This is as much a tour as it is an affordable, convenient way to travel between Dunedin and Queenstown/ Wanaka without the responsibilities and costs of driving yourself. This bus route takes in such notables as… Lake Waihola… popular for water sports, the wetlands surrounding this shallow lake are home to many species of wading bird Lawrence… Otago’s first gold rush town that once had a population of 11,500. Today it’s a little over 500. Free wi-fi internet. Beaumont… depending on your direction of travel, your first or last bridge crossing over the mighty Clutha River/MataAu, New Zealand’s highest volume river. Ettrick… another gold rush town that these days is better known for apple packing sheds along the main street. Roxburgh… this once gold mining town continues to thrive as the service centre for New Zealand’s main apple growing region. Cherries and apricots are also deliciously important crops. Alexandra… this riverside town famous for its wonderful fruit-growing soils and climate is a favourite Central Otago holiday destination. Clyde… the highway gives a bird’s eye view of this quaint and historic township. Alongside the highway is the start/finish of the Otago Central Rail Trail. Clyde Dam… it took over a million cubic metres of concrete to construct this, New Zealand’s third largest dam. Cromwell… fast becoming the business centre of Central. Offers lots of activities including lake watersports, mountain bike riding, trails, etc.

The Cliffhangers’ members are a varied group of about fifty local children aged between seven and seventeen. The membership includes; those who travel to compete plus those who will in the future, children with disabilities and children who just enjoy climbing. They meet at Basecamp Wanaka Climbing Centre and are coached by Loz Ogle and Sarah Smith. The children are passionate and dedicated, with some climbing up to six hours a week. Sponsorship will assist them to purchase special climbing shoes, to participate in their next national competition, (which is being held in the North Island), including the purchase of a team uniform.
