Even though town has noticeably quietened in recent weeks we have had a busy week responding to a range of incidents.

A snap shot of the week that has been: A local business had a window broken when a slingshot was aimed in the wrong direction. Police attended and a group of local youths were spoken to and are being dealt with.

Police witness intoxicated people on a regular basis but a male visiting Wanaka for his stag do raised eyebrows for his behaviour, extreme level of intoxication and how scantily dressed he was. The male was arrested and detained for detox.

Police attended two minor vehicle accidents in the township. Both involved drivers at intersections failing to give way. $ UHPLQGHU WKDW WUHVSDVV QRWLFHV GULYLQJ GLVTXDOLÂżFDWLRQV 3ROLFH EDLO DQG or Court imposed bail will be enforced and if breached, (depending on the circumstances) will lead to arrest. In four separate incidents: A local male was arrested for breaching a trespass order and later in the week was arrested a second time for breaching his bail conditions.

A male was arrested for failure to appear, absconding and breaching bail conditions.

Also, a third male was arrested for breaching his bail conditions. $ PDOH ZDV VWRSSHG DQG DUUHVWHG IRU GULYLQJ ZKLOH GLVTXDOLÂżHG Wanaka Police were alerted that a foreign national tramping from the Mt Aspiring National Park towards Mt Cook had not made contact with associates and was possibly overdue. A Police staff member made extensive enquiries and the male was located safe and well. As summer approaches this is a good time to remind all heading into the back country to be adequately prepared, check weather conditions, and make sure someone reliable knows your intentions. It can also be a good back up to carry a personal locator beacon.

Tragically on the weekend, Police attended a fatal vehicle accident that occurred on the Crown Range Road. Police would like to thank the people who stopped to offer assistance at the scene and the witnesses who have since contacted Police to assist with enquiries. The investigation is ongoing and Police would like to speak to any people who directly witnessed the accident and or the vehicles involved prior to the accident.
