Based on the 1990’s UK TV series ‘Stars In THEIR Eyes’ Jamie Robertson and the very musical smaller Wanaka community back then, began ‘Stars In YOUR Eyes.’ The beneficiaries sharing the $14,000 from

last year’s show are schools in the Upper Clutha region from Makarora to MAC and other Music minded ventures. The past week has seen the culmination of various ski-related activities, which has drawn a lot of people out to experience Wanaka after dark. Private functions and music gigs have contributed to the busiest weekend for a while. It is pleasing to walk through the pubs and be able to have a friendly chat with patrons who are all out to enjoy themselves. Remember, when we are in the hotels, we are not there to ruin your buzz, we are there to ensure people aren’t becoming so intoxicated that they are likely to cause trouble. While on the streets, 99% behaved themselves. The remaining 1% again showed their true colours when mixed with alcohol and a pack mentality. Sadly, those few that chose the "behave like an idiot" option were mostly local youths. They seem to think that it is their god-given ULJKW WR ÀRXW WKH ORFDO E\ ODZV DQG GLVUHVSHFW DOO ZKRP WKH\ FURVV Help us to spread the word that this town will not tolerate loutish and outright "loser" behaviour. One 20 year old male was locked up for Disorderly Behaviour after being warned plenty. He just couldn’t help himself and will now be facing the Judge. A second Wanaka male was arrested after one of the most cowardly assaults I have seen. A totally unprovoked attack on another male has seen the victim undergo surgery for a fractured eye socket and broken nose. Thanks to the CCTV footage and local security staff, this thug was apprehended with minimal fuss. Speaking of cowards‌some miscreant decided to tag a local resident's fence with some strong language aimed at the local Constabulary. I have news for you buddy - I have been abused by far scarier people than you. If you have any sort of nerve, come and see us personally - we would love a chat. A reminder to lock your vehicles and garages as there have been a couple of opportunistic thefts recently and most can be avoided by removing the temptation. We have had a couple of reports of males approaching school children after school. Please be vigilant and try not to let your child walk home alone and please, report any suspicious behaviour to your local Police. A positive note to end with is that driving behaviours have been markedly improved. This is possibly due to our increased presence over the last few weeks following some serious crashes, however, if I need to sit on Cardrona Valley Road to deter people speeding and overtaking dangerously, then so be it.
