ood afternoon everyone and a very warm welcome to York Road for our match this afternoon against a team of Aston Villa Legends. We are pleased that a large number of former international players have travelled from the Midlands to take on our team of Maidenhead United legends, led by Tim Cook who represented the club over 375 times. I am sure many of you will remember the 1982 European Cup Final when Aston Villa managed to overcome a very strong Bayern Munich team full of
sented Germany in the 1982 World Cup Finals. This included the legendary KarlHeinz Rummenigge who is now CEO of the club. I am therefore delighted that so many of that Aston Villa’s team are involved in today’s match and I am looking forward to what I am sure will be a keenly contested game . I hope that you will take the opportunity to look at our plans for the ground development. MEET THE MAGPIES Adrian Allen (Attack) Lightning fast striker, “Sicknote” had three spells at York Road. Originally made his name at Leyton Pennant in the late 90s following an earlier spell at Clapton, and signed for Maidenhead in March 2000 in time to help the Magpies win promotion and went onto become a key member of the squad which established the club in the Isthmian Premier Division. Appearances (Full + Substitute): 70 + 48. Goals: 32 Franny Araguez (Defence) Started his career at West Brom and had a spell at Malaga in his native Spain but spent most of his career in the Thames Valley playing for Slough, Windsor, Marlow, Burnham and the Magpies who he joined in the summer of 1991. Appearances : 148 + 37. Goals: 5. Kevin Brown (Defence) Known as “Sarge” due to his full time career in the police force, Kevin arrived at York Road in the summer of 1992 and stayed for six seasons. Became a regular in the team midway through the 1994/95 campaign playing either at left back or in the centre of defence. Ever present in the unforgettable Isthmian Full Members cup winning run which broke the club’s 27 year drought without a trophy. Appearances : 150 + 30. Goals: 3. Brian Connor (Defence) Magpies legend who stands fourth on the all-time list of appearances, a fact that was recognised by a rare testimonial match in 2005. Brian started his career at QPR and went

on to play for Slough, Chesham, Windsor and Marlow. Brian soon came into his own in the centre of defence hardly missing a game throughout his nine seasons at the club. Started all 61 matches played by the Magpies during the 1998/99 season. Appearances: 368 + 52. Goals: 5. Tim Cook (Defence) Shy and retiring character who had two spells as club captain due to his powers of tact and diplomacy. Signed by the Magpies for a fee from Burnham in the summer of 1993 he was a regular at York Road for nine seasons bar a short spell at Thame in 1996. Originally a tough tackling midfielder, Tim was moved back into the centre of defence in the second spell of his United career under Alan Devonshire. Leading from the front Tim captained the side to promotion to the Isthmian League Premier Division in 2000. Went onto play for Chesham and has managed Marlow and Henley. Appearances : 367 + 5. Goals: 26. Micky Creighton (Attack) Known as “Vialli” due to his closely cropped hair, Mickey spent virtually the whole of the 90s at York Road, arriving in the summer of 1991 and ending up as a member of the promotion squad in 2000, scoring once in the 1997 Full Members Cup Final and twice in the 1999 County Cup Final win. Club’s golden boot winner in 1997 and 1998. Appearances: 198 + 108. Goals: 78. Steve Croxford (Defence) The only Maidonian to forge a successful career at York Road in the last 25

years, Crocko was a graduate of the Youth team, making his full debut at the age of 19 in August 1991. Always watched by parents Ray and Ann he eventually had three spells at York Road playing for Walton & Hersham, Staines, Uxbridge, Kingstonian and Marlow in between. Appearances: 206 + 23. Goals: 15. Kieron Drake (Goal) Arriving at the club in late 1998 from Oxford City, Kieron took over from Trevor Roffey as first choice goalkeeper in the latter half of his first season, playing every minute of the successful 1999 County Cup campaign which ended with a 4-1 over Wycombe Wanderers in the final. Appearances: 37 + 3. Chris Ferdinand (Utility) “Ferdy” will go down forever in Magpie folklore as the man who scored the goal which won promotion in the penultimate game of the 1999-2000 season against champions Croydon. Ironically scored the first as well as the last United goal of this unforgettable campaign on his opening day debut. Also scored direct from a corner at Romford. Appearances: 129+16. Goals: 9. Matt Glynn (Midfield) Prodigiously talented midfielder with an eye for goal who was only stopped from having the opportunity to play professionally by serious injuries. Matt started his career at Flackwell Heath moving onto Windsor before originally joining the Magpies in the summer of 2000. After three successful years with United, Appearances: 93+40. Goals: 25.
Steve Hale (Attack) Free scoring all action striker Steve rejoined his long time attacking partner Lawrence Yaku at York Road for a twelve month stay in October 2003, scoring the only goal of the game on his debut at Billericay. Previously rewrote Isthmian League goalscoring records with Yaku at Northwood. Their most memorable double act in United colours was scoring a goal apiece at Conference side Halifax in a 2-0 FA Trophy win. Still holds the Maidenhead United all comers record for the shortest time taken to get changed after the final whistle and have a post match pint in the bar. Appearances: 29+12. Goals 12. Tyrone Houston (Defence) Nippy right back signed from Slough in the summer of 1994, having also spent the 1992-93 season at York Road. His Maidenhead career blossomed when Alan Devonshire converted him into a wing back which led to a haul of 11 goals in the 1996/97 season including the final one in the 3-1 Full Members Cup Semi-final win over Sutton United. Went onto play in the final Barry Rake (Midfield) of that competition and also has a 1999 County Cup winners medal. One of the best talents to have donned the Black and White stripes, Appearances: 212+42. Goals 16. Neville Roach (Attack) Began his career at his home town club Reading, but with first team football hard to come by he moved onto play league football for Southend, Oldham, Torquay, and Oxford United. Arrived at York Road in 2006 after thriving at Basingstoke Town, scoring some vital goals for the Magpies in their successful run to the Southern League Play Offs. After retirement managed
Hartley Wintney and remains involved in local football with Highmoor Ibis. Appearances: 29+5. Goals: 13. Yashua Romeo (Attack) Reading born front man who has been a prolific scorer at the lower levels of the Non League game. Spent a season playing for the United reserves in the early nougthies but could not break into the first team squad. After success at Marlow and Burnham, Yash returned to York Road in January 2006, winning the Club’s golden boot award in his first full season, including United’s goal in their 2-1 defeat to MK Dons in the 2007 County Cup Final. Currently plays for Thatcham Town. Appearances: 27+62. Goals: 18. Steve Small (Midfield) Diminutive winger who played for the Magpies during the latter half of the 1995-96

Ken McNaught born 11 January 1955 in Kirkcaldyis a former Scottish footballer who played for Aston Villa from 1977–1983 and was part of their Championship winning side of 1981, European Cup victory in 1982 and won the European Super Cup in 1983 against Barcelona, scoring one of Villa's goals in the latter final. McNaught's father was Scottish international footballer Willie McNaught. After impressing in the final against Villa he was signed by the Birmingham club at the season's end. It was at Villa where McNaught's career reached its zenith with silverware in the League, European Cup and European Super Cup in which he scored against Barcelona.
Gordon Cowans born 27 October 1958 in County Durham . Cowans started his career at Aston Villa as an apprentice in 1974, and signed as a professional in 1976. During his time at Aston Villa, he won the League Cup, the League Championship, the European Cup and the European Super Cup. Gordon has returned once again to Aston Villa in a coaching role, first coaching in their youth academy before becoming first team coach and more recently taking on the role of reserve team manager after Kevin MacDonald left under Paul Lambert's new regime.
Pat Heard born 17 March 1960 in Kingston upon Hull is a retired English football midfielder and left-back. In October 1979, the young midfielder was signed by Aston Villa at a valuation of £100,000 (2013: £380,000) in a deal which saw John Gidman move the other way. Heard made nine appearances in his first season at Villa Park but was not one of just 14 players used by Ron Saunders to become League champions in the following season. His single goal came during a 4-3 defeat to Arsenal at Highbury in March 1982. Pat won a European Cup medal after being named as a non-playing substitute for the 1982 European Cup Final.

Born in Birmingham, Hendrie was red carded on his debut for Aston Villa as a substitute in a 1–0 defeat at Queens Park Rangers on 23 December 1995. He went on to achieve the accolade of the club's "Young Player of the Season" award in the 1997–98 season. After losing his place in the Villa team during the 2005–06 season it seemed Hendrie's long spell at Villa Park was coming to an end, with Portsmouth reportedly showing an interest in his services. On 29 September he joined Stoke City on loan, on the recommendation of his father. On 30 January 2007, he extended his loan spell with the Potters until the end of the 2006–07 season. Whilst at Aston Villa he played in the 2000 FA Cup Final.
A skilful, nippy winger, Morley enjoyed the best days of his career at Villa Park. He was seen as a wayward genius but was moulded by manager Ron Saunders into one of the most dangerous players around. He was famed for scoring spectacular goals, in particular one against Everton at Goodison Park which won him the 'Goal of the Season' award for 1980–81. He was a vital part of the Villa side that won the League Championship in 1980–81 and the European Cup the year after. His brilliant dribble and cross set up Peter Withe for the winning goal against Bayern Munich in the final. His full Villa record was 170 appearances, 34 goals.
Turning professional in November 1972. He made his only appearance for Scotland while with Hibs in March 1976, coming on as a substitute for Kenny Dalglish in the game against Switzerland. He moved to Aston Villa in 1979 for a fee of £275,000 and quickly settled as a regular in the side. In his second season with the club he was an ever-present as they took the Football League title, their first for 71 years. The following season Bremner was a member of Villa's European Cupwinning side. He left the club in September 1984, rejoining his former Villa manager Ron Saunders, who by then was managing local rivals Birmingham City.

THE STAND
W
ork may have only begun last Monday on the new railway side stand but yesterday the public saw much work had already been done. Work begins on the new railway side stand to ensure the new 550 seater stand is ready for the start of the 2014/15 pre season, the 14 week project began on Monday, with the first job to provide alternative seating for those that require it for the rest of this season. This meant temporary seats were installed in the Disabled enclosure and the Maidenhead Advertiser East Terrace. Meanwhile all but the framework of the existing railway side structure has been removed enabling supporters to
see right through to the railway embankment. The whole of the south side of the ground is now out of bounds for the rest of the season whilst work continues. Thus the club shop is temporarily closed although merchandise can still be purchased from Stripes before 1st team home games. Sponsorship of seats in the new stand is still available. Seats cost ÂŁ100 each with the sponsors name (or chosen wording) being displayed on the seat and a plaque at the back of the new stand. he Berks and Bucks Lions Club was formed in the autumn of 2013 by Steve Henson, to act as a focal point for Aston Villa supporters in the local area. We ran a recent coach trip to the sold out Manchester Utd home match and will be looking to increase the number of trips to matches during the 2014/15 season We are very proud of our close association with the local Celtic Supporters Club and jointly ran a very successful race night evening last month in aid of the Stilliyan Petrov Foundation which raised ÂŁ1000 for his charity. The Lions club meets in our new home at The Ark (20 Ray Street, Maidenhead, Berks SL6 8PX) on a monthly basis during the season and new members can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome, our thanks go to landlady Brenda for
