Willowridge Wanakafest Willowridge Wanakafest at Pembroke Park is almost here! The Festival runs from 24 to 27 October with top musical acts, gourmet food and wine, and new family activities which are set to make it the biggest and best Festival yet.

For the first time, this year’s event will host a top New Zealand musical act in Kiwi rock royalty Don McGlashan. McGlashan is most widely known for his iconic song Anchor Me and has recently been touring with Dave Dobbyn.

Willowridge Wanakafest Event Organiser Laurel Morrison says securing McGlashan is just one of the many highlights for this year’s Festival.

“Thrill seekers are going to love this year’s Urban Downhill mountain bike race, which has a new twist that includes the Airbag Freedrop, and we’ll also be introducing the first Ruby Ridge Trolley Derby event “New for the kids is the Puzzling World Imagination Station with bubbles, magic, stilt walkers and balloon making.”

Wine and Food Festival will run over the Saturday and Sunday at Pembroke Park and will feature premium Central Otago wines and local gourmet food.

Lake Wanaka Tourism General Manager James Helmore says this year’s Festival will showcase some of Otago’s top talent, including celebrity chefs James Stapley and Bevan Smith.

“We have a great offering of local wines and produce this year with wineries such as Rippon, Maude Wines and Wild Earth Winery all taking part. We’ll also be promoting our local gourmet restaurants such as The Spice Room, Edgewater and Francesca’s Pizzas while Mojo coffee will be providing the coffee fix to keep patrons going throughout the four-day event.

It’s been a long time since I last wrote the Crime Line, so here goes.

There are still road closures on the Haast Pass as a result of last months slip, so keep an eye on the Land Transport NZ website for the latest updates. That’s where we get updates from.

Also it’s the time of year where road works are carried out on the local roads. There are delays on the Crown Range and plenty of road works. Keep your speed down to the temporary posted limits for the safety of the workers. We will be enforcing these areas for that purpose.

This week a male wearing a pirate costume on Ardmore Street walked up to an injured female who was sitting down and stole her crutches!?!?!?!

We arrested a male for breaching his bail conditions and another for being intoxicated and uncooperative on Saturday afternoon.

We took a complaint regarding the theft of petrol cans from an address at the SH6 end of Aubrey Road.

There has been an unusual event where a resident of Fastness Crescent reports that her dogs have been moved and tied up to things on the property, while she was at work. We would like to know who is responsible for this and why. It is concerning when a stranger comes uninvited onto a property and behaves like this.

One of our officers dealt with two suspicious groups of people in the early hours of Friday morning in town. One who had been on the roof of a building, saw the inside of the new Police Station.

We attended a complaint on Monday that a person was shooting on the lower banks of the Upper Clutha River near the Red Bridge; A shot ricocheted and hit a rock within 20 metres of the informant who was obviously very alarmed by the incident. Police spoke with two people who acknowledged that they had been shooting in the area. This is a timely reminder to all using a firearm to be aware of who else may be in the general area where you are shooting.
