Divots Oct 1, 2015
From the Pro Kim Griggs, PGA Looks like more and more snowbirds are making their way back to Sun City. We had a pretty hot and humid summer this year, and some pretty good monsoon action. Just to get you up to speed a little; we have decided to continue to have our clubs (9 hole & 18 hole) sign up for weekly play in the books provided in the back of the golf shop. When you are finished with the books, please return them back in the holders for the next person. Cart Path Restrictions Carts shall remain on the paths until the end of the month. If you use a handicap flag, you will be able to drive in the rough on the cart path side only. Nobody will be permitted to drive on the fairway to reach the other side (rough). This includes no driving behind the greens or tee boxes to get to the other side.
Golf Course Care The golf course needs your help! During this time when we are keeping our golf carts on the cart paths, please help keep your course in the best of shape by carrying your sand and seed bottle with you when walking out to your ball. Also, please fix your ball mark and one more on each and every green you play. Fixing Divots Just a reminder from Mike Kropf. Please DO NOT fix your divots in the rough. Please put sand and seed in your divots in the fairway ONLY! Golf Cars In an effort to keep our grass growing, we ask that everyone please keep all four tires of their golf cars on the cart path around tee boxes and greens at all times. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Pro Shop Hours of Operation The Pro Shop hours are as follows in October during over seeding. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to stop by the shop and ask. 27-2a/1 Announcement of Provisional Ball Q: A player hits his ball into an area where it may be lost outside a water hazard or out of bounds. The player then drops another ball and plays it. The player intends the dropped ball to be a provisional ball, but he does not inform his opponent, marker or fellowcompetitor that he is "playing a provisional ball." In such a situation, can a player's actions constitute announcement that he is playing a provisional ball? A: No. Rule 27-2a specifically provides that the player must inform his opponent, marker or fellow-competitor that he intends to play a provisional ball.
The player's statement must specifically mention the words "provisional ball" or must make it clear that he is proceeding under Rule 27-2a. Therefore, a player who says nothing has put another ball into play. The following are examples of statements that do not satisfy the requirement of announcing a provisional ball: (a) "That might be lost. I am going to reload." (b) "That might be out of here." (c) "I'd better hit another one." (d) "I will never find that one. I'll play another." 27-2b/4 Provisional Ball Played from Beyond Where Original Ball Likely to Be But Not Beyond Where Original Ball Found Q: A player, believing his tee shot might be lost or on a road defined as out of bounds, played a provisional ball. He searched for his original ball but did not find it. He went forward and played his provisional ball. Then he went further forward and found his original ball in bounds. The original ball must have bounced down the road and then come back into bounds, because it was found much farther from the tee than anticipated. Was the original ball still the ball in play? A: No. The player played a stroke with the provisional ball from a point nearer the hole than the place where the original
ball was likely to be. When he did so, the provisional ball became the ball in play and the original ball was lost -Rule 27-2b. The place where the original ball in fact lay was irrelevant. 13-2/35 Removal of Dew or Frost Except on the teeing ground, the removal of dew or frost from the area immediately behind or to the side of a player's ball is not permitted. Such action is deemed to improve the position or lie of the ball or the area of the player's intended swing and is a breach of Rule 13-2, unless it occurs incidentally to some other action permitted under the Rules, such as in addressing the ball or removing loose impediments. Additionally, the removal of dew or frost from the player's line of play or line of putt is not permitted. Such action is deemed to improve the line and is a breach of Rule 13-2 or, on the putting green, Rule 16-1a, unless it occurs incidentally to some other action permitted under the Rules, such as in removing loose impediments, repairing ball marks on the putting green or addressing the ball. (Revised) 11-4b/6 Ball Played from Outside Teeing Ground Goes Out of Bounds Q: In stroke play, A played from outside the teeing ground and his ball came to rest out of bounds. He played another ball from within the teeing ground. Is he penalized stroke and distance under
Rule 27-1, as well as two strokes under Rule 11-4b? A: No. A is penalized only two strokes under Rule 11-4b. The ball played from outside the teeing ground was not in play. Therefore, the fact that it came to rest out of bounds was irrelevant and the stroke itself did not count. Golf Pro Tip Every golf course has pace of play issues, however most of the time this can be avoided by using some simple golf
course etiquette and common sense. Here are a couple of suggestions to speed up play: Be aware of the group in front of you. Look ahead and not behind. Think about your next shot as you go to your ball. There are many other tips for improving “pace of play”. Please stop by and see Rick or myself for other ideas.
