This coming Saturday the 16th of June, Kahu Youth will once again be celebrating Matariki at the Dinosaur Park. We are now in our third year, and this event just keeps on growing! This year there will be two bonfires on the beach to keep us all warm in the cold winter evening plus a whole host of workshops, storytelling, kapa haka and fire poi performances all organised and run by local people. Not only that, there will be a much bigger community hangi than last year and new this year, to top it all off, we will be finishing the evening with a massive fireworks display! This is a real community event, and the sheer volume of young (and older!) members of the community pulling together to make this happen has yet again taken our breath away. We are truly humbled by you all. We would like to extend a massive thank you to (In no particular order); Te puni kokiri, Radio
Wanaka & Roy FM, Mitre 10, Snow Drifta, Wanaka Mediterranean Market, The QLDC, Lakes Environmental, The Wanaka Sun, Our own local secret philanthropic pyromaniac (You know who you are!), M.A.C students in the community plus all the phenomenal local young people and adults alike who have been working tirelessly behind the scenes for the last few weeks to help pull this all together. Without all of you doing what you do, and giving what you give, we couldn’t come close to pulling this off.
