and ‘Superstition‘and then to narrow down a few more tunes I took a poll of my fans on my website.” Lenz also included a new arrangement of one of his favorite original tunes, ‘Uh-Huh’ since the original recording didn’t include sax. He also includes another evolved arrangement of the tune, ‘Smooth Sailing.’ Reflecting on the live performances Lenz says, ‘People Get Ready’ recorded at the Cape May Fest is “the best we’ve ever played it...” and adds, “...this CD shows a side of us that hasn’t been reflected on my studio records—that of us just going for it with no inhibitions. It’s pretty rockin’!” Williamsport appearance:

B.D. will be performing Saturday March 24th at Rumrunners Pub located at 341 Market St., Williamsport Pa. starting at 9pm. More information can be found at www.rumrunnerspub. com or by calling (570-3220303).B.D. will be joined by James Rosocha (bass), and Abe Fogle (drums). For more information about the artist and this event, visit www. BDLenz.com About the Artist Mix together the styles of Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, and Stevie Ray Vaughn and you have the recipe for one of the hottest new contempo-jazz guitarists on the scene today. Since the age of fourteen, B.D. Lenz has played guitar and studied wth the greats like Mike Stern, Vic Juris, and Charlie Bana-

cos. He has released seven recordings as a leader featuring jazz luminaries Randy Brecker, Will Lee, Mark Eagan, and Joel Rosenblatt among others, and his music has been featured in over 120 TV shows internationally. Voted GIGMAS-

Uptown Music Collective “Young Bloods” return home for the International Blues Challenge talents for concert promoters, record companies and other industry insiders, as well as the fans.

At midnight on February 1st 2012, six students and three staff members of the Uptown Music Collective left Williamsport bound for the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. The next day the students, all members of the Uptown “Young Blood” Blues Band, participated in the International Blues Challenge “Youth Showcase” and “Youth Knowledge Bowl.” Their participation in this prestigious event was made possible by the generous donations and support of The Billtown Blues Association, the Hartman Group, PP&L, The Bullfrog Brewery, The Community Arts Center and many generous individual donors. The International Blues Challenge (IBC) is a yearly event organized by the Blues Foundation, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, which is dedicated to preserving the history of the Blues. Held over a five day period, the

yearly competition attracts Blues bands and solo artists from all around the world to compete for recognition, awards and prizes. Since 1997, the Billtown Blues Association, a local affiliate of the Blues Foundation, has chosen one band and one solo artist each year to represent our area. Many local artists and bands have made the trip over the past 15 years, including; Miz Ida and the All-Nightas, The Blind Chitlin Kahuna’s, JT Thompson and this year’s participants the Pork Roll Project and Shaun Strickland. This year, in addition, the Billtown Blues Association also agreed to sponsor the application for a group from the Uptown Music Collective to participate in the relatively new Youth Showcase. The Youth Showcase is a performance event for young people under the age of 21, which gives them the opportunity to showcase their

These talented young musicians have all honed their musical skills while taking lessons and classes at the nonprofit music school and working together in the schools numerous performances. Through their experiences in this workshop they have all discovered and nurtured

a love for the Blues. On Friday afternoon, February 3, the Uptown “Young Blood” Blues Band took the stage at Alfred’s, a music club on Beale Street, to perform their set as part of the Youth Showcase. Performing music from Susan Tedeschi, Luther Allison, Buddy Guy and more, the band put on a great show,

earning the respect of the officials present and the crowd. “The Uptown Music Collective’s Young Blood Blues Band, representing the Billtown Blues Association in the recently held Memphis based IBC Youth Showcase, proved the future of the blues is in good continued next page

To top it all off, Gabe Stillman, leader of the Young Blood’s, tied for first place with a Blues Player from Texas in the International Blues Challenge Youth Knowledge Bowl.” Stillman, a seven year veteran of the Uptown Music Collective, took home the cash in the competition which tested participant’s knowledge of history, players, trivia and identification of individual bluesmen from recordings. Along with attending the International Blues Challenge finals at the Orpheum Theatre and the other Blues Challenge events in and around historic Beale Street, the Young Bloods and Collective staff members toured important musical landmarks in Memphis. “Memphis is to Blues, Rock and Soul, what Nashville is to Country,” said Brumbaugh. “We exposed our students to as much history as we could fit in, visiting the Stax Records Museum, Sun Studio’s, the Gibson Guitar Factory and a little American History with a visit to the Lorraine Hotel where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated.” After performing another short set, and jamming

with a few other showcase participants at the Memphis Hard Rock Café, the Collective van left Memphis heading into the Mississippi delta for a trip to the epicenter of the Blues. They stopped at the crossroads outside Clarksdale where blues lore states that Robert Johnson, the great Delta Bluesman, sold his soul to the devil for the ability to play and sing the Blues. The group also visited the home town of Blues Legend BB King, Indianola, where they toured the BB King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center. Finally making their way to Greenwood, Mississippi, where they paid their respects to the birthplace of the blues with a visit to the grave of Robert Johnson. The group arrived back in Williamsport on February 6th at midnight after seventeen hours on the road. The entire trip was made using the Collective’s 12 passenger van purchased with a grant made from the Williamsport-Lycoming Community Foundation. “I can’t imagine having the opportunity to make a trip like that at their age,” said Brumbaugh. “What an amazing opportunity our supporters and the Billtown Blues Association have given us! The students were incredibly well behaved and cooperative the entire time and I would make that trip again in a heartbeat.” “Drinking from the well was the best experience of my life both as a musician and just as a person. To see where such great musicians where born and to see where such great music was born was such a life changing experience. Being on Beale Street, being in the Delta, and being at Robert Johnson’s grave just gave me a warm feeling in my heart.” – AJ Robbins “The whole atmosphere of Beale street and the competition was indescribable. I never knew how big blues

music was until I was in the heart of it. It really opened my eyes as a musician and broadened my horizons of music.” – Carly Gardner “Visiting Robert Johnson’s gravesite in Mississippi was an almost transcendental moment for me as a musician. It really put things in perspective as to why I choose the lifestyle I do, as a musician.” – Maverick Vicars “Playing in the IBC Youth Showcase was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. As soon as I stepped out on Beale Street I was in awe of the excitement and the grandeur of the whole event. There was so much great music being played and it was joy to be there as a listener. Being inside some of the legendary clubs on Beale Street, where so many great blues artists and musicians have played, was jaw dropping.” – Gabriel Stillman “Going to Memphis was an

amazing experience. Being down there and hearing the music just pouring from every side was something that will always stay with me. When we visited places like Stax Records and

Robert Johnson’s grave, it was really hard not to feel musically inspired. Overall, the trip left a lasting impression; the stories and memories I brought
