Spring has sprung and the gardens are in full bloom but unfortunately this has brought unwelcome visitors to some properties. Terry The Tarantula and Ruby The Red Back have been caught trespassing again. Last week they were found walking down a private driveway stealing flowers. Spiders are particularly fond of flowers and are commonly found in gardens. Flowers like primroses and buttercups provide an excellent place for spiders to hide as they lay in wait for their prey, while their stems make a useful location for building webs. We have had only a few arrests this week which is great from our point of view as it frees staff up to get stuck into crime prevention and traffic patrolling. Following enquiries into the damage caused at the old Wanaka Primary School on Tenby Street, two local youths have been referred to Youth Aid for their actions and involvement in some of the damage done at that location. Police continue to patrol the CBD area and enforce the local liquor ban, as a result staff dealt with a local 16 year old male who has also been referred to Youth Aid. A local male was processed by Police under the boy racer provisions for sustained loss of traction (wheelies) in a local residential street. He will be attending Court for his driving behaviour. Police also processed another local male for disqualified driving, who was arrested and charged. And yet another local male was arrested for wilful damage following a domestic incident. A male from out of the town was processed for driving with excess breath alcohol over the weekend. A letterbox was also set alight with fireworks over the weekend. Dangerous considering the close proximity of the house at the address and the wind - far higher value damage was at risk. I'm picking with the increase in local youth coming to our attention over the last couple of weeks, school must almost be done for the year. - Watch your behaviour and/or your alcohol consumption, - it may seem fun at the time, but the next day when you realise there are consequences, there is no fun involved.
