WEDDING DATE: August 31st, 2019 LOCATION: Villa Caledon Inn (www.villacaledoninn.com), Caledon, ON PHOTOGRAPHY: Carly Krazter Photography (www.carlykratzerphotography.com) Guelph, ON "I found Carly through Instagram. I was on an endless search to find a photographer that shot real photos. Candid photos. After weeks of searching, I stumbled across her Instagram page and fell in love with her work, immediately, I was obsessed!" - L GUEST #: 60 COLOUR PALETTE: Steel grey, white, forest green & gold BRIDE ATTIRE: Essence of Australia from Sophie’s Gown Shoppe (www.sophiesgownshoppe.com) Mississauga, ON HAIR & MAKEUP: JK Glam (www.jkglam.com) Barrie, ON GROOM ATTIRE: HarryRosen.com FLORAL: Popi's Flowers Boutique (www.popisflowers.com) Bradford, ON DJ: Macmillian Entertainment (www.macmillangroup.com) Mississauga, ON TELL US YOUR STORY: "It was June or July 2015 – my memory isn’t as great as once was! When Facebook was thing, I left a message on my friend’s Facebook wall letting her know that I missed her, and wanted to hangout/get together soon. A friend of hers liked my post. To my surprise, it was a very good looking man. And being single, my first initial thought was “Who is this?!” I immediately texted my friend to start my investigation, but she can sometimes take long to respond, so, I decided to take matters into my own hands and message him directly. It could have gone two ways; he could have thought I was completely insane, or that my approach was charming. I risked it all and bet on the latter. Nothing crazy! I introduced myself, and told him not to think I was strange for trying to get his attention on Facebook. Little did I know! He had already messaged our friend asking about me and was trying to get my contact details. Long story short, he proposed one year later and we got married on August 31st, 2019." - L BIGGEST CHALLENGE: "Biggest challenge unfortunately was coordinating the family members that did not speak to each or interact with each other." - L BEST MEMORY: "Funny enough, it was taking our wedding/family photos! There were lots of jokes and laughter and everyone was just so elated and relaxed. Carly did such an amazing job at making everyone comfortable for photos. Such a seamless process." - L ADVICE: "The purpose of your wedding is to celebrate your love with the people that are the most important to you. Nothing else should matter." - L • 8 •The Wedding Ring Magazine | www.theweddingring.ca

WEDDING DATE: May 29th, 2021 LOCATION: Wheatfield Estate (www.wheatfieldestate.com), Sparta, ON PHOTOGRAPHY: HRM Photography (♥) (www.hrmphotography.com) London, ON "We found HRM Photography online. We only met with one other photographer because we already knew who we were going to chose. Heather was amazing to work with. Hasnain isn’t great at taking pictures, but she made him feel comfortable and relaxed. He still says choosing HRM Photography was the best decision we made. My favourite part of our photos was with just Hasnain and I, it was nice spending that time with him and goofing around. All of our photos exceeded our expectations and we couldn’t be happier with them!" - K GUEST #: 10 COLOUR PALETTE: Dusty blue and maroon BRIDE ATTIRE: Lavender Bridal Boutique (www.lavenderbridal.ca) London, ON GROOM ATTIRE: Tip Top Tailor (www.tiptop.ca) London, ON BRIDESMAID ATTIRE: Garber's Bridal (www.garbersbridal.com) London, ON TELL US YOUR STORY: "Hasnain and I first met in our place of work. When he came in his second day questioning if his position was a good fit for him, but when he found out he was working with me he decided to give it another chance. The rest is history! Neither of us still work for that company, but we sure do owe a lot to our time spent there. We were dating for just over 5 years when he proposed. It was at the Eldon House in London, ON. It’s a historic house and museum. We went for a walk through on December 29th, 2019, so it was all decorated for the holidays. He decided to do the proposal here because of my love for period dramas and Downton Abbey. He got down on one knee in front of the big Christmas tree in the living room. I was so shocked I couldn’t say yes right away. But when I did, I could hardly see the ring because my eyes were full of tears. It was a day I’ll never forget. Our wedding was a magical day. Although we struggled with a lot of aspects of our planning, everything still turned our wonderfully. At that time, we were only allowed 10 people, so all the people closest to us were there. We had a lot of fun and loved all the small details." - K BIGGEST CHALLENGE: "Our biggest challenge was working around government guidelines and regulations with the pandemic. We had to change our wedding venue last minute and our guest list a bunch of times. It was pretty chaotic, but we decided from the beginning that we didn’t want to postpone our wedding. We just wanted to be married." - K ADVICE: "Take your wedding planning one step at a time and have fun with it! Enjoy the little moments you and your partner share because things can get stressful very easily. Remember the most important thing is that you’re getting married. The rest is just detail." - K&H • WHERE FABULOUS LOCAL WEDDINGS BEGIN! • 11

When we were chatting with Jess, I just knew immediately that we would get along. Her love of Disney, the beautiful photographs, easy going nature - we just clicked! Little did I know there was a ring in Kevin's pocket and a photographer hiding amongst the rocks and the sheep! After such a beautiful start to our engagement, I couldn't wait to start wedding planning. Kevin and I have been together for 8 years and we love and appreciate each other deeply. We were both excited for a wedding and sharing the day with friends and family. It quickly became apparent that 2020 brides were miles ahead of us with their planning and availability was limited. We decided there was no rush and to pick a 2021 date, so we could take a more leisurely approach to wedding planning. Little did we know how lucky we would be to avoid a 2020 wedding!! As the pandemic unfolded, we kept our fingers crossed and hoped for a brighter 2021. We planned weddings by zone, step, guest count, you name it. Every time the restrictions changed, we re-planned! While it has made us both quite nimble, both of us were getting a bit tired of adapting and changing. In the end, every change we had to make worked out for the better. I know it is cliché to say that everything happens for a reason, but it does. Our venue was having some challenges so we ended up switching locations a month beforehand. If we hadn't switched, we would have been in the one public health region in the province that didn't re-open. So while cliché, it is also true.” – J ADVICE: "Remember the day is about you. We left our wedding with absolutely no regrets and I truly think it is because there were a couple of instances where we put ourselves first. While it is important to be accessible and realistic, if you try and make everyone happy, you will be the only ones stressed and struggling on our wedding day - which you definitely do not want! Set your boundaries together and stick to them. Most of the things people are going to ask you for are just 'bonuses' for them and they aren't actually that concerned. Focus on you and have a spectacular day!." – J&K • 12 •The Wedding Ring Magazine | www.theweddingring.ca

(www.unmistakablyyou.com) London, ON DOG ATTENDANT: Black Dog & Company (www.blackdogandcompany.ca) Lucan, ON TELL US YOUR STORY: "We got engaged in March 2019 in Mexico and from the get go I was super excited to plan our wedding. We originally had our date set for June 6th, 2020 and handpicked all our vendors. Picking the colour scheme, theme and florals was my favourite part. Being a florist, it was something I had thought about for a while! After putting our vision together, we were devastated to have to postpone when COVID hit and kept getting worse and worse. We tried to hang on to our original date but shortly after we postponed we went into our first lockdown so we were happy we made the decision when we did. As COVID-19 restrictions were often vague and open to interpretation, we had a few hiccups with vendors who were not feeling comfortable doing certain things. We didn’t ask for anything against the rules but with their livelihoods at stake it was completely understandable that some vendors erred on the side of caution. We brought in a few more vendors to fill the gaps and made it work. Leading up to the day it was very nerve wracking thinking that one day we would have an announcement stating we weren’t allowed to go through with our guest count (which had already been reduced from 139 to 50). Even a few days before the wedding we had a few people not able to come due to potential COVID risks. It was stressful but in the end it was all worth it. I’m so grateful we were able to celebrate with even the small number of family and friends." - A •

I searched everywhere; from hashtags on Instagram (#niagaraphotographer, #niagarawedding, etc.), through venue websites, looked at other weddings to see what vendors were tagged, and more. We loved the bright light coluring to Serena's photos and felt it would have a timeless look. We knew the pictures would also match the décor in our home. Serena's husband Jon was the second photographer and it was just like hanging out with another couple but while getting our pictures taken. They were laidback and fun but also professional and knew what they were doing. We had done an engagement shoot with them as well so when our wedding day came around, it was like hanging around with old friends! Our photos turned out beautiful and really captured the day! We both worked, and still work, at the same place but in different departments. They were looking for staff to be models in some photos. Despite not being ‘coupled up’ in the pictures, we certainly noticed each other. We started talking back and forth and eventually went out for sushi on our first date in the spring of 2013. He was impressed that I wasn’t afraid to eat (a lot!) and Liam kept me laughing the whole time. By the end of the date we both knew that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together! We bought our home together within that first year of dating but it wouldn’t be until March of 2018 when we would get engaged. I was completely surprised when Liam got down on one knee at the Pulteney Bridge in Bath, UK, where I said, ‘Are you serious?!’ about a million times and of course followed by a big ‘YES!’" - B BIGGEST CHALLENGE: "We selected a venue that was absolutely stunning except nothing was included. They did have some tables available and obviously we did our wine through them as it was a winery but we were on our own for everything else like food, bar, chairs, liquor licence, etc. It was a bit overwhelming at times but we had an amazing caterer who we were able to do a lot of our rentals through." - B • 16 •The Wedding Ring Magazine | www.theweddingring.ca

We hadn't talked while he was away because I figured he was too busy and didn't have cell service. My co-worker asked how things were going and I told her we hadn't talked in a little bit, so she said just message him!! Well, I did... and here we are 9 years later!! We have 3 beautiful baby boys, 2 dogs, and after rescheduling our 2020 wedding due to COVID we are finally married!"- N BIGGEST CHALLENGE: "Our biggest challenge was definitely COVID! Like every single couple out there trying to plan a wedding through COVID, you'll know that things have changed about 1,000 times! We originally planned a 120 person wedding for 2020 but rescheduled to 2021 and reduced our list to about 80. We had a ceremony only because our original reception venue shut down. We ended up having our wedding party, spouses, and parents back to our house after for dinner and drinks and it was absolutely perfect!." - N ADVICE: "My advice would be to try to go with the flow as much as possible! Chances are things are not going to go exactly as planned anyway. Also, think about after your wedding! What do you want to remember? The day goes so fast and then that's it! So really take some time to soak it in." - N • WHERE FABULOUS LOCAL WEDDINGS BEGIN! • 19

We met in 2012 when we were both living in Ottawa and became fast friends but the timing wasn't right. A year and a half later, we reconnected in Toronto and decided to try to be more than friends -- only for CJ to move to England a month later. During the time we were apart, we kept in touch online and spent countless hours on Skype, watching movies together, playing games, or just checking in. When it was tough, we'd make sure to make time to have fun (like ordering food for each other overseas). After two years, we decided there was something more to us and CJ decided to move home to see it through. After moving back to Canada, we settled into a small condo in Guelph and we built our life together. We got engaged at Jackson Triggs Winery in the summer of 2018 (somehow CJ was able to rope Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida into the proposal just before their concert!). How we decided on the venue was a bit serendipitous. We were out to brunch at the Cambridge Mill with a friend of ours (who ended up being our MC) and she decided that it would be the coolest thing ever to have a brunch wedding. She called over the GM, Alex, who promptly gave us amazing service and ideas for our wedding. What was important to us during our wedding was not only to share the fact that love is love with our families, but to also celebrate our two cultures coming together. CJ is Filipino/Chinese and Lindsey is Scottish/Irish and Canadian. We focused on making sure that we had elements that were representative of our own personal stories and cultures as we joined our families." - C&L ADVICE: "Compromise and work with each other -- the day is both of yours! Plan, plan, plan! Don't leave anything to the last minute! This way it is easier to stay within budget and to make alternate arrangements if needed." - C&L •

They weren't posed, just perfectly candid." - A GUEST #: 23 COLOUR PALETTE: Spanish inspired, reds, fuchsia, royal blue BRIDE ATTIRE: Balletts Bridal (www.balletts.com) Kitchener, ON GROOM + GROOMSMEN ATTIRE: Moores Clothing for Men (♥) (www.moores.com) Kitchener, ON BRIDESMAID ATTIRE: Sophie’s Gown Shoppe (www.sophiesgownshoppe.com) Kitchener, ON FLORAL: Kind Florals (www.kindflorals.com) Cambridge, ON CAKE: Q's Cakes (www.qscakesandcafe.com) Waterloo, ON HAIR & MAKEUP: 519 Bridal Beauty (www.519bridalbeauty.ca) Guelph, ON DJ: DJ Ares from ATB Entertainment (@acrosstheboardent) Kitchener, ON TELL US YOUR STORY: "We had many many setbacks while wedding planning. We started with a completely different wedding than we actually ended up with. We were going to have everything at Victoria Park with around 100 people. Then after realizing that COVID restrictions were worse in 2021 than in 2020, we ended up cutting our list down to 25. In March of 2021 my mom booked the Waterloo Regional Police Association as a safeguard because they have beautiful grounds that would give us the option of an outdoor wedding that our current venue wouldn't. By the end of May our original venue asked if we wanted to cancel our booking as every other couple in July had already. So we followed suit and canceled leaving us with absolutely no plans for what to do next. All we had was the WRPA which was our saving grace. So 2 months before the wedding I met with Jackie at WRPA and within an hour she had planned our entire outdoor wedding including a backup in case of rain. And thank god for that back up because the entire week leading up to our wedding it was supposed to rain. Of course the only day that week it did rain was on our wedding day. I'm surprised we didn't drive Jackie crazy because we wanted to stay outside no matter what. We were struggling to give her the go ahead to set everything up inside to the point that we left it till that morning to concede. I (the bride) spent the morning at my parents trying to stay calm and not let the stress get to me. We originally planned that we wouldn't see each other til the ceremony, but as I was on my way to get my hair done I called Justin and said 'I'm feeling extremely nervous and what I need to feel better is to see you. So when I get to the venue come out to see me, okay?' Justin said he couldn't handle the whole day not seeing me as it was too stressful. The limo ride to the venue was the longest either of us had ever experienced and once we saw each other we were just able to release all the emotions we were feeling. The ceremony was extremely special thanks to our officiant Kat Dimou. She performed a Celtic handfasting ceremony for us which we will remember forever. My veil ended up falling off right when I got up to the end of the aisle but none of it mattered because Justin was there. After it was all said and done, we had the most amazing day and, honestly, we wouldn't change it for the world. It ended up being so special and just so us! We couldn't have had such a special day without the amazing help from all of our vendors and we can't thank them enough!" - A •

Dancing Under The Lights WEDDING DATE: July 4th, 2021 CEREMONY LOCATION: Dundee Country Club (♥) (www.golfnorth.ca/dundee), New Dundee, ON PHOTOGRAPHY: Kingdom Photography (www.kingdomphotography.ca) Kitchener, ON "One of the best decisions we made while planning our wedding was hiring Miri from Kingdom Photography! When looking through her photos/blogs from her website and Instagram, I immediately loved her style and editing. She takes such authentic photos that left us full of emotions! They were so powerful, I cried and laughed looking back on so many of them. She did such a great job of capturing the essence of us and our families! I honestly loved everything about our photos, which is a testament to how incredible she is!" - J GUEST #: 50 COLOUR PALETTE: Dusty blue "I loved the softness and freshness of the colour and I knew we had to incorporate it in the overall theme! The dusty blue bridesmaid dresses complimented the girls really well. We also incorporated some nigella and delphinium flowers to bring out the blue in our bouquets in addition to the whites and greenery. I even wore dusty blue heels as my 'something blue'." - J BRIDE ATTIRE: Lidia's Brides (www.lidiasbrides.com) Fergus, ON GROOM + GROOMSMEN ATTIRE: Moores Clothing for Men (♥) (www.moores.com) Kitchener, ON BRIDESMAID ATTIRE: DC Dress (www.etsy.com/ca/shop/DCdress) New York, USA FLORAL: A Petal or Two (www.apetalortwo.ca) Guelph, ON CAKE: Chelsea May Bakes (@chelsea.may.bakes) Cambridge, ON HAIR & MAKEUP: KW Mobile Hair and Makeup (www.kwmobilemakeupandhair.ca) Kitchener, ON TELL US YOUR STORY: "Our story begins 8 years ago when I walked into an interview for my first job at Shoppers Drug Mart. I noticed this young, handsome man and thought to myself that if I get this job, I am going to date this guy. It was literally love at first sight (for me, anyways!). The manager at the time even jokingly told Jay that she hired a blonde for him! Sure enough, after a bit of encouragement from his coworker, he asked me out and we began dating! We've been together through many challenges, including major health issues and dating long distance for several years during university. Through it all, we have supported each other and have continued to grow closer together. Last summer, Jay got his photographer friend, Brandon Taylor, to tell me that I won a contest for a free photoshoot with him. I was so excited, but a little disappointed that we wouldn't be engaged for the photos. Nevertheless, we began shooting and at one point, I turned around and Jay was on one knee proposing! It was the best surprise ever and I was thankful to have it all captured! We then began planning our wedding during a global pandemic, which was not fun or easy! We decided to legally get married on our original wedding date in May, but due to restrictions we were only allowed 10 people. I didn't want to go through the whole traditional wedding without all of our family and friends, so we just did a small, intimate ceremony by the river and then rescheduled a larger ceremony with our family in July. We were able to gather outdoors for the ceremony at Dundee Country Club - which was absolutely stunning - and then have our reception in the backyard of our new home! I am so thankful for both of our weddings, as they were perfect and unique in their own way! I wouldn't change it if I could.” – J •

My dress was white with black accents borrowed from my sister. I made my bouquet of black roses and pops of bright colour with supplies from Michaels. My husband was in bright blue. We started dating in February of 2015. Four months into dating, I brought Joel to my sister's wedding in which I was the Maid of Honour. This effectively guaranteed Joel would be sitting alone all night, and would need to wait around for several hours while bridal party photos were done. Despite Joel's reticence to be in large crowds of people he doesn't know, he came, and met effectively my entire family in one day. That’s when I knew he was planning on a sticking around. We have traveled together to Paris and Versailles, Boston, Montreal, the Dominican Republic, and one day we hope to go to Germany for Oktoberfest! Experienced travelers, we have enjoyed numerous adventures like drinking Dominican rum next to the 'blowhole' in Samana, drinking cognac in a stonewall basement in Paris, drinking lagers at Fenway in Boston, and drinking craft beer at Dieu du Ciel in Montreal. We got got engaged in February of 2019, on Valentine's - the day before our 4 year dating anniversary. Joel took me to Paris and proposed on the Place du Trocadéro across from the Eiffel Tower with the sun rising behind us. After a secret photographer was revealed to me (!) we took photos together to celebrate our engagement, and then went for breakfast." – A BIGGEST CHALLENGE: "It was love in the time of COVID-19. Everything about getting married was a challenge. But we were committed to each other and our wedding date. We were getting married no matter what!" - A BEST MEMORY: "Having a beautiful bonfire after the wedding and partying with all our friends and family. After a very short amount of time, we agreed to meet each other in person. As soon as my eyes locked onto hers I realized that she was going to be my forever. We managed to keep a long distance relationship for 3 years and happily moved in together in the Fall of 2019. In January 2020, on our 4 year anniversary, Laura took me to a beautiful local Inn. We went for a magical snowy walk outside where she got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life loving her. To which I obviously responded, 'Yes, took you long enough!' Devine Wedding Design (♥) (www.devineweddingdesign.ca) Mitchell, ON shows us that the greenery trend is red hot and shows no sign of slowing down any time soon! "We love how the neutral colour tones make for a great addition to any wedding theme from woodsy and rustic to modern and elegant. However you envision your special day, greenery will add whimsy and romance for a timeless impression. But…it does so much more than that!

Any type of foliage will give your wedding a lush, dreamy garden vibe while also helping to create visual volume within your space. Not only can it help to distract attention from something you don’t particularly want guests to notice, but it also helps move the eye through the space.
PHOTO: victoriapietsch.com
Use greenery in your centrepieces or on tables to make your space dance or incorporate it into your ceiling design to add depth and dimension. Use various foliage on your tablescape to be both delicate and bold at the same time. The variation of texture will make your place settings magical and memorable for guests. Little touches of greenery on your signage, chandeliers, entryway drapery, and backdrop will all help to transform your space in every direction. The possibilities are truly endless and we’re excited to discuss how we can incorporate the greenery trend into your wedding in a way that is unique to you." - DWD PHOTO: Nancy French Photography

Our couple had to postpone their 2021 Spring wedding to 2022 and enjoyed having a “dress rehearsal” of what is to come. For the design inspiration, we took a renewed interest in pastels using a mix of baby pink, light blue, and ivory colors with soft florals, translucent stationery, beautiful gauze napkins, and rich decadent meringue at each place setting of the intimate micro wedding reception. Adding a mix of modern and vintage furniture, ritzy gold accents, and crystal candle stands we elevated this setting from young, fresh, and playful to a more sophisticated look." - Celebration Events

Invitations are a timeless aspect of the wedding planning process. Not even a global pandemic can take away the tradition and elegance of sending and receiving printed wedding invitations. Here are a few of our favourite invitation elements and designs... PHOTO: lindsaycoulterphoto.com
ROMANTIC FLORALS: Rich and moody florals are the perfect starting point for a romantic and elegant wedding suite. PAPER: Is one of our favourite parts of the invitation process. Whether you’re introducing a pop of colour or adding texture or sheen, paper can help set the tone of your wedding. HAND-TORN EDGES: When it comes to luxury techniques like letterpress, foil, hand-torn edges, etc., less is more. Pick one or two options and really let those choices shine. GREENERY & NATURAL FLORALS: The classics are named so for a reason, they never go out of style. TONE-ON-TONE LETTERPRESS: A luxury technique that is sure to impress. We love highlighting the impact of letterpress by keeping it simple with tone-ontone colour. MODERN FONTS: An alternative to the traditional, modern handwritten fonts combined with an elegant sans serif is the perfect pairing for a more casual affair. Legally Wed: Everything you need to know about getting married in Ontario EXPERT TIP BY: The Wedding Ring (www.theweddingring.ca/everything-need-know-getting-married-ontario)
Getting legally married in Ontario involves more than just a dress and a fiancé. When it comes to getting legally hitched, you have two options: a marriage licence issued by a municipality of Ontario or, if you are being married in a religious ceremony, you may be eligible to be married by a publication of banns. PUBLICATION OF BANNS: If you’re getting married in your church, you’ll have the option of skipping the licence (and the licence fee) and being married by a publication of banns. Banns are a lovely traditional religious way of both announcing your intention to marry and making sure it’s legal. The Banns are typically announced during church services 3 weeks in a row prior to your ceremony. Both you and your fiancé must be members of the church and attend regularly. Banns cannot be published if you or your intended spouse has been married before. Speak to the clergy of your church for more information on how a publication of banns works. MARRIAGE LICENCE: Everyone else wishing to be legally married in Ontario will need a marriage licence. The application process is short and sweet, but you’ll need to know the right details. A licence is valid anywhere in Ontario for 90 days from the date of issue. There is no waiting period between the date of issue of the marriage licence and the date of marriage. The Marriage Licence Application form must be completed and signed by both parties to the marriage. One party to the marriage may submit the completed application form to the City Clerk’s Office in-person in order to obtain the Marriage Licence, provided that one of the following documents is submitted in place of the absent party: (a) the absent party’s original birth certificate; (b) the absent party’s valid passport; (c) an Affidavit of Age (available from the City Clerk’s Office) completed and signed by the absent party and notarized. Costs for a marriage licence varies by municipality. For more information fees, office hours and contact information for your local municipality, be sure to check out our article Marriage Licence: How much does it cost and where can I get one? (www.theweddingring.ca/marriage-licence-costs-locations) GETTING MARRIED IN ONTARIO AFTER A DIVORCE: If this is not your first trip down the aisle and if you were divorced in Canada, you’ll also need to bring official proof of the divorce with you when you apply for a marriage licence. This can the original or court-certified copy of one of three documents: the final divorce decree, the final divorce judgement, or a certificate of divorce. If you were divorced in a country other then Canada, you’ll also need to provide additional documents to prove that you are no longer married and can legally remarry in Ontario. Since the government of Ontario needs to validate these documents, this process can take up to 4 weeks. You will need to send your completed marriage licence application form along with the following documents to ServiceOntario: • Statement of sole responsibility: for each divorce (signed by both people who are planning to get married and a witness) • Legal opinion letter: from an Ontario lawyer, addressed to both people who plan to get married, giving reasons why the divorce or annulment should be recognized in Ontario • Divorce decree or annulment: an original or court-certified copy in English or French. If the decree is in another language, you will need to include a translated copy and an affidavit sworn by a certified translator GETTING MARRIED OUTSIDE OF ONTARIO: For residents of Ontario who are getting married in another province or territory in Canada, you must contact the province’s or territory’s vital statistics office for information on licencing requirements in that province or territory. To keep life simple, we always recommend taking care of the legal details here at home before you leave for your destination wedding. • PHOTO: jesscollinsphotos.com

Favourite Moments With Music Central
PHOTO: hrmphotography.com EXPERT TIP BY MUSIC CENTRAL ENTERTAINMENT (♥) (www.musiccentral.ca) London, ON
A great Master of Ceremonies doesn’t just make announcements and introductions. A Master of Ceremonies orchestrates the entire evening making sure that when the newlyweds take the dance floor for their first dance, the venue lights dim, the music starts, and the guests are there to watch the couple enjoy their first dance together. A great Master of Ceremonies understands how to orchestrate your wedding with magic and emotion. Rob from Music Central tells us, “The MC is the captain of your wedding ship. They make sure that you stay on track and steer the event along. They have 2 basic duties at your reception: first, they coordinate with vendors so that everyone is on the same page and then they communicate the day to your guests. But the truly great Master of Ceremonies doesn’t just coordinate and communicate. They help to tell the story of your wedding day; help to create moments you and your guests will never forget.” Here are Music Central’s (and our) Top 3 Favourite Moments from Weddings… 1. Some of our favourite moments from weddings are just helping to explain the simple significance of a moment. “Brides and grooms often come to us with special moments they’d like to incorporate like playing the first dance song from mom and dad’s wedding. It is not enough that the newlyweds and the parents know the
significance. We tell the story so that all of your guests get to experience the moment with you.” 2. One of our favourite stories from a recent wedding that Rob was the Master of Ceremonies at is this: “The father of the bride had come to see me before the wedding to enlist my help with a surprise he had for his daughter. He had recorded a song for her, but she didn’t know about it. When the time came for their dance, I introduced them and started the song that the bride had chosen. As they took to the dance floor, to the surprise of the bride and the guests, I faded out the song and while building the emotion of the moment said, “It’s an excellent song, but I’ve been searching and searching, and I think I’ve found something that you’ll like even more. What could be better than a father singing to his daughter?!” Then I played the song that the father had recorded just for his daughter’s wedding. There is time after the dance to explain to the guests how the song came to be. But first, I made sure that the bride and her father had their moment.” 3. A great Master of Ceremonies takes basic communication like introducing the wedding party and adds an element of entertainment. “When we are introducing the wedding party, we like to actually introduce the wedding party. It is not just about saying names and relationships to
the bride/groom. It is about making people feel like they know them. “Our best man for the evening is Frank. Frank and Steve (groom) have been friends since childhood and Frank is the person responsible for us being here tonight as he introduced the happy couple back in high school. On a personal note, Frank is single and enjoys long walks on the beach.” Your wedding is all about moments and memories. From introducing the wedding party to keeping the guests informed to setting the stage for all your wedding moments, your Master of Ceremonies is a valuable member of your wedding production team. “We are trained entertainers who have a passion for our role as Master of Ceremonies at your wedding. We take the time to make sure we have all the information to bring the extra touches to your special day.” • ABOUT MUSIC CENTRAL: Music Central Entertainment is the area's most respected disc jockey service based out of London, ON. Don’t Miss Out on Celebrating Because of Transportation PHOTO: melissaweberphoto.ca
EXPERT TIP BY BRENTWOOD LIVERY (♥) (www.brentwoodlivery.ca) Kitchener, ON The unfortunate reality is, unless your entire wedding takes place at an all-inclusive resort, you will need some form of transportation on your wedding day. With almost every wedding, getting to and from the ceremony and/or reception location is necessary. How will everyone get there? This is a standard question but the better question couples should ask is: “How do we get to and from our wedding without interrupting our time celebrating together?” Ordinary transportation is not the answer. It will leave you missing out on your wedding day. Whether you have your ceremony, pictures, and reception all at the same location or at separate locations you will need a way to get there and back, and this travel time needs to be factored into your wedding day timeline. How do successful wedding couples fit travel time along with everything else into their day? Brent Ferguson, Chief Experience Officer at Brentwood Livery says, “Without a large enough vehicle for everyone to travel together and celebrate safely, couples will miss out on the opportunity to transform travel time into celebrating every moment with those closest to them.” With only one shot to get the wedding plan timing right, 72 •The Wedding Ring Magazine | www.theweddingring.ca
couples can’t afford to arrive late or waste time driving in separate cars to each location. There are not enough hours in the day to be separated from those you love. At Brentwood Livery the ‘Celebrate Together Plan’ is actually quite simple: 1st - Choose a vehicle big enough for your wedding party to travel safely together throughout the day. 2nd - Choose a package that allows the perfect amount of time to get to and from all your locations. 3rd - Celebrate safely together without missing a single moment of memories. “Helping over 3000+ wedding couples look, feel, and be celebrated while traveling safely together in and out of our limos over the past 31 years is what motivates us to keep providing personalized luxury chauffeured service. At Brentwood our mission is to help couples celebrate from beginning to end and not miss a single moment of their day!” - CEO Brent. What to Consider when Choosing a Venue EXPERT TIP BY: Best Western PLUS Stoneridge Inn (♥) (www.stoneridgeinn.com) London, ON
PHOTOS, this page: Melissa Kerry Photography
With hundreds of prospective venues, narrowing it down to a handful of favourites to talk to one-on-one can be a challenge in itself. Natalie from Best Western PLUS Stoneridge Inn and Rose Chapel offers these tips to help narrow down the search for the wedding venue of your dreams... START EARLY: Venues book up fast (especially after COVID reopenings). Ideally, you'll want to book your venue as soon as you know when you want to get married. 12-18 months is the typical recommendation though you can sometimes get your dream space with less notice. KNOW YOUR STYLE: Does the venue match your vision for your wedding? Are you dreaming of a glittery ballroom wedding? A chapel ceremony? Rustic? Urban? Somewhere guests can arrive
for the ceremony and stay through the reception? Once you've decided on a vision for the day, you can narrow down your venue search keeping in mind that décor can enhance any space. BE FLEXIBLE: In an ideal world we can make all the puzzle pieces fit: a dream location with the perfect style and available date. If you're flexible with your wedding date it's easier to find the perfect venue with an available date. If you set a firm date you may have to be flexible with your style and your venue options. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION: Is the venue easy to get to and convenient for your guests? There's a certain magic to an all-in-one location wedding that you guests can arrive at for the ceremony and stay at for the reception. Extra points if out of town guests can end the evening with a short walk to their hotel room.
BUDGET 101: Know your budget when you're searching for the perfect venue. Pay attention to package types, flexibility, inclusions – full service vs. limited service venues, etc. You'll also want to keep in mind bar options and gratuities while you search. Natalie offers this last piece of advice to couples who are uncertain of the best venue choice, "Trust your gut. If it feels right and you've done your research, it is right." • ABOUT BEST WESTERN PLUS STONERIDGE INN: Is a unique allin-one venue offering a historic, on-site non-denominational chapel, reception facilities for up to 200 guests (3 individual ballrooms), accommodations for bridal couple and guests. Tuxedo vs suit
PHOTO: freya-photography.com EXPERT TIP BY: Outlooks for Men (www.outlooksformen.com) BC
Even before the global pandemic cancelled or reduced the size of social gatherings, the most momentous of them — weddings — were undergoing an evolution. Fewer couples were choosing the traditional church ceremony and reception in a banquet hall, opting instead for venues that reflected modern, sometimes casual, sensibilities: backyards, beaches, even B&Bs. And as they embarked on a life together in a manner quite different from the way their parents said “I do,” so did their clothing choices change. For the men in a wedding — the grooms, groomsmen, fathers, and even guests — nowhere is that evolution more pronounced than in this question: Tuxedo or Suit? THE NEW RULES: Dale Olsen hears that question often. Owner of Outlooks, Vancouver Island’s premier men’s clothing stores — he has shops on Yates Street in downtown Victoria, at the B.C. capitol’s Uptown shopping centre, and in Duncan — he and his staff dress men for roughly 500 weddings each year. Thus, he has seen grooms who walk out with custom-tailored suits or tuxes as well as those who choose a fresh but casual look: chinos, white shirt, suspenders, and bow tie. “There are no hard and fast rules on your wedding anymore,” Olsen says. “You’re actually making up the rules — but there still are some rules.” And when it comes to dressing the grooms and groomsmen — and, often, to answer that tuxedo vs suit question — the rules are actually three key considerations: the season; the venue; and, most importantly in some weddings, the bride. 76 •The Wedding Ring Magazine | www.theweddingring.ca
THE SEASON & THE VENUE: Although Olsen is firmly on Team Suit, he acknowledges a tux can have its place, mainly in fall and winter weddings. “Winter weddings or church weddings are easier because there’s just no doubt about what to wear,” he says. “If you’re having a full-on wedding in a church with a bride in a full-length gown, with a reception in a hall at night, that’s a very formal event.” A spring or summer event, however, is another thing altogether, and grooms and those who stand up with them on the big day are more likely to choose a suit, in Olsen’s experience. As well, a less formal venue usually means a corresponding dress code, both for the wedding party and the guests. Olsen notes that brides in ornate, formal gowns and grooms in tuxedos with satin lapels might appear incongruous on a sprawling, rustic B&B property or ankle-deep in beach sand. The consideration that overrules all others in the choice of men’s attire for a traditional wedding, however, is the bride, Olsen says. Although the groom, by tradition, is not to see her gown before wedding day, he says it’s advisable for the lucky man to make general inquires before shopping for his own outfit. If his bride says she will be wearing a traditional, floor-length gown, his clothing should match hers in formality. If she’s going for a shorter, lighter dress for a more casual look and wedding, he has creative licence to dial down. “Whether you’re a groom, a groomsman, or a guest to a wedding, you need to dress to that,” Olsen says, noting, “It’s going to make for some very weird pictures if the groom is in chinos and a white shirt and a bow tie, and yet the
bride is in a full-on white wedding gown. So that’s how you base your decision.” Another element to the consistency sought for the sake of photos that will be preserved for generations, he says, is fit. Grooms and groomsmen in sometimes ill-fitting rented tuxes will look out of place next to immaculately dressed and fitted bride and bridesmaids — hence Olsen’s preference for a custom-tailored suit. Which brings the conversation to one additional consideration. PRACTICALITY: “If you ask grooms or groomsman to buy a dark blue suit, you’re not asking them to do too much,” Olsen says. “You’re actually doing guys a favour, because then he has a suit to wear to other weddings and different things — Christmas parties and formal events. You’ve given him something he probably needed anyway." “The tuxedo has maybe lost a bit of its practicality,” Olsen adds, “and the suit may just qualify as formal enough.” And if that suit is properly fitted, the grooms will do justice to their spouses on their special day and in the photos they will share with family for years to come. • ABOUT OUTLOOKS FOR MEN: Outlooks carries more than 75 lines that have been personally selected by Dale and his team for quality and value. Preference is given to Canadian designers and manufacturers, however, products from all over the world make it to the shelves if they fit within the Outlooks style.

When Should You Book Your Wedding Flowers?
EXPERT TIP BY HAILLY LUCAS FLORAL DESIGN (www.haillylucas.com) Kitchener, ON
WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE NUMBER ONE QUESTION A FLORIST GETS WHEN IT COMES TO WEDDING FLOWERS?: If
you guessed how much do flowers cost, that would be number two. The number one question is usually, ‘When should I book my wedding flowers?’ "I have the answers for you! This question became more difficult to answer when COVID-19 hit the wedding industry like a heavy snowfall in May. With the ongoing changes from this disruption, we are still seeing the ramifications well into the 2022 season." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR YOU?: "Book your vendors early! I recommend that you start the flower planning process approximately 15 months prior to your booked date with the intentions of finding and booking your florist about 12-14 months prior. Many services in this industry have a first-come-first-serve mentality. You don’t want to miss out on the vendors you connect with and want to work with. On top of this, we are dealing with a surge due to the lifted restrictions in July 2021. There are clients who have rescheduled from 2020 and 2021 and have pushed their dates to late 2021 and into 2022. Now with the increased amount of freedom, 2022 couples are trying to reschedule for end of the
2021 season as well. We also have newly engaged clients looking to book for the end of 2021 and into early 2022." THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE WE CATCH UP ON THE EFFECTS OF COVID-19: "Be patient when reaching out to your
vendors, current 2021 clients will take priority. Anyone who is looking for 2021 dates and has availability for new clients will also take priority over 2022 dates. It is okay to send follow ups if you haven’t heard back from a vendor but keep in mind that everyone is doing the best they can to adjust and they will get back to you when they can." Lastly, it is known that June and September are two of the busiest months during the wedding season. If you are planning a wedding in those months for 2022, I recommend you book your vendors as soon as you can due to the post COVID-19 restrictions surge." • ABOUT HAILLY LUCAS FLORAL DESIGN: Hailly Lucas Floral Design is a floral studio based in Kitchener. 5 Tips for a Custom Fairytale Wedding Dress EXPERT TIP BY AMANDA GARRETT, BRIDAL DESIGNER (www.amegdesigns.com) Toronto, ON | PHOTOS, this page: marandaelyssephotography.com
Imagine a feeling of ease and beauty, knowing that from the moment you have the final fitting of your dress, you're going to be able to move through your wedding with such grace. Walking down the aisle, where your partner-to-be will be in awe of you… to the dance floor where you'll have the time of your life… "I am sure you have a vision, an idea that is pre-existing about how you wish to look on your wedding day. It’s the reason a custom-made, tailored design is the perfect solution for most brides, especially after searching and trying on what feels like a thousand ready-made dresses. Let me share some guidance from brides I have worked with on the tips for getting the custom fairytale wedding dress of your dreams." 1. TRY ON DRESSES IN A BOUTIQUE TO KNOW WHAT STYLE YOU WANT: "This is a crucial part of the custom process. When you know what dress style fits you, you will have a better idea of the end result." 2. WHAT COLOUR DO YOU WANT?: "With custom, your dress can be any tint of white or any colour of the rainbow and beyond! I have had pink, blue with yellow tulle, white with red tulle, and many more. Fabrics are also something to be sure on. This makes it a lot easier to find samples for your dress." 3. GET ALL THE INFORMATION YOU NEED FROM THE DESIGNER: "Know what is included in the quote; fabrics, alterations, fittings, taxes, etc. What is the process? How many fittings will there be? What is included for the alterations? How much is the initial cost? Do they have a payment plan? Whatever you need, the designer should be able to easily provide you with answers to these questions."
4. YOU CHOSE YOUR DESIGNER? INCREDIBLE!: "Now you just need patience! Ordering fabrics can take a little time so being patient is important. A great designer will include you in the entire process from start to finish. My brides love when sneak peeks are shared in stories on social media." 5. TRUST THE PROCESS!: "Having your vision created by someone can be somewhat nerve racking. However, you are invested in this process and your designer, so go with the flow, she or he will make all your dress visions come true." Take these 5 tips into consideration when you are looking into your wedding dress. For many people, custom is the perfect way to have your fairytale visions come true. • ABOUT A.M.E.G. DESIGNS: "My goal is to take your vision and make it a reality. Whether you are in need of a custom design or alterations on a dress from a boutique, this personal experience will feel like no other."

Top 5 Tips For Making Your Makeup Last All Night PHOTO: amandamayphoto.com EXPERT TIP BY ASHLEY MACBEATH MAKEUP (www.makeupbyashley.ca) Brantford, ON
Every bride is searching for the perfect makeup look and makeup artist to help them achieve that look. Part of that perfect look is making sure that it lasts all day through the I Do's and kisses, the photos and the toasts, the heat and the hugs. Ashley MacBeath tells us her top 5 tips to ensuring your makeup lasts all wedding day. 1. MOISTURIZE: Even if you're an oily bride or groom, it is important that the makeup sits on a perfectly prepared canvas. This will also help prevent your makeup from looking cakey in photos. 2. USE A PRIMER: Primers come in all shapes and sizes and can help with any skin concerns that you might have. If you have redness, use a green tinted primer! If your skin is dry, a moisturizing primer will work wonders Primers also help with the longevity of the makeup and give it something 80 •The Wedding Ring Magazine | www.theweddingring.ca
to hold on to even if you sweat! Don’t forget your eyelids. Eye primer will prevent those gorgeous sparkly shadows from creasing. 3. TWO WORDS - WATER. PROOF.: Of course, you’re going to wear waterproof mascara and eye liner, but waterproof your skin as well! Setting spray is a great invention and not only helps your makeup absorb nicely into the skin but protects it against the elements as well. 4. LIP LINER IS YOUR NEW BFF: Gloss is pretty and shiny, but not exactly mess free when it comes to smooching your new spouse. By lining your lips, and filling them in with a lip liner, then blotting (not smearing!) a thin amount of lipstick over your pout, you’re going to create a stain effect that will last through dinner and many (many!) smooches.
5. LAST BUT NOT LEAST, LAYER: There are going to be a lot of products on your face. Foundation, concealer, powder, blush, bronzer, etc. It can be a lot for one face! Go in with a light hand and remember, you can always add more if you need to. A thin application of products will still give you the look you’re going for, while letting your skin breathe and keeping you comfortable all night. Be strategic with placement and take your time. Enjoy the process, and don’t forget to wash your face! • ABOUT ASHLEY MACBEATH MAKEUP: Ashley MacBeath is a Brantford based makeup artist certified in bridal, special event, and corporate makeup; with an emphasis on natural, "best version of you" looks.
Things No One Tells You When You Get Engaged PHOTO: hrmphotography.com EXPERT TIP BY UNMISTAKABLY YOU (♥) (www.unmistakablyyou.com) London, ON
"Congratulations!! You got engaged! It’s such an exciting time in your life, and I’m sure that you’re spending an inordinate amount of time with a big, goofy grin on your face. But the hard truth, friend, is that (if it hasn’t already), that feeling might wear off as soon as your future mother-in-law pipes up about the importance of having fruitcake at the wedding, or once you get a quote from a caterer and contemplate selling your firstborn to pay for the reception. My goal here is definitely not to rain on your parade, but just to give you the awareness and the tools you need to navigate some of the pitfalls of this time in your life that nobody really talks about." 1. PEOPLE WILL HAVE OPINIONS: "Strong opinions. If you find that your parents, future in-laws, siblings, or even your friends are putting pressure on you to do things their way, try to nip it in the bud as soon as possible. Of course, you may need to give some latitude to anyone who’s footing a large part of the bill, but having honest conversations about the things that matter to you early in the process (and conceding on those issues that really aren’t incredibly important to you) will set you up for success as the big day gets closer. If letting your sister wear Doc Martens down the aisle means that your mom will stop pushing you to have yellow bridesmaids’ dresses, it might be a concession that’s worth it. " 2. YOU AND YOUR PARTNER WILL LIKELY DISAGREE: "Hopefully you’re both on the same page about absolutely everything, but in the event that you’re not, having honest conversations early on about your priorities will help you present a united front. Remember that this day is about both of you, and try to find ways to incorporate the things that are important to each of you individually, and as a couple. Touch base frequently throughout the process and make sure that your partner is still feeling comfortable, heard, and validated. After all, learning to compromise will likely save your marriage more times than you can count, so you might as well start now! 3. IF YOU'RE NOT CAREFUL, YOU WILL PROBABLY GO OVER BUDGET: "Weddings are expensive. I can’t tell you how many of my couples cannot get their heads around the fact that a bunch of flowers that costs $29.99 at the grocery store turns into a $250 bridal bouquet once you use that ‘w’ word. (Before you send me hate mail, florist friends, I know that there’s an incredible
amount of meeting time, floral prep, expensive blooms, and design hours that go into creating a bouquet. And now so does everyone else!). There are a few steps you can take to avoid re-mortgaging anything or having to sell a kidney, though. Setting up a realistic budget from the beginning and sticking to it (while understanding that it’s an organic document, and that if you splurge in one area, you’ll have to save in another) will stand you in good stead, as will setting priorities and learning to compromise." 4. IT'S EASY TO GET SO INVOLVED IN PLANNING THE WEDDING THAT YOU FORGET TO PLAN THE MARRIAGE: "You may find that talk of the wedding dominates all your free time, and stress over the budget and the decisions you have to make starts to creep into your relationship. Luckily, if you’re intentional about spending quality time together and not talking about the wedding, you can continue to develop a strong relationship that will stand the test of time. So grab those hiking boots, make a reservation at a new restaurant, or pull out a mixology book and experiment with some new cocktails." 5. YOU SHOULDN'T JUST KNOW HOW TO PLAN A WEDDING: "There are literally hundreds of teeny, tiny little details to take into account, pitfalls to plan for, and contingencies to combat. And you’ve likely never done this before! Give yourself the tools you need to keep your sanity while navigating the planning process, whether that means leaning on your bestie for support, finding free online resources (shameless plug: check out the FB group Wedding Planning, Simplified for tons of free tips, downloads and videos), or hiring a professional wedding planner to guide you through. Planning a wedding without a wedding planner is kind of like building a house without a contractor. You can do it, absolutely, but it’s a lot easier with a professional’s support, and the house (and the marriage) will likely be a lot stronger if you’ve built it on a strong foundation." ABOUT UNMISTAKABLY YOU: The Unmistakably You team is obsessed with all things wedding! Their mission is simple: give busy couples the peace of mind they need to truly believe that their wedding will be a unique reflection of them as a couple, and ensure that they will be able to relax and enjoy their wedding day. • WHERE FABULOUS LOCAL WEDDINGS BEGIN! • 81

Vow Writing 101 PHOTO: cassidycrowe.com EXPERT TIP BY SOMETHING NEW OFFICIANT (www.somethingnewofficiant.ca) London, ON
"The vow writing process is an area of ceremony planning my clients often feel the most intimidated by, and most at a loss with where to begin. Here I share some of my suggestions and tips I offer my own officiant clients to ensure their “I dos” capture their uniqueness, while also honouring the sacredness of making vows intended to be lived out forever more." Generally speaking, there are three different styles to doing one’s vows, each having their own benefits and drawbacks depending on your comfort with public speaking, displays of possible vulnerability (e.g. crying), desired length of your ceremony, and important customs or traditions you’d like to carry forward: 1. ECHO OR REPEAT YOUR VOWS AFTER YOUR OFFICIANT: Together with your officiant you decide on a few sentences, I would say no more than 5, where the officiant would read a few words or a short sentence, and then you’d repeat it after them. You’d go back and forth until the paragraph is complete. The officiant would then repeat this pattern with the other partner. 2. TAKE A MORE TRADITIONAL APPROACH: This format is where the officiant would ask a series of questions after which you would reply with “I will” or "I do". For example: Do you ___ take ___ to be your husband/wife/spouse? 3. PERSONAL VOWS: Finally, the reading or speaking of personal vows. The sky's the limit in terms of personal vows, and they can be a very playful part of a ceremony where the couple’s 'personality' shines. Increasingly couples are opting for a hybrid approach, where they will include the traditional approach to their vows and then proceed to read their personal vows; they may first do the echo/repeat after me approach, then do the traditional vows, or any combination of the three. So if you’re struggling with a place to begin with crafting your personal vows, start with writing from your heart, unfiltered, and in bullet format responding to the following prompts: • How did you feel the first time you met your partner? • How did you know that your partner was the one? • What are the strengths and capabilities you witness in your partner that you most admire? • How has your partner challenged you, supported you, and encouraged you to grow personally and/or professionally/ occupationally? 84 •The Wedding Ring Magazine | www.theweddingring.ca

What resources do you draw on your partner for to move through difficult or challenging times? What have been some of your favorite shared memories? What have you most learned about yourself and your relationship during the time you’ve been together?
Then I suggest you move into the commitments you are declaring moving forward, aka the “vows”. Next, it’s time to flush out those bullet points into full paragraph format. If your officiant doesn’t offer editing and feedback support, then ask a member of your wedding party or a family member who can get their eyes on the draft of your vows and offer feedback. Practically speaking, you're going to want to decide with your partner ahead of time how long you want your vows to be in terms of duration. On average, my clients usually write personal vows between 10 to 15 sentences; however, clients have read vows with just a couple of heartfelt written sentences, and others who’ve read pages sharing a fully flushed story of the beginning, middle, and next steps of their relationship. Consider the tone you're looking for in your vows, what would you like to convey, and are you and your partner on the same page. Take a look together at some online examples, and while you may not like them word for word you can wordsmith them so they fit the tone and temperament of who you are and what you’d like to say. Lastly, give yourself permission to try out the various approaches. Speak them out loud to one another or in front of friends. Explore what feels right for you. There is no need to rush into a decision; in fact, I’ve worked with clients on personal vows the morning of their ceremonies when they’ve had a change of heart. If there is anything to even remotely be grateful for about weddings during a global pandemic, it would be that ceremonies became really important to couples and their families as they might have been the only part of wedding gathering that was allowed throughout the various stages. We’ve gotten creative about how we do vows, and how we elongate moments in the ceremony that really celebrate a partnership, which is why we're all gathering in the first place! *Note, there likely is a sentence with specific language required by the Marriage Act within your province that must be repeated by the marrying parties at the outset of the vow section regardless of the style chosen. Check with your officiant regarding what is required to be said according to this legislation. • ABOUT SOMETHING NEW OFFICIANT: Something New Officiants are licensed to perform weddings in the province of Ontario and are licensed, ordained Metaphysical Ministers with C.I.M.M. The Wedding Budget: Budgeting made Easy
EXPERT TIP BY THE WEDDING RING (WWW.THEWEDDINGRING.CA/THE-WEDDING-BUDGET-SPREADSHEET)
Creating the wedding of your dreams involves a great deal of researching, planning, and, yes, budgeting! Unless you’re fortunate enough to have an unlimited budget, most couples will want to plan their wedding with a budget in mind. The Ring’s Wedding Budget Spreadsheet has been designed to help you determine and keep track of your budget regardless of what it is. The Ring’s Wedding Budget Spreadsheet gives modest, average, and extravagant prices ranges for absolutely everything from the marriage licences to wedding photography, from flowers to transportation. It also includes columns for reality – your budget, quotes, and actual amounts paid. Prices are based on wedding industry rates in Southwestern Ontario communities stretching from London to Toronto. There may be less expensive vendors and more expensive vendors depending on your needs and where you look. The Ring’s Wedding Budget Spreadsheet gives you the best starting point you could ask for! It’s realistic, local, and can be a fantastic guideline for planning your fabulous dream wedding. ABOUT THE BUDGET: The wedding budget spreadsheet categories can be tweaked to work for you, since not everyone should shoot for a $70,000 wedding budget. The most commonly used budget here will be the “Average Budget”. It can be adjusted to ring in at as low as $15,000 and as high as $40,000. Here are a few inside tips for getting started on that tweaking… •
•
Decide which parts of each element of your wedding is most important to you. Then plan to spend more on those items and less on everything else. If shoes aren’t your thing but flowers definitely are, then don’t get Jimmy Choo’s! Invest in incredible centrepieces instead. If you want to save on décor, book a wedding venue that is already beautiful and needs little help with appearance. Then either stroke the saved money off your budget or allocate it to something you’d like to spend more money on.

•
The Gala Affair Budget is for the couples that plan to take advantage of the biggest and most extravagant options provided by local wedding vendors. This budget is not realistic for most couples. However, it does give you an idea of the highest end of many of the elements that can go into a wedding. If a couple on a “Modest Budget” have made wedding photography their highest priority, they may want to increase that part of their budget to the Gala Affair level, and then decrease other areas to compensate. The Modest Budget can be tweaked in many different ways as well. It could be decreased in some areas by leaving elements out entirely. Increase other areas by boosting the budget columns over to Average or Gala Fair budget caliber.
The versatility and ease of adjusting make The Ring’s Wedding Budget Spreadsheet perfect to help you plan your dream day! •

Our goal was to have no extra décor. I had a $100 bouquet but gave no preference of colour for the flowers. Jess wore a navy suit and patterned pocket square. Immediately we knew that we fit together and the way we got along was simply really easy. Even though I came to BC from North Western Ontario, being here with Jess feels like home. We lived together for 7 years before we got engaged - that is a tale all on its own. There was a LITTLE mishap with a BIG ring and her proposal plans that only Jess can fully explain – (in short, she ordered a piece from a jewelry fabricator that she found online, and the ring/stone that ended up coming in the mail is literally the size of the RING POP candy suckers. So incredibly massive, unnecessary, and quite frankly heavy and dangerous for me to wear LOL!!!) On December 9th, 2016, Jess asked me to marry her while we were taking a weekend vacation in Vancouver. We were not in a hurry to get married, but in 2019, we decided it was time to start planning our wedding for July 24th, 2020. ENTER COVID. When it became obvious that our original 4-day-wedding weekend in Tofino BC, complete with beach ceremony, BBQ reception, sun and surfing for a couple days could not go ahead, we started to reconsider the idea of elopement. In our early years together, while at a hair salon, one of the stylists asked Jess and I, "if [you] were ever to get married, how would [you] want to do it?" We laughed off the question at the time but replied casually with, "We want to take off on a helicopter to the top of a mountain away from everything and get it done quick." I had heard of a photographer named Erin Wallis through a group of mutual friends and my hair guru Janine Branchi (Foundation Hair Salon and Academy). Erin's work is breathtaking – she makes it look effortless and magical. We felt from seeing her photography in person and online that she would be a great person to capture our ceremony. In December 2020 Erin Wallis had recently announced a collaboration with 49North Helicopters - a local company that has a special HELI-LOVE booking package that includes a 2 hour flight, photography, and an officiant - all available to be booked throughout the ongoing pandemic. Making Your Destination Wedding Legal Without The Hassle
PHOTO: victoriamae.ca EXPERT TIP BY ENDURING PROMISES (www.enduringpromises.com) Toronto, ON
The word destination says so much—sun & sand, carefree days, rest, adventure, and time away from the day to day. But, if you take the word destination and add wedding it says so much more! Love & marriage are their own special destination, an important day that is carefully chosen and filled with precious memories. As a couple, it's a new beginning, focusing on each other, the true destination! At Enduring Promises, we understand that destinations are about the journey and the memories. Let us help you on your way to a hasslefree destination wedding. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Making your marriage legal in another country isn't as easy as picking an Officiant. Every country has its own legal requirements. Involving paperwork requiring your birth certificate, medical records, letters of intent, proof of 96 •The Wedding Ring Magazine | www.theweddingring.ca
residency, and (in some cases) blood tests. Keep in mind that if you would like a religious/spiritual wedding, the religious organization may have its own requirements needed in advance of your ceremony. In some countries your religious/ spiritual wedding may not be legally recognized unless it is combined with a civil ceremony. Obtaining a marriage licence, applying for your marriage certificate, and changing your name all require different applications. Depending on the country in which you marry, you may need to hire the services of a translator, adding an unexpected element to your special day. Cancellations from service providers do happen from time to time. Make sure you know all the requirements (well in advance) so you have enough time to get everything together, and in motion before you arrive.

Just minutes from the shores of Lake Huron and its world-famous sunsets, the 85-acre estate is a winery, vineyard, and special event venue. The centrepiece is a 31,000 sq. ft. manor that includes a tasting room, production facility, barrel cellar, ballroom, VIP lounge, and patio spaces. Over 200 tonnes of Ontario limestone was used in the building of the manor, the delicate colours blending into the chartreuse green of the vineyard beyond. Soaring ceilings with exposed heavy oak trusses give a feeling of both a rustic intimacy and upscale modern expansiveness. Upon entering the main doors, you will observe the rooms effortlessly opening into each other, with floor-to-ceiling glass construction providing an unobstructed view into the production and tasting rooms. For an unexpected vantage, look down through the glass floor into the barrel cellar. A world unto itself, the barrel cellar and reception room boast old-world vaulted ceilings, beautiful organic furnishings, and uplighting that will lend any event a certain undefinable quality of elegance. As you proceed through the manor, you’ll notice no detail has been left to chance, from the coffered ceilings to beautifully designed herringbone tile work to the three fireplaces, designed and constructed by master masons and artisans. The manor house is barrier-free and the crown jewel in this expansive estate, the likes of which have never been seen on the shores of Lake Huron. WHERE FABULOUS LOCAL WEDDINGS BEGIN! • 107 109

Rural Nova Scotia is home to a century old barn that has been given a new life as Windgate Weddings. It has been carefully restored and updated to retain its original historic charm, making it a perfect backdrop for a rustic yet elegant wedding venue. Booking at Windgate Weddings includes three days of time on the property. There is a room with a bar on the main floor that includes a fridge, wine fridge, open icebox, and chalkboard signs. There is an area for the caterer to set up with tables which can be used as a lounge area afterward. The 60' x 45' barn loft features mini lights lining the uniquely curved ceiling, tables, mismatched chairs, and rustic touches throughout. The outside ceremony area includes a rustic arbor with views of the countryside and mountains. A covered porch connects you to the lower level which includes a unique chandelier. The barn is perfect for an indoor ceremony, lounge area, cocktail hour, and photos. Included are an assortment of decorations such as table numbers, unique card boxes, and vases, along with parking signs, smoking areas, a fire pit, and outdoor lighting. There are various motels, cabins, and historic B&B's nearby. Local transportation companies can provide easy access to your accommodations. You and your guests can enjoy local attractions and activities such as antique stores, shops, whale watching, golfing, local cuisine and the Bay of Fundy; home of the world's highest tides.
