As part of their role the Community Response Forum met with representatives from local social service agencies earlier this week to learn about the gaps and needs for services in the Upper Clutha. The Community Response Forum takes this information back to the Minister of Social Development.

Council Snippets Big issues - Have your say Two of the big issues facing the Queenstown Lakes District – where we live and what form that takes - are now open for feedback as the District Plan review looks at growth boundaries and residential zones.

Changes are being proposed around rules relating to dwellings - things like where a house can be built, how high the fences can be and how close to the boundary it can be.

A growth boundary for Queenstown is also proposed. Growth boundaries help townships grow in a practical way, make it easier to plan for future infrastructure and help protect our rural landscape. The proposed growth boundary for Queenstown includes all land that is currently or about to be zoned residential and contains enough capacity to provide for forecast growth through to 2031, if not beyond. !

BIBI KHANUM MOSQUE AND MAUSOLEUM - a notable tourist attraction in Samarkand. The mosque constructed in the 14th/15th century by the then ruler of Samarkand was built in a huge rectangle with a very imposing entrance archway. The major mosque has a massive drum covered with islamic inscriptions and topped with a huge blue dome. Unfortunately the Bibi Khanum didn’t survive the conquests and tests of time very well. But, major restoration works began in the late 1900s, and much has been restored.

With the fit out for the new CT Scanner Suite estimated to cost $250,000 the combined Lions Clubs and Rotary Clubs of Central Otago have accepted the challenge to raise the money required. The friends of Lake Dunstan Hospital have pledged the first $100,000 and it is now up to us to find the balance of $150,000 but we cannot do it without your help.

PEMBROKE PARK NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT One of the features that help to make Wanaka a special place must surely be Pembroke Park.

Classified as a Recreational Reserve under the Reserves Act, only parking that is directly related to recreational activity can be located on the reserve.

Pembroke Park is administered by QLDC with one of Councilâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Management Objectives being â&#x20AC;&#x153;to preserve in Perpetuity Pembroke Park as a recreational area for the enjoyment of the people and the visitors to Wanaka.â&#x20AC;?

With these provisions securely in place one would expect Pembroke Park to be secure for future generations.

Sadly, because Council have not played by the rules when addressing parking requirements for our growing town, this is not the case.

At the Dungarvon Street end of Pembroke Park Council developed a large car park and then doubled the size of it.

This car park predominantly serves as a car park for the central business district.

Council now want to encroach into Pembroke Park on the Brownston Street frontage and relocate the post and chain further into the reserve to provide more parking.

In exchange some areas of road reserve will be designated as reserve land. These road reserve areas come right to the edge of the road and are completely unsuitable as recreational reserve.
