These positions will assist in supervising the beef boning operation at Finegand and will report to the Senior Boning Room Supervisor.

The Beef Boning Supervisors will be responsible for leadership of the boning room operations, health and safety, personnel management, including coaching employees, and working on production projects when required. It has been a busy week in Wanaka in terms of reported crime. Here is a brief summation of that crime:

There was the theft of prescription drugs from a glove box of a car parked in the Dungarvon St public car park last Monday. Then overnight on the 30th a small digger parked on Mt Aspiring Road was converted and damage to a nearby reserve resulted. I understand that the actions of the offenders were noted but no one thought to ring 111 and get police to the scene.

On the evening of the 3rd September a car parked in the reserve of Kinnibeg Street in Albert Town has had its front and rear lights and rear windscreen smashed. An I-pod was stolen from the dash.

Last week the door to a house in Scaife Place was kicked in and we presume entry was gained to the house. There was no sign of any thing taken. It is suspected someone may have slept on a bed.

This was a solid door and I am surprised no one heard this and rang police. A caravan was also entered in Albert Town.

During the week there was also a number of instances of damage reported. A letter box in Hedditch Street was damaged, a wing mirror ripped off a car in Rata Street and the public toilets on the lake front were damaged. Over the last month we have received many damage complaints. I suspect most are caused by revellers heading home after the bars have shut.

There were also a number of thefts of jackets reported from bars.

Thankfully some of those have been cleared up as mistakenly taken and returned. There was also a snow board stolen from Cardrona, an I Phone from Snow Park and a bag from the lake front.

On 1st September at about 2.oopm, we received as call that a jet boat off Water Fall Creek was taking on water and they needed assistance. We engaged the services of Lakeland Adventures and they quickly travelled to the area and rescued the occupants.

Finally although reported crime was well above average there were only three arrests (possession of cannabis, breach of the liquor ban, warrant to arrest), and one drink driver who blew 835mg. This chap was 18 years of age, where the legal limit is 150mg.

In Wanaka the police aim is to reduce crime by 5% each year, over the next three years. For us to achieve this we really need the community to help. Firstly if you see something suspicious ring us immediately. Do not be scared to ring 111, often all our staff are out in vehicles and not answering the non emergency number. Also please, each one of you, remember to look after your own property.

Remove property from cars including the keys (yes the keys) and lock it up. Also if you are heading out for a nights socialising do not leave bags and coats unattended. Have someone stay with them or go to entertainment locations that provide coat checks.

Terry The Tarantula and Ruby The Red Back have been caught breaking and entering. Nothing was reported stolen but it would appear that the spiders did sleep the night at the property. They may also have spent time playing card games during their stay.

Experts were able to identify Ruby and Terry as the trespassers having found spiders' webs at the crime scene. Spiders are known to reuse their webs so there is some concern that Terry and Ruby had planned to return to the property at a later date.

While only one breaking and entering incident has been reported so far, experts suspect that the spiders have targeted other homes. If you find evidence of a visit, particularly in the form of webs, please report it immediately.
