SNAILBEACH WHITE STARS FC

OUR CAUSE

WELCOME

Historically, Snailbeach White Stars have been one of the most successful teams in Shropshire. The club won the old County Premier League an impressive six times in a decade spanning the late 1960's to the early 1980's. Over the course of these trophy-laden years the team has included some top quality footballers, some of whom have gone on to great heights. However, in the late 1990's the club started to disintegrate and eventually the team became defunct. In the post millennium years various sides continued to use the club and its pitches, but not under the Snailbeach White Stars name. However, in 2012 the club reformed a side under the old name and suddenly Snailbeach was back on the Shropshire footballing map. Now the club is playing in the Greenhouse Shrewsbury and District Sunday League. There are a healthy amount of good quality players signed on and the club could not be in a healthier shape in terms of personnel. However, you may notice that, unfortunately, the same cannot be said of the clubhouse itself. The "temporary" structure is in need of some serious TLC. The wooden pavilion has been on site for well over forty years and, in truth, is hardly fit for purpose anymore. That is why we have organised events, such as this one today, to try and get more interest back in the club and generate finances to renew the facilities. Your support today is crucial as it enables the club to keep running, not only for the senior team, but for the children who use the club for training on week nights. It is hoped that in the not to distant future the club will be home to a new facility that can used for generations to come, just as the current one has been! Jordan Knill.Manager

The Aston Villa Old Stars team has played up to twenty-five fundraising matches every year throughout the UK, and in Ireland, the Channel Islands, Cyprus, Holland, France, Spain, Bulgaria and Germany. Since 1960, the names of the former players to have appeared in the Aston Villa Old Stars team reads like an Aston Villa Who’s Who? The following is just a small selection of the great names to have played in the team. Many of these former professional footballers have achieved the highest honours available in the game and in today’s multi-billion pound professional football environment; it is highly commendable to see so many great players giving their time and commitment, without payment, in support of a deserving cause. The Aston Villa Old Stars team and Aston Villa Former Players Association (founded 1995) have helped to raise millions of pounds for charitable and deserving causes and they are, without doubt, the leading former players’ team in the UK.
