We started collecting the Pink Ribbon Street Appeal in 2004, as there was no collection here in Wanaka, apart from the golf ladies collection. Every year has got bigger and the donations greater. The weather definitely plays a part in the amount raised.

The Alexandra Blossom Festival brought a few extra numbers into town for the weekend.

On Saturday there were several arrests. 3 males were arrested at Cardrona Ski field for using someone else's ski pass to ride the lifts.

A male was arrested later in the day for indecent exposure in an alcohol fuelled incident.

In the early hours of the morning a male was arrested for stealing a street sign.

Overnight, there was an attempted burglary to a property in Peninsula Bay. An offender tried, unsuccessfully, to enter the house - but has damaged property in doing so.

Overnight on Thursday, fairly extensive damage has been done to a property on Beacon Point Road, where the garage door has been kicked off its rollers. Further damage was done to the garden and further damage was done to the gardens of other residences along the road.

On Wednesday we received another report of a horse being tampered with along Aubrey Road. This one was tied with electrical cord. It appears obvious this is being done by someone nearby. If you have any information on who is tampering with these horses let us know.

Hopefully one of these horses will get cantankerous and give the offender a swift kick.

On Tuesday it was reported to us that someone tried the door of a house in Hawea. This has occurred before.

Recently there have been reports of offences and suspicious behaviour in the area. Keep your doors locked and you and your property safe.

We continue to trawl Cardrona Valley Road for driving offences, and this will continue for as long as the Boss sees fit. Keep your speed low and make good driving decisions.

PROPOSED WANAKA WATERSPORTS FACILITY OPEN LETTER TO THE RESIDENTS OF WANAKA, SUPPORTERS AND INTERESTED PARTIES Hello Everybody, I am Chairman of this project to build a facility to house the Multi-sport, Rowing, Swimming and Kayak Clubs of Wanaka. We have submitted the project to be included in the draft Lake Management Plan and this will be presented to the public in mid October. The Wanaka Council members have been very supportive.

The facility will provide changing, toilet and shower areas, boat storage for kayaks and rowing shells, an exercise room for ergs etc. There will be 2 external toilets for public use. There will be permanent bike stands attached to the outside of the building. The cladding is chosen to ensure the building is not easily seen, particularly in the autumn. There will be no social areas.

The purpose of the building is to offer a long term, permanent base for all Wanaka residents and visitors who are keen to utilize the exceptional recreational opportunities the lake and surrounds present. All swimmers and families will be able to get access to the changing area. Wanaka has to retain its young people and provide facilities where those with attitude can follow their dreams. This should provide that base for the next 50 years and beyond.

The proposed location is in front of the two redwoods to the west of the childrens playground, at the western end of Roys Bay. The outlook will be over the swimming lane.
