THE VIEWFINDER

Well, it is November…..and you guessed it, the word circling around in my brain is “Thankfulness”. Truthfully, being thankful is in my head (and heart) most of the time (not just November), but thoughts of being grateful tend to intensify as I reflect on Thanksgiving.

PPGH WORKSHOP SERIES PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

CONTENTS

Now, I don’t want to mislead you, I have plenty of “grumpy, poor me” moments, Fortunately, I don’t live there for long. Teri Whittaker, CPP As crazy as it might sound, I frequently give thanks for being able to do the laundry and the dishes. I will tell you that I seriously dislike doing the laundry and the dishes; however, I recognize that there may come a day when I have to rely on someone else to do those tasks because I am no longer capable of it. So I will celebrate the ability to perform chores that I don’t love. I also appreciate that I can recognize and celebrate little things that I can identify now, that I couldn’t see a when I was new to photography. Julianne Kost was presenting at Imaging USA quite a few years ago, and as she worked through one of the Adobe products, she commented that the image was too blue. I honestly couldn’t see what she was talking about. I couldn’t “see the blue(ness)” of the image. Then, a couple of years ago, I was looking out into my backyard as I washed the dishes (the disliked task that I am grateful I can do!) and I had a fleeting thought of how blue the shadows looked in the plants and then had the conscious thought that I was “seeing the blue”. I loved the realization. I am appreciative that painstakingly, moment-by-moment and inch-by-inch, various aspects of this thing I love to do (photography) have just been incorporated into me. As we head into Thanksgiving, I hope we all can give thanks for our capabilities, regardless of our current challenges. I also pray that you will celebrate your achievements, both small and large, and that you will find joy in your equivalent of “seeing the blue”. I look forward to seeing you on November 15th! Teri PS #1 -Please mark Sunday, December 4th on your calendar. We will be having our Annual Holiday Party and Awards Program. It will be an opportunity to actually visit with one another in addition to celebrating our award recipients. PS #2 - Don’t forget that Imaging USA 2017 is in San Antonio. Sign up now and make your hotel reservations! Take advantage of it! The convention is January 8th through the 10th with pre-convention classes beginning January 5th. CRACKING THE SOCIAL MEDIA MARKETING NUT LinkedIn: Target professional engagements, corporate parties, and professional headshots

Facebook: Reach multiple generations of mothers, along with brides Drip eMail Campaigns: Use for seasonal promotions and for multi-generational family portrait sessions around key holidays where family gatherings are the norm

FROM OUR MEMBERS

Blog posts: Develop informational blog posts that can be used to establish myself as a trusted authority in creating memories and designing artwork for display in homes As a single owner/operator, I have found it hard to find the time and energy to switch from newsletters and traditional mail outs to taking full advantage of social media to connect with existing and potential clients. So, I enlisted the help of Sarah Cook, an experienced Product Marketer with a focus on Messaging and Social Media. While Sarah works in high tech, she has close family ties to the professional photography business and has always kept a finger in small business marketing. Sarah provided hands-on, in-person training and helped me to develop a strategy and lay a foundation that I can build on for accelerating my marketing over the next few years. We broke it down into fairly simple steps: • Identify my target audience and the appropriate products/services for each segment of that audience

THE VIEWFINDER

• Determine which platforms and communication methods would be most effective for each market segment, accounting for preferred communication styles for generations ranging from Millennials to Baby Boomers. • Update website and social media accounts and create new accounts on platforms as needed. • Enlisting help and using tools such as Hootsuite or Buffer to simplify management of the various platforms and to aid in being proactive and consistent with my messaging. Since most of my decision makers and prospective clients are women, we focused on that demographic, and came up with this strategy for use of the various properties and campaign mediums: Twitter: Target brides and young mothers Instagram: Target brides and young mothers plus senior portraits Pinterest: Target brides and young to middle-aged mothers plus senior portraits

Updating my website was also addressed as an immediate need to use as a point of reference to support my blogs and posts. Sarah also explained how I can repurpose content to get the most mileage out of the effort that it takes to create material. With these tools, I can move forward into the brave new world of 21st century marketing, lessening my dependency on printed materials for reaching new clients and reducing the cost of using traditional mailing methods. As our culture moves more and more towards a paperless society, keeping our marketing relevant and making certain we generate the best return on investment for our dollars will be key to success.
