DIVOTS April 2, 2016 From the Pro Kim Griggs PGA Season Winding Down April is a busy but fun month with the Men’s Member-Guest and also the Men’s and Ladies 9 hole clubs will have their Club Championships throughout the month. Aerifying Greens The greens will be aerified on April 18 & 19. The back 9 will be closed on Monday and you play the front 9 twice. The front 9 will be closed on Tuesday and you will play the back 9 twice. Range Baskets & Balls I have been noticing that our range basket supply has been getting smaller and that residents are taking range balls (in our baskets) home at night. I ask that you please do not do this as it makes our supply low for those who are actually here on property to use these items. Handicap Flags We provide handicap flags in the golf shop for golfers who need them. Please take the time to check your garages to see if you have accidentally taken our flag home with you. Our supply is very low. We ask that you please do not take them home with you
Golf Pro Tip Playing with the correct equipment: So often I will give a lesson and I will discover that my student is playing with outdated equipment that does not fit their game. For example, if a lady has a bag full of steel shafted irons and woods, she probably needs to try some Ladies clubs with a graphite shaft. The weight difference is amazing as well as the hitting area. Take advantage of the newest technology as much as possible. This does mean that you have to go out and purchase an expensive set of clubs. I can help you find a very good set of clubs at an inexpensive price. Please come and see me if you think your equipment is outdated and Rick or I will take a look. Tee Box on # 17 It has been brought to my attention that carts have been driving around the side of the tee box on # 17. This is not a cut through for golfers; it is for employee use only. Thank you. Frank Thayer As most of you already know Frank Thayer is moving to Goodyear AZ to be with his wife Pam and help her with her business. We are having a going away party for Frank on Sun April 17 th
from 2-4 pm in the Auditorium. There will be light snacks and a cash bar (beverage cart) on site. Please stop by and say “see you later” (not goodbye). We will miss Frank’s bubbly personality and his cooking Frank has been an absolute gem in the golf shop for 8 years. Thank you Frank for being such a special person!! From the Assistant Rick Sample PGA Recently I have had some people asking about what the requirements are to become a P.G.A. professional. I thought I would take this opportunity to let everyone know some of the things required for P.G.A. membership. As I’m sure everyone is aware, you have to pass a playing ability test. You are required to play 2 rounds in a given day and meet a maximum score for the 2 rounds or below. If you don’t pass you may retake the test at a future date.
In level 1 the subjects include Customer Relations, Introduction to Teaching and Golf Club Performance, Business Planning and Tournament Operations. In level 2 subjects include Turf grass management, Golf operations, Intermediate teaching and golf club alteration and Merchandise & Inventory management. In level 3 subjects include Human Resources-Supervising & delegating, Advanced Teaching & Golf Club Fitting, Player Development Programs & Teaching Business and Career Enhancement. So as you can see there is quite a lot that goes into becoming a P.G.A. Professional. The program takes on average between 3 to 5 years to complete and by the time you complete it you will have spent over $9000. Calendar of Events
Then there are 3 levels of instruction you must pass.
Apr 7, 14 – 9 Hole Men’s Club Championships.
In each level you must complete books on various subjects which have to be sent to the P.G.A. headquarters in Florida to be reviewed. If your books pass review you will then fly to Florida for a weeklong seminar and at the end of the seminar you must pass a knowledge test on the subjects involved in that level to progress in the program.
