The 19th annual Challenge Wānaka Triathlon Festival returns from 13 -15 February 2025, bringing together over 2,500 athletes, from school students to elite professionals, on one of the world’s most scenic and challenging courses.
On Saturday, 15 February, more than 700 competitors will race in the middle-distance Challenge Wānaka Half, with athletes from New Zealand, Australia, USA, Canada, Germany, France, and beyond tackling a stunning swim - 1.9km, a demanding cycle along Wānaka-Mt Aspiring Road - 90km, and a scenic lakefront run - 21.1km. Locals are asked to plan ahead for road closures and delays. To accommodate this event, road
closures will be in place, including a hard closure on Friday (12.00 - 2.00pm) for the Secondary Schools race and Saturday (5.00am - 12.30pm) along Wānaka-Mt Aspiring Rd.

The Otago Community Hospice (OCH), with the support of the community and other health providers, deliver specialist palliative care to terminally ill patients and whānau throughout the Upper Clutha region.
“Hospice is not a building, it’s a philosophy of care and a suite of services primarily provided in a person’s home. So although you may not have an OCH inpatient unit (IPU) in your community, you still have access to ‘hospice’. Hospice is where you are.” said the OCH CEO, Ginny Green.
At any given time there are around 15 people in the Upper Clutha under OCH care. All services are free and funded in large part by our hospice shops and donations – including our annual street appeal on March 7.

The Wanaka Community Workshop (WCW) is thrilled to reopen after a temporary closure for a Health and Safety review. Fully compliant and refreshed, WCW is ready to welcome the community back to its Wood Workshop and Fabricate Sewing Workshop.
Leading the relaunch is Toni Mason, WCW’s new Operations Manager. Toni brings a wealth of experience from the building industry, volunteer organisations, and running a teaching art studio. The WCW Trustees are con dent her expertise and enthusiasm will revitalise the workshops and create a vibrant community hub. WCW invites volunteers to join community projects on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Fabricate is now open for members’ projects on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. However, the Wood Workshop requires experienced supervisors before it can reopen for private use. If you can help, please contact WCW urgently to support this important resource.

The role is flexible—you could oversee others while working on your own project for a few hours a week or lead a tutoring session on weekends or evenings. Supervisors can volunteer, and for the right candidate, a tutor’s fee may be available. We are unable to reopen the wood workshop without supervisors to ensure safe operations.
