AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY ROAD TO RECOVERY PROGRAM SEEKS VOLUNTEERS Imagine being diagnosed with cancer, but you don’t have transportation to your cancer treatments. Every patient in our area miss potentially lifesaving cancer treatment because they are too ill to drive themselves and are unable to find a ride. The American Cancer Society Road To Recovery® program provides free transportation to and from cancer treatment. The program needs volunteers to coordinate rides, as well as volunteer drivers. Billtown Blues Audition Concert to be Held Saturday, March 23 The time has come again for the Billtown Blues Association, BBA, to hold their 27th annual “Billtown Blues Challenge” Festival Audition Concert, where local and regional musicians compete for the coveted spot on the BBA festival stage performing along with confirmed national and international acts. The BBA Audition Concert is set for Saturday,
March 23, 2019 in the Genetti Hotel Ballroom, 200 West 4th Street, Williamsport, PA. The Solo/Duo competition starts at 4:00 p.m. and the Band competition begins at 6:00 p.m. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. Admission is $15 for the general public, $10 for Billtown Blues Association members. Continuing with the same event format, the judges for this important event are drawn from the
BBA current membership. All current members are eligible to receive a ballot and participate in the judging process as long as ballots are obtained prior to the first note of the event. Competing in the Solo/ Duo category are Williamsport and Bellefonte based, The Blues Creakers, Jason P. Yoder from Selinsgrove and Mini Mojo from Williamsport. In the
Band competition are the Becky Blue Band from Selinsgrove, A.C.’s Soul Medicine from Lewisburg, Scranton based JP Williams Blues Band, Blues On The Loose from Lancaster, the Benjamin Vo Blues Band from Lititz, and The Cadillac Cats from Williamsport. All performers were required to apply through a submission process and all criteria and performance rules align with those set forth by the Blues Foundation in Memphis TN. Al-

SUN Tech Planning Two Events this Year There are two fundraising events on the calendar for New Berlin’s Technical School this year. One is a repeat of a successful event staged last year at the Cherry Street Bistro, which is the school’s restaurant and culinary teaching facility. The other is planned to be held outside the school’s premises and it will be extremely unique. On March 22nd, the Bistro will again hold the “SUN Tech Benefit Dinner and Auction”. Once again the dinner is being coordinated by the school through the Administrator Jennifer Hain and with an assist from MCPS of Central PA President Art Lieberman, whose office abuts the school in New Berlin. Also involved is the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce, and their President Robert Garrett and his staff. All proceeds will go to the SUN Tech Foundation, Last year,152 participants jammed the Bistro and the school raised over $4,500. The free event was planned so that students from several courses could take an educational trip to Phila-
delphia to various places relevant to the studies. The dinner, a buffet prepared and served by students of the Culinary Department under the direction of InstructorChef Justin Wright, was a variety of different dishes that satisfied any palette. After the meal, thirty items were put up for live auction. Seven of the items were produced at the school itself and they were hits with the crowd. The contributors were all local businesses whose donations supported the goal of the auction. This year many of those that participated have indicated they’d love to participate again for a different group of students. However, there are indications that several new participants will be bringing some unique items to be sold at the auction. The school had hoped to raise $2,500 which was the actual cost of the trip. Even after expenses the school was easily able to pay for the trips, thanks to the participants. Once again this year Chef Wright and several students will appear of PA LIVE on WBRE on March 15th to discuss the event.

ber of Commerce and President Bob Garrett. The Gala will be held at La Primavera Restaurant in Lewisburg. This dinner, dance, show and game filled evening will be unique for this area. Entitled “A BLAST FROM THE PAST GALA”, the event will take place from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm and will feature the magnificent Italian cuisine of Owner and Chef Vito Mazzamuto, served as an all-you-caneat buffet in the outdoor pavilion at the restaurant. During and after the meal there will be dancing to an orchestra and the presentation of a mini-show
called “Broadway’s Funniest Songs” performed by a group of talented locals. Lieberman will be conducting auditions in early summer for the event. He has already had volunteers from former stars of the plays performed at the Courtyard Theater. The school is also hopeful of getting participation from some talented former students of SUN Tech. All in all, they are anticipation 12 performers with good singing and acting abilities to “sell’ the songs. Finally, a unique game will be played and people seated at each table will be teamed and compete for priz-
es. The game called “Simon Says Scavenger Hunt with a Twist” has been a huge hit at various RV Parks in this country. Five prizes will be awarded to the winners. Tickets to this feast and fun event are $25 per person and all proceeds will be going to the SUN Tech Foundation. Tickets to the Gala will go on sale in the spring and reservations will be required in advance. The tickets can be purchased over the Internet or by phone and instructions on how to order will be available soon. Reservations may be made up to the day before the Gala. Don’t miss either event!
