8 - Sunday. April 21, 2019 Westfield YouthWorks The YouthWorks employment program is pleased to announce that applications will be available on April 8th for 2019, following our annual kickoff press conference on Friday April 5th, at The Reed Institute in Westfield from 1:00-2:00pm. YouthWorks is a state-funded youth employment program that helps teens and young adults get the skills and experience needed to find and keep jobs. Participants take part in paid short-term work placements during the summer and/or school year at public, private and nonprofit worksites. Participants also receive training in core soft skills so they can practice professional behaviors and learn how to relate to supervisors and coworkers at their worksites. And they learn how to take the next steps in their education and career pathways. All
YouthWorks programs use the Signal Success curriculum to help young people learn and practice the skills that matter at work, at school, and in life. Each applicant is chosen based on a lottery system. To qualify, you must fall into a risk factor. For a complete list of risk factors, please refer to the application. Applications can be picked up at Westfield Middle school guidance office, Westfield High School guidance office, and Westfield Technical Academy Main Office. Local businesses interested in learning more about the program can contact Kim Adamczyk at 413-519-5924 with any questions. “Downsizing In Place” Workshop Series at the Westfield Senior Center Did you know that there are 300,000 items in the average American home? Please call Woodland School to make your child’s appointment. Parents whose child is not enrolled in the preschool program are responsible to register your child for kindergarten at Woodland School. In order to be eligible for Kindergarten, a child must be five years old on or before September 1, 2019. There will be no exceptions to this policy. As required by Special Education Law, Chapter 766, screenings will be conducted in the areas of hearing, vision, speech/language, cognitive and motor skills. Parents having an eligible child should come to the Woodland School Office at 80 Powder Mill Road, Southwick, MA to pick up an enrollment packet between now and April 26th. Open enrollment hours are 9:15 A.M. to 2:45 P.M. A check off list for required items is included in the packet for your convenience. Once you’ve filled out your paperwork and have the necessary documents (proofs of residency, birth certificate, immunization record and physical and lead results) as noted on the check off list and informational letter from the school nurse, return ALL information to the Woodland School Office. An appointment will be made for you at that time to attend the screen-
ing (May 9th or May 10th) to complete the registration process. Please call Woodland School at 569-6598 with questions. Edwardian Afternoon Tear at the Huntington Public Library Rita Parisi of Waterfall Productions will be hostess for a 1908 Tea at the Huntington Public Library on May 11th, 2019 at 2 PM. At the turn of the last century, the afternoon tea provided ladies a chance to socialize and discuss fashion, family and social concerns. In the character of Mrs. Gordon, a middleclass lady from 1908, Rita will entertain her audience with stories about life at the turn of the 20th century and a recent trip to Boston. Rita Parisi has been entertaining audiences for over 20 years in the New England area. In 2002, she founded Waterfall Productions to create shows that highlight her passion for theatre, literature and costuming. She has had the pleasure of performing these shows all over New England, New Jersey, New York and Florida. Rita Parisi is a proud member of SAG/ AFTRA, the largest acting union in the country and some of her films have been debuted at the Boston International Film Festival and Cannes film Festival.
